Even more importantly, and I am being genuine about this, Eugene saw Rapunzel. He saw her. He saw her.

He didn't see the magical means to remain young and healthy forever. He didn't see a missing baby. He didn't see a boss trying to be his friend or a reason he was abandoned. He didn't see someone who he thought was perfect, only to feel betrayed when the illusion he built himself was shattered. He didn't even see a mark. He saw a girl with a freaky amount of hair (for some reason) and an unquenchable thirst for life, and knowledge, and experience. He saw a kind, caring soul who would give anyone a chance (or two or three). He saw someone who was fiercely brave, not because she lacked fear but because she did things despite her fear. He saw someone who was gently, steadfastly loyal. He saw Rapunzel, for all her positive qualities and all her flaws, and no one had ever done that before.

He didn't just save her from Gothel. He saved her from herself, too. He saved her from believing the things Gothel had told Rapunzel she was. And he didn't do it by telling her the contrary, but by encouraging her to discover it in herself. She was stronger when she returned to the tower in no small part because of him. He gave her someone in her corner, who believed in her light and her strength, and she rose to meet that belief.

Yes, he saved her life by climbing that tower, but he freed her in so many more ways than just literally giving his life for hers. (Not that his sacrifice was, by any means, a minor act.) And he did all of this in less than 48 hours, and continued to be that kind of support for her as they went back to the palace to reveal her status, and continued on with their lives.

Lilith: “I burned my tongue once drinking tea.”

Darius: “I dropped a hair dryer on my leg once and it burned.”

Eda: “I have a piece of graphite in my leg for accidentally stabbing myself with a pencil in the first grade.”

Perry: “I was taking a cup of noodles out of the microwave and spilled it in my hand, and I got a really bad burn.”
