Jason looked over from the chair at the Batcomputer. âDickie isnât here right now. Neither is Bruce. If youâre looking for either of them. Think Dickie went back to BlĂźdhaven and Bruce went back out on patrol. I am finishing a case report. You can wait here if you want. I can get Alfred to bring tea or something Roy.â The boy kept typing a way at his case report. (From @jaybinlad )
Roy smiled just a bit, because the kid was, if nothing else, dedicated. âYou know youâre allowed to take a break, right? Do something fun instead?â He said it like he was teasing, but he meant it too. He worried about B driving another Robin to their breaking point.
Jason returned the grin as he dropped down beside Roy. âYeah. You did good there.â He pointed at the guns. âIâll go sabotage those check out the drugs.â Jason was showing a lot of trust in Roy, something not many did around drugs.
He paused in surprise, then gratitude. As an addict people usually treated him like a rejected threat, someone to keep an eye on. Jason was showing faith in him that heâd do the right thing and not pocket anything.
It meant a lot, honestly.
âAre we wanting to keep the drugs intact for law enforcement, or should I use an explosive arrow to be rid of them?â
Jason paused to think about it as he continued to sabotage the military grade weaponry that was being brought into Gotham. He and Bruce and some not so positive run ins with the police lately, despite what Gordon was trying to do for the city.
âGet a sample for us to take back to the Batcave. Then destroy the rest. The PD has a lot of guys on payrolls. And the last few times we turned drugs over to them, Black Maskâs men had them circulating within days.â Jason recalled.
He finished sabotaging the guns, and found the shipment manifest, grabbing that as additional evidence.
âI have the shipping manifest here, seems they got everything. Do we need anything else before we go?â
The damn place was too polished. Whoever designed it had no sense of privacy. Where were the separate rooms? Open plan always did his head in. He dropped into one of the leather armchairs, set his Coke on the coaster, and fished a battered pack of purple Silk Cut out of his bomber jacket pocket.
âRight. Youâve dragged us halfway across the world for a chat, so what do you lot actually want? You donât normally ring people up for tea and a gossip about your nan, so summatâs up, and whatever it is, you need me for it.â
He flicked at the lighter, swore when it wouldnât catch, then got a spark at last and took a drag.
âSo whatâs that bad youâve had to drag me over from Cottonopolis for it, then? What canât you lot sort yourselves?â
He checked his phone again. Still nothing from Tim, which was odd. They werenât joined at the hip over messages, but Tim usually got back to him. Saburo set the phone down and gave the lot of them another look.
Young Justice.
Because giving teenagers superhero responsibilities was obviously a cracking idea, thought up by the same spandex-wearing pricks who made the first lot. Theyâd built themselves a little club for their kids, their sidekicks, and whoever else kept hanging round the edges.
Jason slowly followed the others in. Cassie, Connor, Bart, Greta, Cissi, and Slobo. He looked up quietly as the others all stood around, giving him the cold shoulder. The redhead hung his head as he knew this was just going to be another time he was expected to stay quiet and just let the older heroes talk.
Cassie spoke first, a sad smile at Saburo. âHey Saburo. Sorry itâs been so long, the team has kind of been in turmoil in recent months. A lot has happened with us. As I am sure it has with you.â She began.
Connor adjusted his sun glasses. âShe means we got the short end of the stick. Tim bit the dust and now we are baby sitters to this brat wonder when Batman has had enough of dealing with his incompetence.â
âYeah. He is so slow at learning this detective thing. And Bruce barely waited before giving some new kid Timâs role.â Bart hissed.
Slobo just nodded, his head in agreement. Still not really having much to say about this. Just knowing his friends didnât like this kid was enough for him.
âWe want you to try and bring Tim back from the dead.â Greta spoke. Her eyes not on Jason who still remained silent the entire time. âHe is Robin, not this imposter. He is our friend, not this invader. He is our fearless leader, this is some kid playing dress up.â
@thenihilistofthevoid
âTitus is a good dog. Heâs my best friend at the manor when Damian comes to visit. I like having a dog around. Miss my childhood one Sparky.â Jason spoke as he took his next rock and felt that competitive spirit flair up in him. This was going to be good.
âYou wanted a contest? All you had to do was ask magic man.â Jason teased as he did some measure ups. Instead of throwing it with anger, he did a quick wind up skip and watched how the rock bounced. âYouâre movie magic man.â
He did digest what Saburo meant. âSo cults have a long history of you fighting them. I think that makes it better honestly, you are such a good friend to have when it gets scary from what Damian said.â
âRight. Bruce says to be careful with giving trust out. He gets so paranoid about things. But then again, after what happened to Tim I guess he has every right to be.â He sighed. âSo I do need to be more careful.â
His face grimed as Saburo mentioned that. âYou are right. Maybe I should find other young heroes and form my own thing. Far away from Timâs Young Justice League and no not reforming Damianâs Black Ops as they called themselves. You seemed to be adjacent to them and Young Justice League.â Jason sighed then.
âBruce is one to talk. How often is he arguing with the rest of the league?â Jason asked bitterly as he skipped another stone, using a slightly different technique.
