this is honestly really upsetting me because we deal with enough unfounded “evolution is bad” from within our own fandom as it is, but to have to take it from former “fans” and random outsiders too (who obviously wouldn’t like it because they don’t care enough for it) is beyond frustrating.

like, again. this show is good and on par with cm’s original run, especially in the later seasons when it felt like you were there for the characters more than the cases (at least for me) (and honestly a lot of evolution i’d argue is better as much as i am a lover and defender of the later seasons of cm).

honestly, and this is going to be me sounding holier than thou and like i have a giant ego (thanks, autism), i think the gap between people that like later seasons cm AND evolution and people that don’t comes from a difference in how we approach characters. some of us have a deeper love and understanding of that. some people don’t. and that’s okay. (and obviously there are the people that stopped watching bc their character left, which i can understand in a way, but i feel like even then i wouldn’t be able to unattach myself to the others). i’m gonna try not to say that this makes us better. i’m gonna try really hard. but it definitely makes us the target audience of this show. so it’s understandable that people that aren’t that way wouldn’t care.

i love you for saying this because you kind of put into words something i've felt that i have trouble articulating.

i love all of CM's run, but i did not become obsessive about the show until the later seasons of the show. season 10 on is when something started shifting for me and i started getting really really into the show, with s12 (and garvez) clinching the deal for me. and i've reflected on it before and it really comes down to the characters and the character work that is put into the later seasons and evolution.

earlier seasons of CM obviously had many many incredibly written episodes, there are some insane arcs and stories and some insane unsubs, but at the end of the day, character stuff always felt to me like it was secondary to all of that. and i mean, whatever. it was a procedural and that's how procedurals work. episodes are 90% plot and 10% character side stuff, with a handful of character-centric episodes thrown in. but in the show's later years, and much much more in evolution, character stuff has really stepped up and become a main focus of the story.

i like the ongoing story of evolution and i LOVE the character stuff. evolution is different than season 4 or 7 or whatever season gets held up as the best season ever, and that's what i love about it. and it also ticks me right off to see takes about the show from people who are like "i stopped watching when hotch left" well then this show isn't FOR YOU is it? zip ittttttt

yup. like i honestly love the character stuff they did do in the early seasons but i loveeee how much more there was/is in later seasons cm/evolution. because that’s WHY i love the show in the first place!!! i stopped Truly caring about the cases like that like a few episodes into season one LOL

#tldr you HAVE to care about the characters #i apologize once again for having the ‘i’m always right’ and ‘my way is the only way’ autism #… but i do genuinely think i’m right about this and we do just love these characters More #like if they dropped the crime aspect entirely i would still watch the show because that’s not at all my priority #obviously it is some people’s priority. especially casual viewers

guys we watched on prime video last night instead of directly on paramount+ and the episode was in full quality. i however do not have prime connected to paramount. but i did not realize it was even possible to watch the last two seasons of evolution in anything not pixelated. what the hell is wrong with paramount+ like actually

if anyone else is struggling with this, there’s an extension you can download (i know for sure it’s on both chrome and firefox) called paramount quality+ and that overrides paramount’s weird video optimization!

that part of jj and henry’s conversation where she acknowledges that she used to push through things but that now she was going to be honest… i actually am still so emotional over that.
