throughout the musical, lucy harris exists to go through the worst pains imaginable and love jekyll (and also be abused by hyde because this woman deserves to be brutalised, i guess). her suffering and eventual murder is treated as jekyll at his worst, never centring her.

okay. yes, she does have dreams and aspirations for a better life, but we still don’t know much about her. what exactly are these dreams and aspirations? what are her hobbies? why does she live in london? does she have a family? if not, how did she navigate life up until then? how and why did she start doing her sex work? these could’ve been elements of her character, but it doesn’t matter to the musical. she mostly serves as hyde’s punching bag and jekyll’s 2nd cheerleader (only being bested by lisemma, of course). she was never developed beyond that.

the time period: the whole story starts on january 1st, 1872 and it ends on august 31th, 1872.

the other characters from strange case of dr jekyll & mr hyde: other than our genderbent versions of our jekyll and hyde, the characters from stevenson’s original novel stay the same. they won’t be the main focus of the au, but they’re there. utterson, lanyon, enfield, and poole are kinda in the background, but their roles remain the same. carew still gets killed, which isn’t great for him.

each character’s ages: charlotte is 31. esther is 26. felix is 35. irene is 31. lilavati is 25. jane is 23. wilfred is 38. utterson is 42. enfield is 37. lanyon is 38. the kids’ ages remain the same.

the newest edition to the main cast: althea utterson — aged 28. close friend of charlotte and irene. younger sister of gabriel j. utterson. fiancée of vincent milton (another original character i haven’t properly developed yet). she’s a social butterfly within both her inner friend group and her social circles. she’s a sensitive soul who writes poems about nature and love. within the context of the story, she ends up being a mother figure to charlotte and felix’s children once both parents … yeah i won’t say anything yet.

charlotte and felix’s relationship (no i haven’t come up with their ship name, so please give me your ideas): instead of felix being nearly a decade older than charlotte, he’s 4 years older than her. they got married when she was 20 and he was 24. they met a year prior, because he was her father’s client and the two fell in love.

charlotte’s sexuality: she’s bisexual. and so is esther.

irene sinclair’s role within the story: she is a detective, primarily because she realised that the police were deeply incompetent and she could help solve crime effectively, due to her wit and determination. she still struggles because of how society is built on misogynoir, though. that part of her story doesn’t change.
