I just know that Sally Jackson had a bloody aneurysm learning of Jasonās name. That woman made sure to name her son after a Greek hero that had a rare happy ending because names have power.

Honestly a little upset this alternate cut to the second meeting got stopped, it wouldāve been a little closer to the book. Two-bit and Pony would run into Cherry and her car earlier in the afternoon.
I just love her hair here, itās a very 60s appropriate updo, but at little flatā¦ you can tell sheās frazzled but still trying to look nice. Iām a little obsessed
Cherry absolutely has a dysfunctional home life.
Reasons why I think this:
- she straight refuses to be near Bob when heās drunk.
- she immediately sees through Johnnyās outside demeanor and clocks him as someone that isnāt dangerous without him saying much more than āhelloā, despite him being a greaser.
-She looks pony dead in the eyes and says āthings are rough all overā like sheās trying to say something without saying it.
-She canāt stand fights to the point of willingly getting in the car with a drunk driver to stop one from happening. (She was fed up with violence even BEFORE Bob was killed)
Honestly justice for my girl Cherry, sheās got so much going on behind the scenes.
Iāve always read Cherry as someone with a dysfunctional home life. The way she relates to boys is a huge red flag. She canāt stand fights or drinking but has a boyfriend who not only does those things - as most boys in their circles do - but is often the ringleader and the instigator. She says she admires Dally and could fall in love with him after their one and only interaction which consisted entirely of him harassing her. Sheās clearly drawn to troubled, violent boys who donāt take no for an answer.
And yes Iām totally with you on the ārough all overā comment! She says it with the conviction of someone who has very specific examples in mind.
Also while the musical gives her a backstory, what strikes me about the book/movie is how she doesnāt seem to share anything about her home life at all. Pony talks about Soda so much she says she feels like she already knows him just from one conversation, and she talks a lot about Socs in general, but she doesnāt match Ponyās family stories with any of her own.
