Most horror films show your teenage years as this powerful time where all those possibilities enable you to fight against a threat from outside. I saw the TV glow does the exact opposite. It shows the emptiness, the endless existence of adolescents. Knowing that something is wrong, the need to change while being absolutely terrified of change. Growing up queer, autistic, depressed, trans and/or with strict parents, realising that you do not belong but a part of you tries to conform so fucking bad. This movie was able to show the horror of surviving instead of living.

Truly without sarcasm or snark or any of that, this is what we mean when people who love this character and her story are so irate/confused at the statement she never showed any remorse. Listen, I’m a sap. I love the big romantic speech and emotional breakdown over the wrongs of the past. But that isn’t who Caitlyn is, and it never has been. What we are seeing here is that her remorse and shame and self-hate are so strong that who does her armor finally crack in front of? Jinx. Just… really think about that a moment. It makes sense that she shows real vulnerability in front of Vi, they are in love. But think how much bad blood is between Caitlyn and Jinx, and this is when Caitlyn’s armor breaks even the smallest amount. The woman who killed her mother, who started her down this path, she is who Caitlyn admits her self-hate to. I can only speak for my own opinion of course, but I suspect “remorse” does not even begin to cover what Caitlyn is feeling.

In both instances this is about regret. She regretted the way Vi and her left off in the rain. She regrets how she’s handling Vi and her Sister now. This is her replaying the events that just happened in her head over and over again and getting worked up about it. This is her contemplating really hard about what to do next.
