Only because I couldnāt resist...
The vampire, I mean the very stereotypical vampire with pale skin and fangs, that appeared on my doorsteps at sundown, about bites my neck and I push him away. It is the same move I use to push away boys when I donāt want to kiss them.
āWait...If I do this, it the garlic thing legit?ā I ask deciding to tease him a bit. I really donāt want to know what will happen if he bites me. My blood may boil or something. My mother wasnāt clear when she died and told me that the supernatural would come.
āWhat?ā He asks bewildered. When he first knocked on my door, he sounded Romanian but now, I think that was all a lie, he sounds like heās from Manhattan.
āGarlic. When I become a vampire, can I eat garlic?ā
āWhat about black garlic?ā I ask.
āItās still garlic, so no. No garlic. Thatās apart of the deal.ā He says annoyed. His name is Nathaniel and told me he was turned in 1893.
āWhat about garlic salt?ā
āNo, garlic! Garlic and vampires do not mix, got it?ā
āAll right. Fine. What about mirrors?ā I ask sitting down at my dining room table. My older sister isnāt going to be happy when she comes home and finds me along with a boy, even if he came to turn me into a vampire. āBecause Iām quite sure the reason why youāre here is because Iām rather vain and love mirrors.ā
āOnly if there is a silver backing to the mirror.ā
āOh, good, because if not this was going to be a long second life.ā I say as I hear the cat outside meow loudly and a dogās bark.
Nathaniel swears and hisses as the sliding door opens. A young man no older than Nathaniel and I comes walking into my house. His hair is dirty blonde and long and heās tan.
āThis is my territory, Rufus.āĀ
āYou are in violation of the treaty. She has to hear the other side.ā
āWhat?ā I ask looking between the two boys. They are complete opposites. One seems to worship the devil and the other is a golden ray of sunshine with a laid back smile.
āPerfect name for a dog.ā Nathaniel mutters.
āIām the Werewolf liaison.ā
āIs this some sort of joke? What does the supernatural want with me?ā I ask actually concerned. She told me that we were safe but to tell them the truth when they did come. I am just supposed to see how much they know first.
āAh, you can see us.ā Nathaniel answers glaring at Rufus.
āGive me your sales pitch, werewolf, he told me I canāt eat garlic and Iām half Italian.ā
The werewolf smiles and launches into his sales pitch, telling me about being a werewolf. I can eat people food, I go to the beach and get tan, not forgo this life.
āBut once a month you turn into a monster.ā Nathaniel says.
āBut you look like a monster all day.ā Rufus adds.
āBut I can control myself. You are out of your mind during the full moon.ā
āYeah, yeah, only the pups are and thatās if they donāt have proper training. So, Ella, what do you want? To become a vampire and drink blood and sleep in coffins or to join the pack?ā
āAnd get fleas and maybe a stay in the pound.ā Nathaniel adds.
I look between the two boys. āYou two really didnāt do your research.ā I say.
āWhat do you mean?ā Rufus asks.
āAbout why I could see you.ā
āAh, we were just told you could see the supernatural.ā
I smile and snap my fingers dropping my disguise. āYeah, and does the world Fae ring a bell?ā
They both stare at me. āAh, what?ā Nathaniel asks stepping back.
āMy mother is Jessamine, Princess of the Fae, sheās just been living a mortal life without your knowledge. She told me to do this if you showed up.ā
āI thought the Fae were gone.ā Rufus mutters under his breath. And that statement is true. The rest of the supernatural world thought the Fae were gone. They just didnāt realized that my mother left before the court fell.
āSo, what happens when you mix a Fae and a vampire?ā I ask.
āAh, weāre not finding out.ā Nathaniel answers and Rufus nods and looks at his archenemy.
āI donāt know! I thought the Fae went extinct twenty years ago!ā Rufus exclaims.
āWe are not going to tell anyone, got it dog?ā
āBecause they just didnāt die out.ā Nathaniel answers. āThey killed them.ā
āWho?ā I ask never hearing this side of the story.
āThat much remains unknown to me.ā He answers softly.
There you go, a short story. Maybe Iāll continue it.
P.S. Loved the writing prompt!
