i once read somebody online make the point that nobody has absolute trust in science by saying, imagine the person you love the most in the world was demonstrated to have no brain at all. you'd lose trust in science then. it's a really bad argument and it's really stuck with me, i wish i could find it to read it again. the universe speaks out to exactly you and says in order for what you value to make sense you have to close your eyes as tight as you can

i think my favourite part of the odyssey (the book) is when odysseus first gets back to ithaca and meets up with athena in disguise, and she asks him "what is your name and where do you come from" and he makes something up.
and she's like "Wow. you really love lying! don't you, you little scoundrel?"
like it's funny - and it's a cool moment where we see some real intimacy between a god and a human
but it's also like suddenly as the reader you're like uhhh hang on a second... uhhh so was any of that shit real???
I finished the book so I'm goin on a lil odyssey of my own over the hills to the nearest imax theatre (I could take the train but I like to larp) #MyOdyssey
sitting waiting for the train thinking about what I've just watched.
I could already tell you so many things I didn't like about it but I'd still give it a 9/10. I guess that's nolan for you.

damn the spongebob movie (2004) is literally just the odyssey. if only i'd kept up on my ancient greek classics as a kid I could've appreciated it all the more...

I love david lynch and he's my favourite director but I'm on my 2nd watch of twin peaks the return rn and i really have no idea what I'm supposed to be taking from this. my current theory is that it's a very loose adaptation of the odyssey. "tell me, o muse, of that special agent, who wandered in dreams..."
I guess what I loved about twin peaks at its best is the exquisite balance of the mundane and the surreal, and I guess the return does a similar thing - except the mundanity exists in a series of seemingly unconnected random events rather than in a grounded narrative and setting. and so the surrealism, rather than being exciting, almost feels like a welcome relief, a return to the familiar.
it just doesn't really feel like the world of twin peaks. it feels much more like the world of lost highway & mulholland drive & inland empire (which isn't necessarily a bad thing)
So full that i see my giant roast chicken as a man stranded on a raft with me
