😢 - Biggest emotional triggers?

A very twisted up combo of being disliked, rejected, or being laughed at.

Growing up I don't think Dylan was overly liked in school or with a lot of things socially, people alternated between finding him edgy enough to consider him kind of a douche bag or just too much personality for them. I think this is why it's a trigger for him, kids made comments his entire life about him being annoying, when someone does it now all of the sudden he's fifteen and a group of classmates are scoffing about how he can never just shut the fuck UP.

Publicly he definitely brushes stuff off like no one's business but it will eat him ALIVE. Even (especially) with friends, Abi's little digs? Kaitlyn's little digs? Jacob's not-so-little digs? He definitely thinks about that and if he does it enough it bums him out quite a bit, is that really what his people think of him?

I think this is specifically a bit more of an issue if any sort of rejection or dislike of him happens when he's not putting up his blasé front or once he lets someone in because well damn, that means they just don't like HIM!

(Little HC insert, I think Kaitlyn specifically was a huge breath of fresh air for him as a friend and really boosted his confidence and self-worth because of how blatantly honest she is. If she hated him she'd straight up tell him and he knows that, I think he looks up to it a bit and really respects it, if she hangs around him so much he can't suck too badly)

👑 - Self-image?

Something he has struggled with and continues to struggle with in most aspects, sweet boy is disgustingly insecure!!

A chunk, but not all, of that insecurity I think does come from his identity with being gay, its always been something he couldn't help but always had to defend. I don't think he actively tried to hide it growing up but I think he got a lot of shit for it, outside of the house specifically.

As time went I think the joking and snarky attitude helped him keep a lot of the comments at bay, he'd get people laughing at something else first. What he couldn't make up for in hyper-masculinity or being in a cliche he'd make up for by being the class clown, biting first through a joke just so people knew he wasn't defenseless or above getting petty.

He's embarrassed of who he is deep down, he likes music and old tech and science and loves his cat, he's kind of a loser and worries people will fully validate his self-hatred if they learn that. (the blasé Dylan thing lowkey breaks my heart bc he is SO cool)

Physically I think he doesn't really have too many issues with himself, he's just kind of A Guy which I LOVE. I do think the height bothered him a bit when he was younger. He was always the tallest anywhere he went, taller than both his parents and all of his friends. I think now that he's an adult and isn't towering over EVERYONE by over a foot it doesn't bother him as much.

I think now in his life he's sort of allowing his physical appearance to be exactly what makes him happy, he wasn't ever someone who had a super crazy or out there style, but now especially he wears silly graphic shirts and accessorizes with funky bracelets or rings and styles his hair in a way that makes him and only him feel happy, if someone else likes it? Cool! Thanks! :D If someone doesn't? Cool, they don't have to!

🚢 - Dream vacation?

Idk if this is like, dream vacation but I think Dylan really enjoys/would really enjoy traveling to NYC or city atmospheres! Lots of good food, good music, good culture, somewhere he can experience a lot but also walk around with his headphones on and be left unbothered and to his own devices.

I think if he lived in-state (the game takes place in Upstate NY, (AKA WHERE I GREW UP AND A HUGE REASON OF WHY I LOVE THE GAME SO MUCH!!), once he's old enough he'd go down to the city by himself a lot, take a train, strut around to some cool music stores or pawn shops that have old radio equipment, get good food, watch a DJ set, then take the train back. I think he'd really like bringing someone down and showing them the places he likes too!

💼 - Must-have items when packing for a trip?

ADHD and/or anxiety meds, if he forgets one or both he's a jittery mess and can't enjoy any aspect of the trip. He gets himself so freaked out about not having them that he kind of messes himself up more than not having the meds does. Headphones/earbuds are also a necessity.

Additionally I think he has a comfort item of clothing or a stuffed animal that he doesn't need to have with him but it helps, specifically during the actual traveling to the destination part of the trip, eases any nerves.

His music taste is a bit performative but he's completely serious about it, that mixed with bit of early 2000s rock/music that sounds early 2000s. Like a lighter, slightly more psychedelic version of the vibe Rodrick Heffley produces LMFAO

🫂 - Favorite way to show affection?

Dylan is 1000000% a big ol' CUDDLE BUG!!!

