I love you Chiitan
sorry america but you’ve been really mean. and I don’t want to go to your birthday party in two days
so this post has blown up; turns out a lot of people feel the same way I do. If you're feeling conflicted or upset over 4th of July, I've compiled a list of educational resources and charities, both regarding US and international issues, which you can look into if you'd like. Issues here include humanitarian aid to Gaza, Ukraine, and the Caribbean, as well as reproductive, LGBT, BIPOC, and disability rights in the US.
woke up and saw people were reblogging this again. anyway, yeah. america is still being really mean and I do not want to go to its birthday party today
if you would like to spite the really mean people even more today, consider donating to raices con voz. they're a student-led organization in los angeles, who deliver food and essential supplies to immigrant families who can't leave their homes due to the ICE raids. More information about them here
EDIT: Had to fix the link! please reblog this version instead
another year of not wanting to go to america's birthday party in two days. because it's really mean. so we should help the people that america is being really mean to
in keeping with tradition, here is a link to unicef's fund for emergency health supplies and services for survivors of the venezuela earthquakes.
here is another link for manos in action, an organization that delivers supplies, such as food and childcare items, to latin american immigrants in central florida. I've participated in one of their local food drives; they're great. if you're not local to central florida, you can always donate money.
the other links are still available too, so feel free to check those out!
I'm seeing extra visibility for Disability Pride Month this year and being in one of those places where I'm thinking to myself "I don't really know if I can personally celebrate for me, because, like, I'm autistic, but I've never personally contextualized it as a disability in my case, just What I'm Like. Then again, a lot of my friends and mutuals who do more consistently talk about and share posts about being neurodivergent or having physical disabilities do kind of bring up the whole thing where disability has in common with queerness the fact that none of our experiences would have to be ones where we feel like we're held back for being different if it wasn't for the fact that society was structured to benefit/be biased toward and against certain ways of being".

No joke you guys NEED to get more comfortable blocking people. No more insulting people in public over different blorbo opinions no more making 2k long posts on how whatever ship you don't like shouldn't exist we've grown past that shit. Consistent posts about shit that make you uncomfortable? Block. Rancid blorbo opinions? Block. Is mildly annoying in your replies? Block. Pisses you off for reasons so petty you could never admit it publicly? Block. YOUR mental health will improve from not being upset 24/7, THEIR mental health will not be at risk of you lashing out because you happened to catch their posts on a bad day, and EVERYONE ELSE will benefit from not seeing the most embarrassing arguments known to man on their dash. "Oooh but they didn't deserve it-" dude you're presumably running a personal blog as a hobby not a public service. Who fucking cares.
Whoo Boy Jax TADC's "You weren't supposed to care. You weren't supposed to miss me. You weren't supposed to love me" from the perspective of her being a closeted trans character is too fucking real --
Excuse me I am still Fucking Thinking about things like her whole initially-edgelord-ass speech to Pomni about how "we're all just cartoon characters. :) Over time, we all just fall into our archetypes. None of this is real. None of us are actually real" when In My Experience In Retrospect Actually Yeah, That's What Being In The Closet And Not Thinking You "Get" To Come Out Feels Like. You're just "a character" you didn't audition to play but you got cast as anyway. You don't know what it's like to feel "real". You craft a version of yourself based on what you figure is expected of you - and hell, even when you do get to come out, you might be so used to that whole Modeling Curated Expectations Of You thing that even your initial "out" self might just be A Character. She immediately backpedals to "lol oh did I say that...? I made that up/it was a joke" when confronted with "wait, but you were honest with me?" and it's easy to pretend something you're expressing about yourself is a lie or A Story when you're doing that whole "I'm just Playing A Character" thing. TL;DR I like Jax a lot more as a character with the new revelations and confirmations than I did previously. I still Call Her Out for her abuse of Gangle and horrible mistreatment of Ribbit and re: the former That One Mind Sequence Had Me Outright Going "Yikes" But Yeah Her Character Does Commentate On Certain Stuff About Being Trans --

I'm so happy for Gregory Maguire over the fact that his general response to fans coming into The Wicked Years from the musical seems to be really chill/"hey, it's still appreciation of something that came from a work I made!" and/or "hey, the popularity of the musical version means I'm all set economically, especially if I write a couple of extra bonus prequel books for new readers", because Wow if I were him, I would be kind of Perpetually Annoyed over people going "what the hell I read this book that its author intended to be a reflection on what evil even means and the mundanity and layers of human cruelty and how the cruelty of the world can drive a person who just wants to feel like their life has had some positive impact to destructive cynicism inspired by several real-world acts and events of cruelty at a politically-turbulent time and I hate how mean and hypocritical and morally gray the characters are??? I'm so glad the Disneyfied adaptation improved this story" --
"Let's read Gregory Maguire's Wicked, a story about a marginalized freedom fighter who became the victim of a smear campaign against her, just like in the musical! …Wow, this story does not communicate that journey very well. 🤨"
The Actual Story: /about a marginalized woman who tried again and again to have a meaningful impact in the world for the sake of other marginalized people only to get stonewalled or to experience horrible luck at every turn to the point where she grew terribly cynical and selfish in her desperation to get even just one fucking win
I mid-key want to worldbuild a whole fantasy setting just so I can figure out what its food history and cuisines are like.
