Mennonites singing while being arrested for their protest demanding a ceasefire in Palestine.
Mennonite women wear headcoverings and do not wear pants. I don't know who those people are but they're not Mennonite.
Mennonites are way more diverse than people realize and different congregations have different expectations of congregants. Modesty and simplicity are the ideal, and solid colors are common, but there is no one strict dress code that applies to every single Mennonite.
From the faq on MennoniteUSA.org:
"Mennonite women used to wear coverings or prayer veils on their heads all the time and dressed plainly, wearing conservative clothing and no make-up or jewelry. Men also dressed plainly, and ministers often wore a plain coat and collarless shirt. Today only the most conservative Mennonites do this; most Mennonites look like anyone else you meet on the street."
There is actually a whole denomination of Mennonites who don’t follow plain dress! I am one of them. It is called Mennonite Church USA and also represents a wide variety of beliefs and practices.
This particular gathering was organized by Mennonite Action, a movement dedicated to peaceful Palestinian liberation.