I think he's a pretty casually touchy guy with most people, arms around shoulders, grabbing/holding onto a hand or shoulder to get someone's attention or ask a question, leaning his chin or arms on their heads and shoulders. Big fan of those like, 'popular girl' hugs where they'll have an entire convo with you while squeezing and rocking you back and forth, him and Emma have def done that at least once xD

He's definitely a playful/casual cuddler, everything is typically very light and silly, he'll throw pillows at you and is almost always talking during it unless he's conked out. Isn't above getting close physically with friends and will kill to put his head in someone's lap, he's a cat :3

I HC that him and Kaitlyn (I really love them can you tell) kind of have a bit of a trauma bond post-game and Dylan really takes a lot of comfort in being close to her, BUT he is constantly trying to catch himself and avoid being all over her since she isn't overly touchy, she so knows he's doing it and thinks its kind of funny.

They'll be sitting on his bed watching a movie and he's so fidgety and squirmy, all she has to do is lift her arm and all six foot two of him is wedged into her side within .2 seconds and he is the most content and assured and comforted ever (she secretly finds it kind of sweet and doesn't mind allowing him to indulge with some cuddles)

I hope this wasn't too long or too ooc or too project-y!! I have had three separate friends tell me I'm similar to Dylan personality-wise and I refuse to believe they're saying that to be anything but kind to my Dylan-loving heart. Looking directly at you kikimora :P

There were a million summer romance scenarios she'd been playing on repeat in the back of her mind since signing up to be a counselor: Catching eyes and coyly looking away over a campfire, getting lost in the woods and having to huddle under a tree together to stay out of the rain, sunsets and thunderstorms and scary stories told over marshmallows that would give her an excuse to reach for someone else's hand and lace their fingers tight. Movie scenes, really, moments that lent themselves to a sweeping orchestral score.

This wasn't that - not by a long shot - so it took her an extra minute to recognize it for what it was.

"Whatcha doin'?" she'd asked on the tail-end of a yawn, plunking herself down beside Abi at the picnic table, and though she'd only just only woken up and her eyes were still blurry in the pre-dawn glow, she squinted to make out the shapes spreading across her sketchbook.

Abi didn't look up, didn't look away, didn't look at her at all; her focus was intense, her eyes moving with a purpose she could only guess at, and when she spoke it was half a whisper ("Just trying to get the tree before the light changes"), as though worried the sound of her voice might break the stillness of the clearing and ruin whatever it was she was trying to capture.

Perhaps Sam/Kait when Sam came back from the run Kait hadn’t even started? (Was mentioned in the face ages ago this is so late…)

"Why the long face?" Sam asked as she made it to the bottom of the stairs, rosy-cheeked but otherwise - God help them all - unruffled from her run, and what was she supposed to do with that, huh, what?!

"Oh, y'know, just trying not to let the crushing weight of your betrayal wreck my whole day," Kaitlyn joked, only as soon as it was out of her mouth she cringed, backpedaling about as quick and hard as a pedal could be backed, "I was gonna offer to be your jogging buddy this morning, that's all."

The wrinkle between Sam's eyebrows smoothed, and as she reached up to undo her ponytail, shaking it out before securing it in a flyless bun, she laughed. "Aw man, I can totally go again! Just let me catch my breath for a second - I got stamina for days, you'll see."

And if she said her stomach dropped when the update came across her feed, what of it? She was allowed to be sick, permitted to knot her hands at her elbows to stop them from shaking; she was alone, after all, in the privacy of her own goddamn room, and even if she hadn't been, what business of anyone else's was the blood rushing to her face or the sudden flutter of shame in her chest?

On her screen, the type made no less bold for the fact one of the parties had blocked her months ago, she stared at the one thing she'd been dreading for as long as she could remember: Mike Munroe is in a relationship with Jessica Riley.

There would be looks, she knew, and whispers and jokes and all the nasty things she'd doled out to others in her shoes a million times before, but while they would sting, none of them would land. She didn't care if Mike was with someone - anyone - new, didn't give one single, solitary shit what he did with his life anymore, but Jess?

"I-If we live through this," Ashley managed through the chattering of her teeth, her voice squished by how tightly she'd hunched in on herself, "remi-ind me to ne-ever listen t-t-to you a-again."

Jess was slower to respond, checking the window for the millionth time to see if any of their idiot friends had thought to come searching this way, but eventually she glanced over her shoulder and snorted, "It's not that bad, Debbie Downer, chill out."

"Ch-chilling is the problem," she snapped back, her breath fogging the dank, dusty air of the guest cabin, "all be-ecause you said 'Ye-Yeah, sure, we're gonna stay insi-ide, you should wear the sh-sh-shorts.'"

She let go of the drapes with a huff, throwing herself onto the couch with all the world-weariness of one of the characters from the bodice-rippers her mom was always reading. "Oh my God, for the last time, I look good in low-rise, you look good in cut-offs, and even if we do freeze to death out here waiting for them to come find us, you have to appreciate that our dead bodies will look fine as hell!"
