Anthony Bourdain was like a modern, urban Mr. Rogers for all the jaded adults (everyone, right?) out there. Instead of inviting us into his neighborhood, he challenged us to walk into other people’s neighborhoods with acceptance and open hearts. Instead of asking us to treat everyone as a neighbor, he boldly suggested that we treat everyone as our best friend. Sweaters gave way to culinary delights, and, like Fred Rogers, Bourdain taught us that it’s the simple things in life that matter. Above all, it’s how we treat each other: truly kindness and love for one another are the way humanity will ever rise above its own self-inflicted darkness.
