Already an interesting conversation on it's own that deserves it's own essay, but I wanted to sorta copy and paste something I said to her in regards to how that parallels PHM in a way that I just SUPER latched onto.

Because Grace, like Simon, is seen as the most valuable asset but in a way that disregards his humanity. Simon is the person that will help gain resources to help the last of the human race, but it's because he's a criminal so if he dies in the sub who gives a shit. Grace is the scientist who knows the most about astrophage that will help the human race, but he also - from everyone else's point of view - has nothing to tie him to Earth so who gives a shit if we launch him into space. By neither of them meeting the ideal expectations of their societies, they're seen as valuable in a way that also makes them disposable. It's fine to sacrifice their lives for everyone elses because they're more valuable dying for a cause than living with the rest of us.

underestimated how busy i'd be this week

Think about it, the man shot Donut and Lopez, held Doc hostage, teamed up with the Meta, hunted down Church and Tex, tried to kill the reds and blues- the mans did some wild ass villain shit when you think about it and then just… did practically nothing to earn the reds and blues trust- like literally he did all this awful shit and his redemption is just the reds and blues being like “look at this funky traumatized military man let’s adopt him and make him our dad”

The blues just take him in and the reds don’t even question it even though he shot two of their guys.

I don’t think Wash even had a say in his own redemption, the reds and blues just forcefully pushed him into it because Caboose was basically the “*gasps* I wanna keep this one he made a cute face to me” meme, and we all know that you can’t say no to Caboose.

Wash did basically nothing to earn his redemption and I find that so fucking funny- (obviously he’s trying to make amends now but the initial redemption is just- he did nothing to earn that 😂) like just imagine if that happened in literally any other show, people would be LIVID. They’d be screaming every single tumblr fandom buzzword you could name but meanwhile RvB fandom is just like “yeah that seems about right.” And I love it so much.
