remember when we didn't know there could be more than 1 dark world. one day there will be other very plainly obvious aspects of deltarune's worldbuilding we feel silly for not knowing. there's some hope and delight to this, we feel.
like. it seems so obvious now that darkners are personified objects. and we kind of all got that by chapter 2. but with chapter 3 spelling it out very plainly, it's so...obvious. why queen is Like that with Noelle. why King is Like that towards lightners on the whole. why so many of the darkners are so aware of the lightners in general. there's gonna be a time where things we are confused and theorize about will be spelled out as clear as day. and that's just neat to think about.
if you are italian american it is your personal job to be the world's loudest and most passionate hater of columbus. fuck that nasty dead bitch and fuck everybody who insists on making white supremacy the foundation of our culture. burn an effigy of columbus on OSDIA's lawn. learn about how there used to be thriving anarchist & socialist movements in the italian american community that was often explicitly critical of white supremacy (publishing essays like "the crimes of the white race") and the united states government targeted it during the first red scare, arrested and deported people and censored our leftist newspapers and made it dangerous to be an italian leftist in america, and wealthy members of the community whose eagerness to align with white supremacy made them genuine literal fascists supported columbus day because they loved mussolini and fascism and whatever made white racist anglo society approve of them the most. that's why this dumb fucking holiday exists. do all that and then find your local indigenous nation and give them however much money you can spare. fuck! that! nasty! dead! bitch!
italoamericani contra colombo!!!!!!!!
also for anyone interested here are some articles on this subject i think more people should check out:
Are Italian Americans the White’s Clowns? Not Only Columbus Has Failed Us by Lauren LoGiudice
The Fascist Roots of Columbus Day by Patrick Breen
Mediterranean We Are by Victoria "V.K.Y" Kabeya (a mixed Afro-Sicilian woman's analysis of Mediterranean identity and racism)
Who’s Allowed in the “Melting Pot?”: The Impact of Whiteness on the Assimilation of Italian Identities by Frances Bartolutti (They/She)
The Rise of Italo-Trumpism by Jerry Krase
Massive Support for Trump and the End of Italian American Identity by Lauren LoGiudice
Why Italian Americans Should Support Black Lives Matter by Ross Caputi (No one should need a personal reason to support BLM, but this article is written to explain to much more conservative italian americans why our history and our current whiteness is inextricably linked with anti-blackness and why we should be personally invested on an ethnic level in solidarity with black people resisting racism. i think it does a pretty decent job breaking down how "the southern question"/antimeridionalismo in italy played a role in anti-italian racism in the USA as well)
But Indigenous Peoples Are Still Here
i repeat: if you are italian american (specifically those of us who are white) it is your responsibility to be the loudest and most passionate hater of columbus. frankly i don't even care if YOU personally care about identifying as italian i feel like we have a responsibility to reclaim ethnic pride for the sake of depriving white supremacy of the tool. i don't want them to have any breathing room. i don't want imperialists to get to use my heritage to justify their allegiance to evil !! i despise every single italian american who gives credence to the idea that hating columbus is somehow an attack on us. when the REAL attack is how our culture has been so deeply invested by white supremacy and american imperialism. and i don't think the solution is just fading into an ambiguous guilty whiteness. america hated us as we were and would not accept us if we did not remake ourselves in its image. i want to pry my ancestor's name out of this creature's mouth. i need every italian american to be so viscerally offended by the idea that columbus represents us that they can't pretend to be doing this shit for any reason other than because they hate indigenous people and want to continue the genocide columbus began.
assimilation isn't just about getting rid of foreign identities and cultures, it's about ADDING to whiteness. every time a group of people get suckered into identifying with whiteness, white supremacy gets another group of people it can emotionally manipulate into sustaining it. it's a leech and it's not just taking our blood, it's using it to grow stronger. if you are not of a racialized identity, you have the status of a white person in society. but you do not need your sense of self to be tied to the construct of whiteness. idk what that means for everyone but people in my family cared about making sure i know in some small way that i was italian and not just white american and that matters to me so that's what i am working on.
for anyone too young to know this: watching The Truman Show is a vastly different experience now, compared to how it was before youtube and social media influencers became normal
before it was like, "what a horrifying thing to do to a human being! to take away their autonomy and privacy, all for the sake of profits! to create fake scenarios for them to react to, just to retain viewership! to ruin their happiness just so some corporate entity could harvest money from their very humanity! how could anyone do something so evil?"
