Today is rainy and stormy. I spent all our walks running away from the rain.

I’m not entirely sure why, but this kind of weather always puts me in a nostalgic mood. It makes me want to look through old videos, photos, and all kinds of little keepsakes, of which — as a proper goblin — I have quite a lot.

I dug up this video: a true blast from the past — tiny Gloria and young Bemol. It feels like it was yesterday. Little Bemol passed away last year, and Gloria is now an older lady.

A few days ago, we released our last winter guest — little Stefan. He was the boldest huffer of the whole trio. Even in the video, you can see that very little is able to throw him off balance.

The release took place under Jawa’s supervision. She carefully oversaw the whole process, especially whether the right amount of kibble had been put out 😆 We had to catch her and take her back home right after, otherwise there would have been no “soft release” at all — Jawa would have eaten everything 😅

We’re happy to report that Pirat and Ciapka are doing well and growing like crazy 🙂 We know they are “just” mice — often called pests and mercilessly exterminated in all sorts of ways — but to us, they are a tiny miracle. Proof that every living being has the will to survive and deserves a chance ❤

It is hard to say goodbye after eight months of living together, but this is how it should be — their true home is in nature.

They are healthy, each weighing over 900 grams. They were treated for fleas and parasites, and we also carried out a “soft release.” For the next few weeks, we will continue to provide food at the release site to give them the best chance to adapt to life in the wild.

New residents.

A mouse mother made her nest under some branches that had been prepared for burning. When Maciek realized there were two tiny babies under the wood, he put the branches back in place.

Their mum wasn’t there, and she didn’t return to her babies. We waited for several hours. The little mice started getting cold, so we had to step in.

And here they are: Pirat and Ciapka. Their names may be temporary, as we don’t know their sex yet.

At 2 a.m., we drove to the emergency vet clinic to get kitten milk, to give these tiny creatures any chance of survival.

We don’t know how this story will continue. Hand-rearing babies this small is very difficult. Waking up every few hours through the night is difficult too.
