i know this is the piss on the poor website but its also something worse and way stranger because every time i give general advice that amounts to “regrettably, sometimes, the problem in a rocky relationship is you” people will pop up out of every crevice to be like “insane take, why are you telling battered wives and abused children its their fault”

i can say something like “honesty is the best policy” and i will have comments from strangers inventing convoluted scenarios where someone is rigged with a bomb that will explode if they dont lie and be like “this doesn’t apply if you have the exploding truth collar i just imagined, seriously harmful take”

I saw someone say something similar the other day about twitter where his point was basically that there's a whole genre of post where someone will tweet about doing something really nice and positive and then a whole army of people will come into their replies to dream up a situation where the thing they did is bad actually. Like idk if it's envy or resentment or just a need to feel like you're smarter than everyone else but it's annoying as fuck
