Problematic because: "Jin Guangyao murdered several of his family members, including his father, wife, sister, brother, sister-in-law, son, and more. He was immediately ready to murder more. He did all this for his own gratification and to feel validated within himself. Oh yeah there's the incest too but I think he can be forgiven for that."
Propaganda: "He's an extremely complex character, if I were to use mythology comparisons, I would say that he resembled Icarus, but with Odysseus' journey and plotline. He's got a tragic backstory, and he's obviously been through a lot, which has really impacted the way he thinks, and I also feel like death was the only ending he'd accept. He had a good amount of chances that he was given, he had a good amount of times he could've changed his ways, but he didn't want to take it. I think he's the type of person to go "I've committed this many atrocities already, what's one more?" As well as "I've made it this far, if I give up now it'll all be for nothing." to the point that I think, had he been given a chance to undo it all, there is little he would've done similarly. To be fair, he might turn around and commit more evil, but that's not part of my argument. I think that Jin Guangyao is very well written, in the way that everything he does is for love, yet it's such a twisted thing that it can no longer be called love. At some point, he no longer had any motive of love, and based all of his intentions on power, which is when his plans started to go awry. Because everything he did no longer had a meaning other than protecting what he already had. Oh yeah I'm defending the incest thing here too btw: He didn't even know his wife was his sister bc, first of all, his dad raped his wife's mother and she was sleeping horrified by it that she covered the entire thing up, and her daughter luckily looked enough like her to be believable, so can you really even blame him?? He only realized once his wife was already pregnant, and while I do think they should have just aborted that damn thing when it was still a thing, I understand the scandal it would cause for him as well, and while I don't agree with it, killing the baby post birth and framing it as an assassination is what anyone with even somewhat gray morals would do."
Problematic because: "Short: Commited genocide! Long: Her father was an alchemist (magic/science), Riza got along great with his student Roy Mustang, and when Mustang decided to use the alchemy he learned in the army, and got disowned for she followed him into war. She feels 'bad' about it but stays in the army, because Mustang decided to stay in the army - Mustang also feels bad for his genociding, but his solution is to climb to the top so no one can order him to do genocide again! - on the way they will do more fucked up things and actually leaders are not that free if we don't change other aspects of the system but who worries about that."
Propaganda: "We need more problematic women! She is very codependend (with Mustang) in a way I prefere to read as deeply unromantic but equally fucked up but many people love to ship them, and its fucked up and that's great, she let that guy burn the mass murder weapon recipe of her back, that's love (the recipe was put there by her dad, she has massive daddy issues!). She is a mess that acts deeply in control and I love that specially in female characters who don't get to be like this often."
