It had been a week of nothing but the steady beep of the machines. They were hoping to be able to be able to take him off of the oxygen today, but then his heart had slowed, and now they didnāt dare.Ā
Burt had just left, headed to the loft to shower and sleep for a few hours before coming back to sit with Kurt some more. Sebastian hadnāt left yet. There was a tiny shower in the attached tiny bathroom, and Burt had brought him clothes, a nurse making sure he was being fed. Left to himself, heād just as well have climbed into the hospital bed with Kurt, and just stayed there forever.Ā
As it was, he hadnāt slept more than a few minutes at a time in the week since the accident. The cab driver that had mowed him down had been ambivalent, right up until theyād threatened him with deportation, and now Sebastian just didnāt care anymore. Heād left the situation with Santana, his partner at the law firm, and had called in his sick leave.Ā
He made sure to ask Rachel to pack up Kurtās skin care products from his vanity at home, and sheād brought them in, and left him with a few written instructions, so that heād know what order they went in as he painstakingly went through Kurtās regimen twice a day.Ā
He held tight to Kurtās hand, murmuring to him almost constantly, his voice growing hoarse. Now he alternated between singing to him softly, and reading article after article in the italian vogue magazine that Isabelle had brought the second day.Ā
He didnāt know how long heād been asleep, his head pressed to Kurtās hip, when he was awoken by fingers running through his hair. He turned his head, expecting to find Rachel, or Mercedes, or even Santana there, but the fingers didnāt stop, and there was nobody behind him, so he turned back around, and nearly stopped breathing when he saw Kurt watching him, a soft smile behind the oxygen mask. āKurt?ā He sobbed it out,Ā
Kurt was confused, but smiled tiredly, squeezing softly at the hand Sebastian had tangled with his own. āHi.ā He didnāt know if he made any noise, but he could see that Sebastian could read it on his lips.Ā
Sebastian was so overcome, he could barely think to reach for the call button before leaning down to press his lips to the side of Kurtās face, letting the tears flow unchecked. āThank you. Thank you for waking up. Thank you.āĀ
