Uhhh, they don’t help trans women. They have a history of driving us to suicide and making our problems worse.

Where is your proof? Mental institutions are literally created to help those with mental illness. How can you try to convince me they don’t help an entire group of people? 🙄

I am also studying Psychology and I’d like to point out that institutions were actually put in place to store “crazy” people so they’d be out of sight, out of mind. This started in the 1700s and continued until the early 1900s, granted, it was way worse then with horrific treatment of patients. But it hasn’t really changed now. I’ve had two people tell me the scariest stories of what happened when they were institutionalized. These places were built to keep people out of society and keep them out of the way, they weren’t originally intended to help. And they still don’t. Besides, suicidal people aren’t going to feel less suicidal when you put them in an environment where they feel more of a problem. You put a suicidal person into a hospital where the doctors say you aren’t normal and need help, and they’re going to get worse. The best way to help is to probably listen to these people and ask why they feel this way so you can solve the problem, not lock them in a toxic environment