âBut you are right. Bruce does like things in neat boxes. Sometimes I wish his personal box was bigger.â Jason sighed and shook his head as their conversation continued.
âAnd yeah. They canât move past Tim. Always comparing me to him, always wanting to wake up from a nightmare. But that isnât how life works.â
He clenched his hand around his momâs cross. âBecause I know better than anyone that someone lost wonât come back. And maybe that is for the best.â He missed his mom, and would move to see her again. Just to tell her that he was doing okay. But that wouldnât happen.
âI guess you miss your parents too, so you know all to well. In ways many of them were not ready for.â He sighed as he skipped another stone.
âDid you make friends with Jon too? He visits sometimes.â
Jason peaked his head around Barbraâs shoulder. âAnd youâre sure that Condiment King is the one planning this heist? Seems a bit too ambitious for him.â (From @jaybinlad )
I lean back from my laptop with a quiet sigh, eyes still lingering on the surveillance footage paused on the screen before I push myself up and head into the kitchen. The apartment is dim except for the glow from my desk lamp and the city lights bleeding through the rain-streaked windows of my Gotham Heights place.
âIâm telling you, the timingâs too clean.â
I say, opening the fridge while Jason keeps questioning the case from somewhere behind me.
âThree break-ins in one week, all near the same underground access routes? Thatâs coordinated.â
I grab a container of mixed greens and set it on the counter.
âAnd Condiment King doesnât suddenly become a criminal mastermind overnight.â
Iâm wearing black joggers and a worn gray tank top with an oversized flannel hanging open over it, my glasses perched low on my nose while my hairâs twisted into a messy knot thatâs barely holding together anymore.
I start pulling ingredients from the fridge one by one: crisp romaine, cucumber slices, cherry tomatoes, avocado, grilled chicken, feta cheese, and a lemon vinaigrette I made yesterday. Fresh. Actual food. The kind that doesnât come wrapped in greasy paper or require a tetanus shot afterward.
I glance back toward Jason with a small smirk.
âIâm making salad, which I know violates at least six of your personal beliefs.â
I grab a cutting board and shake my head.
âSo are you eating this, or am I ordering you something covered in melted cheese to protect your reputation?â
âThey have. Disgusting steamed vegetables and raw vegetables with no taste.â He made a face before laughing a little bit.
âIn all seriousness you should let me cook something next time. Alfred taught me so much.â He had ideas, and he was sure that Barbra would love some of them. Especially the sautĂŠed vegetables that Alfredo worked so hard to teach Jason to make.
âI like non-life span shortening food too. I just prefer to have food with taste. Itâs why I really like curry.â He told her.
The rain, still nistolgia inducing. The boyâs mind kept wandering back to nights with his parents finally not arguing for once, the vague shape of Sparky, the warmth of a blanket and the rare treat of hot coco and marshmallows.
Oh well, no room for that sentimentality right now.
They had to get to the bottom of these robberies. That was for sure. They were a massive threat to Gotham that were slipping through the cracks while Bruce obsessed over Joker and whatever threat the League had detected that had him away from Gotham for the night.
Râas and Deathstroke were the best leads they had. Unfortunately, that meant some big danger to both of them. The League of Assassins always added an unexpected element, and Deathstrokeâs obsession with finally killing a superhero was sort of scary.
But Râas was most likely, especially with what was going on that he and Bruce had originally broken up.
âI stopped questioning our lives maybe two weeks in. If it isnât him itâs some dude made of clay, a sociopath that larps as a clown, some guy in a ridiculous costume that likes riddles too much, a guy who is in a Freeze suit, a guy who dresses as a Scare Crow that made a fear toxin, even occasionally an undead zombie.â Jason shrugged. âBut yeah, Râas puts all of them but Joker to shame.â
Jason could not blame Barbra for being tired.
âAnd he is always trying to set some scheme up in the background that he knows Bruce wonât approve of and will try to stop.â Jason shuttered some. These plans usually made some horrific explosions.
And yeah, it was definitely the over dramatic games the demonâs head as he called himself liked to play.
âIt is. And whatever he is setting up, he is being careful. No evidence of planting bombs. So it involves what Bruce and I put in the evidence lock up.â Jason deduced.
âIâm getting better at this detective thing.â Jason beamed for a few moments in pride before getting serious again.
The lighting has Jason tense up. His eyes closed to try and remind himself that the storm outside was picking up. Yeah, he suddenly was not so disappointed about no patrol.
âWhatever the plan is, it terrifies the hell out of me. The fact they are so good at covering their steps.â He sighed as he ran a hand through his hair. Oh dear.
âYeah, find if out there.â He sighed and shook his head. âAnd that means some form of finding a way to investigate these sights. We could hit the streets. We just need to get the right things in our suits to make sure we donât get so badly soaked we get sick.â
He stretched some.
âI mean I am sure that Ace would be glad, but I like going to school and being able to do other things now.â
Jason looked over from the chair at the Batcomputer. âDickie isnât here right now. Neither is Bruce. If youâre looking for either of them. Jason blinked as he looked at the top of the fridge, the man on top of it, and the fact that Ace was growling and barking in front of the fridge as if this familiar man was some strange intruder.
