Man now that I've actually read Wicked I have. Thoughts. About the Infamous Club Scene, one of them being that it kind of Grinds My Gears the way a lot of response to it seems to fixate either on "GASP! There is a BDSM CLUB in this story???" or "There is a FURRY at the BDSM club in the book where furries are a Whole Plot-Important Established part of the world???", especially when the scene kind of gets... memeified based on those grounds.
Like, everyone has their own boundaries and squicks and I'm not going to knock any individual reader for personally being uncomfortable reading about those aspects of it; and on the other hand, heck, I can see it maybe also ironically Taking The Edge Off/being Easier to focus on them and not What Exactly Is Happening In That Club Involving That Furry In That Scene; but I dunno, while I do agree the scene is disturbing, I feel like the Main reason for that is the What Is Happening, i.e. "one of the parties involved is a nearly-passed-out-drunk barely-more-than-a-kid who was looking increasingly uncomfortable with being there and who came as part of a(n all pretty drunk) group who were given admission despite obviously not really knowing what they were doing, and we're not told if the other two are there under much less alarming circumstances; the people running the place and staging this whole thing as 'entertainment' obviously sure wouldn't care if they are*". I would not have even guessed it was an SA scene based on a lot of how it's referenced.
A lot of the time, it sort of... feels like a case in point of quite a lot of people picking the low-hanging fruit or just Joining The Pineapples On Pizza Memes and dismissing/sensationalizing the book being Weird and/or R-Rated at all without seeming interested in even beginning to unpack that and what it tries to do as a Weird and R-Rated book, whether they personally like it or not, even one layer deeper. But even when active fans of the book refer to it in certain ways, it's like. I Feel Like There Is An Elephant In The Room. *"Hell, exploitation of otherness and marginalization are part of the themes in the book, so maybe it's extra convenient for them and/or maybe it's not an accident that the three characters involved here are a queer kid in a society implied to be pretty cisheteronormative (even if, as in real life, it doesn't prevent anyone from just. Being queer), a woman in a society that's clearly portrayed as sexist, and a member of a group experiencing especially active and violent attacks against their personhood".
I have not seen a Starkid play, and knowledge of the fact that Twisted includes That One Gag That It Includes keeps me from having any interest in changing that.

The rule could have heavy impacts towards trans people across society.
Last week, the Trump administration quietly released a sweeping new federal rule that would use funding threats to force institutions across the country to reject transgender people. The 400-page proposed regulation would codify the administration's anti-trans executive orders into binding federal policy, imposing a blanket prohibition on federal funds going toward "gender ideology"
The proposed rule, formally titled "Regulation for Federal Financial Assistance," rewrites the government-wide framework governing all federal grants across every agency. Among its most consequential provisions, it requires that before a federal grant recipient can receive money, the award must pass a "pre-issuance review" conducted by a political appointee—not a career expert or peer reviewer—to ensure it is "consistent with applicable law, Federal agency priorities, and the national interest." The regulation explicitly instructs these appointees to screen for "denial by the recipient of the sex binary in humans or the notion that sex is a chosen or mutable characteristic." [...] An institution that acknowledges transgender people exist—through its policies, its training, its healthcare, its bathroom access, its HR procedures, its name-change processes—could be deemed to "deny the sex binary" or to “support the notion that sex is mutable” and have its federal funding blocked.
Importantly, the gender ideology prohibition has no age limitation—hospitals could be targeted not just for providing care to minors but for providing gender-affirming care to adults, because prescribing hormone therapy to a transgender patient of any age could be deemed promoting the belief that "sex is a chosen or mutable characteristic."

I think I’m literally never gonna be sick of this masterpiece. I think watching it on a loop for eight hours could fix me. Dancing’s what clears my soul. Dancing’s what makes me whole.
I just love that this very video is an accumulation of thousands of years worth of art made by people who have never met each other. The concept of this video was so completely unfathomable to every single artist who made the sculptures and yet they’ve all put something toward the creation of it.
