John 20:24-29. [24] βNow Thomas (also known as Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. [25] So the other disciples told him, βWe have seen the Lord!β But he said to them, βUnless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.β [26] A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, βPeace be with you!β [27] Then he said to Thomas, βPut your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.β [28] Thomas said to him, βMy Lord and my God!β [29] Then Jesus told him, βBecause you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.β (NIV)
βJesus spoke these words to Thomas after His resurrection. Thomas wanted proof. He wanted to see the wounds, touch the scars, and remove every doubt before he believed. But Jesus declared a blessing over everyone who would come after him: βBlessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.β (John 20:29)
That includes us. We've never stood beside the Sea of Galilee. We've never watched Jesus calm a storm, raise the dead, or walk out of the tomb. Yet through the testimony of Scripture, the witness of the apostles, and the work of the Holy Spirit, we've come to know Him.
Biblical faith then isn't blind faith. It's trust in a Savior who's revealed Himself through history, fulfilled prophecy, transformed lives, and conquered death.
While the world says, βSeeing is believing.β Jesus says, βBelieving is blessed.β If you're walking through a season where you can't see what God is doing, take heart. Faith doesn't mean having all the answers, but trusting the One who does.
One day faith will become sight. Until then, blessed are those who believe.β
