Every scene in TBOSAS was so flat and lacking of discernment (due to CGI) while having the same musical pacing that I genuinely did not know when a pivotal moment was happening aside from when Lucy was singing. The lack of practical effects and the rushing of literally every scene didn’t help. Every piece of dialogue spoken is unnatural and so on the nose that I can’t find myself caring about a single one of these characters.

Please don’t confuse this as me not understanding the story. I understood every scene. Because it left no room for nuance at all with every piece of dialogue being flat, explain-y, and on the nose.

I think above all, this movie suffers from too much CGI and rushing, although somehow it felt slow? Less is more. I would rather literally half of these scenes be cut out in favor of dialogue and setting that is complex enough to convey more than one thing at once, and gives insight into these characters. By focusing on character work, you get insight into the world without having to just tell us all the time.

This movie relies too much on franchise familiarity that it doesn’t bother giving characters any depth or real story. Did I mention that every shot looks the damn same?? Character in middle of screen with an empty or blurry background.

The original trilogy/franchise makes you care about characters who only show up for a short time. The practical effects were awesome.

At some point in the first act of TBOSAS a tribute murders a capitol student by stabbing her in the jugular. There’s no blood. People are smashed by rocks during the rebel attack. No real wounds. Just embarrassing idk I’m kind of getting mad the more I think about it.

Overall, this movie did nothing to convince me that Snow was That Guy and it was all about love at the end of the day. Again, this is probably due to the 5/10 script.

Shoutout to Peter Dinklage for doing his thing and to Viola Davis for being a legend who is the only one who embodied the Capitol.
