Instead, it took away everything that made the book so very disturbing and captivating. What made the book so transgressive and progressive and ahead of its time. The very reason that it’s such an enormous deal, even 179 years after it was published. the CRUX of the story, the heart of it, thekey themes it explores, the entire main PLOTLINE

it could be categorised in the same box as twilight and fifty shades

a story about inter generational trauma, cycles of abuse, racism, classism, revenge, obsession, toxicity, codependency, domestic violence, societal norms, insanity

there was no evidence of her love of william, she frequently engaged in what I can only describe as leading victor on and then explicitly told him she was already taken (by a man who, again, i’m not sure she cared for even the slightest bit), became a cooing mother the SECOND she spotted the monster, had a great anti-war sentiment that… didn’t really lead to anything, was raised in a convent but that then didn’t inform more than a single, limp conversation, and then she died virtuously, beautifully, in the arms of the monster

I could not give two fucks if you pirate it or that you still engage with it for the sake of “nostalgia”. That shrivelled up parsnip of a woman has made the lives of trans people absolute hell, ESPECIALLY in the Uk. From what I've seen him actually say he seems similar with trans people in that he has said pro-Palestine stuff, but he seems way too into civility and he's worked people who have shared pro-Israel sentiments (eg Tracy Ann Oberman, and I haven't seen any falling out there). Even Alan Cumming in his new show has been cosy with Israel before, and hasn't seemed to renounce his support since 2023.
