I don’t think people understand that desi parents emotionally and mentally burden their kids with the opinions of others at such a young age that even if you don’t care what the “uncles and aunties” think, you care about the fact that your parents care and that is what makes you rethink your actions. Not the fear of what others might say to you or how they might look at you, but the fear that they’ll reserve that judgement for your parents and then your mother or father might be hurt because of something you did.
