She was laying eggs!!
You must smell milkweed, without snorting an ant or a bee- it’s beautiful!
Milkweed in the lawn, milkweed in the garden, milkweed in the patio, milkweed in the arbor 😆

Took down the abandoned nest from awhile back and found a single egg 😠Not sure why they moved on so quickly after building, but maybe being on a downspout wasn’t what they dreamed it would be.
There’s a game I like playing sometimes where I imagine someone has just come into a garden of their own, but they need their neighbors’ help getting started, and I walk around the yard looking at everything I could share with them. (This is just a continuation of the plant swap mentality- but it’s fun all the same.)
And I walk around thinking, well, there’s anise hyssop everywhere, along with lemon catmint, lemon balm, chives… If they’re in need of trees, I have willow saplings and the silver maple I saved (but only if they have a huge yard and can plant it far away from any infrastructure. I hope they inherited an estate). Perhaps they like ornamental grass? Hollyhocks sprout up here and there. We also have all those yucca roots in the bucket, if they’re adventurous, along with Solomon Seal tubers. There’s Morning Glory in the patio cracks, if they aren’t afraid of it spreading.
Even if your garden has fallen into disarray or there’s just not much going on, maybe there’s still some joy peeking through the cracks. Or maybe you’ve inherited something and can build from the volunteers!
What could you offer at a moment’s notice?