and now it's like, "ah, yeah. this is still deeply fucked up, but it's pretty much what every influencer has been doing to their kids for a decade now. probably bad that we've normalized this experience"
agshjfsj you know what? sure. I can do this from an in-universe perspective too
for anyone too young to know this: watching The Truman Show is a vastly different experience now, compared to when it was on air.
firstly, you'd better hope it stays up on amazon prime, because it aired 24/7 for multiple decades, so the size of it is astronomical. there's a reason the other streaming services dropped it - the server costs alone are ridiculous. but even on prime there are ad breaks in it that it never used to have, because back then all the advertising was product placement, but modern advertisers want mid-roll ads, and they really break up some of the most emotional moments imo.
(and don't get me started on the music licensing btw - all of the changes are bad, but the song swap in episode 9775 killed me dead. awful)
not to mention that the vhs, laserdisc, dvd, and blu-ray releases have been out of print for years. and if you want to try torrenting it, to get it in even barely decent quality you're gonna need at least 300TB of free space, and that's not including the deleted scenes and director's commentary tracks, which are a whole other thing.
secondly, everyone has this parasocial thing where they feel like they grew up with Truman, because their mom kept it on in the house when they were a kid or w/e, and we need to just. get over it. I mean, he's just a guy. you're not special for liking him; everyone likes him.
like, some of you guys are worse about this than you were with Steve from Blue's Clues, and that's saying something. you've gotta move on.
and people need to be nicer to the actors who played his friends and family, too. like I know the ones who were adults at the start have a lot to answer for, but the kids were pushed into this by the industry just like he was! and they don't deserve to be cancelled on twitter just because their dad got them into acting as a 3yo or w/e. like. come on.
thirdly, because of the way the show ended, we need to actually address the fact that we don't know what happened to him? like, Truman wasn't some actor who quit, he was lied to about his whole life, and now nobody knows where he is! and after the SAG-AFTRA strike when the crew and extras were fighting to get paid for the work they did on that show, did fucking anybody think about Truman? if anyone's owed residuals, it's that guy.
I just feel like nobody's taking it seriously that he's not a celebrity? he's a kid who got shoved into a machine, and after what happened to him, it'd be completely fine if he never showed his face in public again.
(though personally, I want him to just so he can sue the shit out of everyone involved in his upbringing. but that's just me.)
anyway on a fandom level, if you want to help, the Truman Archival Project is looking for some eps that were lost due to corruption, and some scenes that got cut later. there's a list on the wiki, but there are a lot of gaps and old tape formats that need converting, so if you can help, go do that!
and Truman, if you're out there - I hope you're living a good life. whatever comfort and entertainment you bring to people really means nothing compared to the value of you getting to live a normal life. I hope you're having a good time, wherever you are.
when it comes down to it, what was done to you was awful. nobody deserves to have their most private moments shown to millions of people without their consent.
it's probably bad that we've normalized this experience.
OP I’m digging the little jab you made with how in-universe you wax poetic about respecting Truman’s dignity as a human being but then in the same breath turning around and insisting the public must keep as much of his life available to voyeuristic eyes for as long as possible, instead of maintaining his privacy as best as one can by letting his moments be left irretrievable. Just the sheer dissonance and hypocrisy 10/10.

y’all havin a good september?
do not underestimate how many times i can listen to a song in a row
going to start researching sheep breeds that are like endangered or need conservation and then seek out their wool to use, preferably buying directly from the herders, so i can support them
i found a farm that has Navajo-Churro sheep and sells their wool as roving and yarn directly to the public, along with several other uncommon breeds :) website here
holy shit theres a lot of small farms out there with heritage breed sheep n other animals selling their fiber!!
re: your tags, totally fine to reblog!! there's a whole database of farms im looking at now on the Livestock Conservancy website!! here's the link, all you have to do is select "yarn" or "fiber" from this drop down menu
and it'll give you contact info and websites to A BUNCH of small farms selling their heritage breed fiber directly!! you can also look up by animal breed if you want a specific kind of fiber like, say Navajo-Churro
it's AWESOME!! many of these farms seem to be certified by the Conservancy and the Conservancy itself seems to be like a good nonprofit
Shave 'em to save 'em!
Impressed by new roommate today by showing them the gromit mug, the gromit mug mug, and then the gromit mug mug mug