âWell, you look like Dick, but given you are on top of the fridge, Ace is barking his head off at you, and you seem shocked to see a Cane Corso, you definitely arenât the Dick Grayson I know.â The boy walked over and got a firm grip on Aceâs collar.
âSit.â He commanded the dog before he made it sit down and he looked back up at the man.
âNow come on down here. We can figure out just what is going on. And if you try anything, I let go of Ace hereâs harness.â (From @jaybinlad in his Young Justice verse).
"Well, either I'm from another universe, or last night was wilder than I thought." Dick stayed on top of the fridge, watching Ace and Jason like a hawk.
"See, y'know, I would come down, but it's just so cosy up here. Might even ask Alfred if he fancies bringing my duvet up here - I mean I've got immediate access to the fridge and a bunch of spiders to talk to when I get lonely, what more can a guy want from a hidey hole?"
âWe canât figure anything out until you get down here. And if you are a different universeâs Dick Grayson, which you likely are, we have nothing that you would want.â He stated bluntly.
âThat, and Dick wonât part with his duvet. At all.â He still had a firm grip on Aceâs collar as the dog emitted quiet growls.
âEnough Ace. I think he knows that you are on guard.â Jason rolled his eyes some. âSorry about Ace, he is super protective.â
Perhaps I make a series of bat kids and big cats

Jason had his own semi amused face as he hung out just over Roy. He signed for Roy to just watch this.
Then, the boy through down a sonic birdarang to an electricity panel. Clearly he was planning something.
The mechanical engineer in him was curious, but he kept quiet and just watched. The Bats always seemed to have something up their colorful sleeves heâd noticed a long time ago.
From there, Jason got a second, more usual birdarang out. He tossed it on down hitting the panel, electrifying several of them at once before they fell unconcious. A sinister grin had formed on Jasonâs face.
âClever,â Roy commented quietly to himself. This kid definitely had the brains and strategy for the game, but it still worried Royâquite hypocriticallyâthat Jason was so young.
Jason covered his mouth to snicker as he continued to slowly pick off the guys patrolling below him. He gave a thumbs up to Roy. Clearly enjoying the situation.

Jason snuck high above this Superman. Something, was off about him. The boy looked down, the man seemed lost, younger than the one he knew.
He decided to test his senses, tapping the steel beam he was on before grappling away. (For MAWS Superman from @jaybinlad )
"I could've swore I seen a stray cat here." Superman mutters to himself as he looks around, scratching his head with one finger.
As soon as he started to walk, he heard a tapping sound from above and quickly looks up. There was nothing. "Strange."
Jason rolled his eyes. This Superman, for wherever it was the boy somehow had wound up, was not the brightest bulb.
Now, he pulled a birdarang out. He threw it and bounced it off a steel beam a little ways away and catching it when it came back.
Superman lowers himself and began to walk, still wondering what was that sound from before. "Slow day, but at least I can take a breather from stopping crimes." He said to himself.
His heighten sense of hearing caught the sound of something hitting a steel beam. He looks around for it.
It took everything within the young vigilante to not laugh at the look on Supermanâs face. At this point, he silently dropped behind the man of steel. Intent to just follow him and wait to see how long it took the alien to realize someone was behind him.

Duke appreciation, let him interact with his siblings more often dc đ
Robins are much more similar to each other than they seem
* Dick had more conflicts than people remember.

âItâs not my fault that salad like most raw vegetables has absolutely zero taste.â He joked as he took the second bowl gratefully and quickly arranged his bowl. Though shockingly enough, there was not enough dressing to drown it and make the salad a soup.
The rain gently hitting the apartment window. It took Jason places. He remembered the rare quiet nights at home, curled up on the couch with one of his early chapter books. Admittedly these memories were hazy, as he was still young enough to have had Sparky before the dog âmysteriouslyâ vanished. He had a few theories.
Yeah, it was a bit too clean for Penguin. That made him even more nervous in all honesty. Someone this disciplined, that didnât leave a lot of different options. And none were pleasant.
âYou are right, it is really clean for Penguin. There are two more options I can think of. Both of which I would rather not face without Bruce being here.â He admitted as he stroked his chin in a way not to dissimilar from the way Bruce would.
âOne possibility is Deathstroke. The big problem with the Deathstroke theory is that last anyone heard Dick and the Titans were dealing with him.â He sighed.
âThe other is arguably worse. Râas could be trying another of his schemes to destroy Gotham. Because somehow that will convince Bruce to take over the league from him I guess? At least that is what he seems to think.â Jason sighed.
âNo matter what it is a good thing you kept an eye on this. B has been stressing over Joker. Heâs been active a lot lately. Maybe heâs in on whatever this is. Whoever it is, even if it isnât anyone we know, likely knows Bruce will prioritize whatever the biggest threat is.â In most cases, that was indeed the clown prince of crime.
âHopefully we can figure it out and have it dealt with before B is back. If there is one thing that I have learned, itâs that heâll beat himself up if whatever this is was done under his nose.â
He then looked back at Barbra. âAnd heâs sure that you arenât a better detective than he is? Seemingly found this first.â Jason joked.
