So, in all of the chapters we've came across, almost all of them were set in dark places, except Chapter 5.

Why's that?

Theory: The sun seems to continuously set constantly in a shepherds-tone like pattern. Constantly going down, but never setting. Pretty intense. Also you start out someplace that seems like a flood plain... strange. Like you're really close to a body of water. But inside the flower shop, there really isn't any pools of water, or even a small water fountain. Finally, there's the theme, the story motif: Jealousy and abandonment. Susie hanging out part time with flowery at a distance, same thing going on with Ralsei. A seemingly perfect being that's kinda occupying all of Kris's friends time. Never really interacting with Kris directly, but indirectly (even the Cyber Queen, Tenna, and Gerson had hung out with Kris at some point in time, even if for a short while). Paired with themes of the flowers wanting to hang out with Asgore, but they're all neglected because of Asgore trying to solve a case. All of these things illicit strong emotions. Emotions so strong that it can carry over into the vessel every time it rips Kris's soul out of their body.

Summation: The reason why there was so much light in the Flower Kingdom dark world was because Kris was watching the sunset (and the scene that unfolded) by the lake. And the reason why Kris's vessel opened the fountain in the flower shop is either because:

A.) Their dad was getting close to finding out what happened to Dess as we had seen in chapter 4 in the vents of Noelles house, and whoever controlling the vessel other than Kris's soul (Us), is stopping them.

or

B.) Kris's vessel is stopping Susie from catching up to Noelle, either out of minor possessive jealousy, or because they're trying to keep Susie as far away from Noelle as possible (or keeping Susie from finding out what happened to Noelle's dad. Still thinking that Carol faked the emergency).

The crux of the theory:

Even if you try to go back to bed in Chapter 5, you STILL wake up in the darkener world, meaning that even if you didn't witness the lake scene, you still have to deal with the dark world either way. The sun remains the same, and the theory has hit a snow-grave style dead end...

Toby Fox says that there will be one ending, and in a way he's right, because no matter how the game ends, the credits still roll the same.

It's what happens BEFORE the end that could be a huge difference. Too many variables have been put in place for there to just be one single plot ending. But the one ending they'll have in common is when the game ends with the credits rolling.

Pacifist, Snow Grave, Aborted snow grave route, Genocide, sleepy pacifist route (pacifist, but you also just slept through as much of the game as possible). Who lives, who dies, who's still hanging around Castle town, Even with all of the possible endings, the credits will still roll.
