was playing around with the concept of long haired eragon just for funsies (and for my "he's the carbon copy of selena minus the eyebrows" agenda)

headcanon that everybody on mount arngnor has long gorgeous hair so eragon had the opposite of mental breakdown DIY bangs and grew his hair out with magic

Starting out with almost poisoning herself on some berries as a child, creating a fascination on how such small things can result in such effects. Then later on she tries things out on sick and dying farm animals. At one point when she's around 16 she takes care of an old woman in the village, who makes it very clear that she's tired of living and wasting away trapped in her old body. Selena is nervous and makes sure that she mixes together enough to truly make it a swift death. She succeeds with the woman falling asleep and never waking up and no one catching onto anything.

It gives her an idea though when one day another girl from the village - who has always liked to mock Selena for not wanting to marry, wanting to run away all the time, wearing her brother's pants and so on - humiliates Selena in front of her friends. Of course, her friends stand behind Selena and when she acts like it doesn't bother her, everyone believes it.

Later that evening, at the tavern, Selena poisons the woman's drink. It's the night Morzan arrived in Carvahall and he's lurking in the shadows, seeing it. The woman doesn't drink enough though and Selena hadn't managed to empty all the poison into her drink, so she 'only' starts cramping and throwing up. When people start pointing fingers, the suspicion quickly falls onto Selena, since she was the only one who sat close enough and some people thought that they saw her do something from the corners of their eye. Selena talks her way out of it, but what clears away the last suspicions is, when Morzan reveals himself and declares that the woman may just be acting to ruin Selena’s life. Be it that the people bow to the opinion of one of the king's men, or be it that they believe that the woman would play such tricks - Selena is free to go without further accusations and insults.
