for  some  reason,  vada  hates  grocery  runs.  they're  tedious,  boring,  and  generally  not  how  she'd  choose  to  spend  her  time,  but  the  apartment  needs  stocking  up.  seeing  as  she  has  a  lot  more  free  time  than  tabby,  she  offers  to  take  care  of  it  for  both  of  them.  turning  into  the  next  aisle,  she  catches  sight  of  yasemin,  eyes  flickering  with  mischief  as  she  makes  her  way  over.  "  well,  this  is  a  surprise,  "  she  says,  voice  light  and  teasing.  "  i  thought  you'd  usually  have  someone  else  doing  the  boring  errands  for  you.  "

an air of distaste washes over her the moment she hears vada speak, and it's evident in her expression. a particular annoyance she's unfortunately become accustom to. but of all the inconveniences in this town, at least the blonde makes it interesting. " i don't, no. " while she does have an assistant, yasemin doesn't tend to ask her to do anything unrelated to business. as big as her ego is, there are some things that keep her grounded " but if you're the sight that comes with grocery shopping, i might consider hiring someone. i'm surprised they have any custom left. "

Noah knows he’s not always well-received. But he really tries to own up to his shit, where and when he can. And the problem here is that Kai is just so damn resistant. So as much as Noah tries to take ownership of the whole thing, Kai won’t let him. But it’s not out of the goodness of his heart, or anything remotely kind. It’s that Kai cannot spare enough of a moment to care that he’d rather the whole thing just go away. Kai, ever the immovable object and Noah, ever the unstoppable force. Noah wants so badly to be able to be some sort of friends, because if anything at all, Kai’s the one who set him and Wes up in the first place. Admittedly, that wasn’t the intention at all, but it was the catalyst. Noah wants to be able to thank the man at a proverbial wedding one day. “The real lack of enthusiasm really screams peachy keen there, bud. You and your sister both seem constantly teetering on the edge of murdering me. So which is it?” He sighed. “I owe a lot to you man. I just want you to be able to know that.” 

he's tuned more into the music now, with noah fading into the background. until he mentions maeve, that is. his head snaps up. " don't you talk about my sister, " he warns quietly. has something bad been said about her ? no, not particularly. but at present, she's a subject he's sensitive about. his eyes narrow, and for a moment he's silent, still. then it comes. a sarcatic chuckle of both disbelief and amusement. " owe me ? what in the bleedin' hell are you talkin' about ? i'm not some matchmaker. you don't owe me shit for someone answering a craigslist ad for a room. jesus . . . " really, he did nothing. simply existed in his home until it no longer felt like his. " what exactly are you after here ? "

maeve's  last  good  birthday  was  her  fourteenth  –  the  rest  had  all  come  and  gone.  in  fact,  she  loved  ignoring  them.  nothing  was  scarier  than  the  passage  of  time  and  the  lack  of  things  to  show  for  it.  she  looks  at  her  phone,  waiting  to  see  kai's  three  dots  pop  back  up  after  she'd  texted  him  back,  but  they  don't.  TWENTY-SEVEN  BIRTHDAYS  they'd  spent  together.  it  looked  like  this  was  going  to  be  their  first  apart.  she  throws  her  phone  down,  head  snapping  up  when  she  hears  a  knock  on  her  door.  she's  hesitant  to  open  it,  but  opens  it  anyways.  she  winces,  slightly,  at  his  announcement.  eyes  catch  a  glimpse  of  the  bag  in  his  hand  before  looking  over  at  him.  he  was  always  so  happy  around  her.  so,  she  musters  up  a  smile  as  best  as  she  can  as  she  steps  back  and  widens  the  walkway.  “you  know,  we  can  just  call  it  wednesday.”

he can see it the instant he opens his mouth. just like him, it seems she isn't a big fan of her own birthday, either. unfortunately for maeve, however, kenji is a big fan of her. " okay, " he nods, but of course in his eyes this is not just any old wednesday. " then happy best wednesday of the year, " he beams, stepping inside as he wills himself not to be awkward this time. " i tried to get a guinness set, but it turns out lego haven't made that yet, " he begins, holding the bag out towards her. " so i got you an actual can of guinness, which is now realize is a little presumptions, because you might not even like it. " it really does taste like shit, in his opinion. " and eventually settled on the titanic lego set. you know, since we've established you would have faired way better against that asshole iceberg. " a pause, brief as always. " and it was actually built in belfast. i thought that was kinda cool. "

millie  never  had  a  pet  growing  up.  she'd  always  wanted  one,  but  there  was  never  any  extra  time  to  dedicate  to  another  living  thing.  that  and  she  couldn't  afford  any  more  added  stress  on  her  already  stressful  life  that  she  felt  trapped  in.  so,  when  she'd  befriended  lilah  and  visited  the  animal  sanctuary  for  the  first  time,  it  felt  like  her  own  version  of  HEAVEN.  minimal  responsibility  that  she  could  shed  as  she  left,  and  an  opportunity  to  tune  out  the  way  life  made  her  feel.  “that  sounds  like  a  dream,”  she  exhales  with  a  smile.  “are  there  any  more  since  my  last  visit  ?”

her soft gaze lingers on millie as she smiles, grin of her own growing by the second. " yeah . . . it might just be. " lilah is very much of the belief that being in a place like this could make life feel a little lighter for just about anyone. she nods. " sure are. we took in twins a few days ago. their mom had a rough time after giving birth, so we've been keeping a close eye on them. " she's been with them as often as possible, barely managing to bring herself to leave their side. " we haven't settled on names just yet, so if you have any ideas, i'm all ears. " one hand lightly touches mille's back when they reach the nursery pen, while the other encourages her to go ahead. " you first. "

he  knocks  on  the  door.  he  usually  texts  before  he  just  drops  by,  but,  for  some  reason,  he  didn't.  WHAT  WAS  THE  WORST  THAT  COULD  HAPPEN  ?  she  wouldn't  be  home  ?  he'd  be  fine.  he  can  hear  the  door  unlocking,  and  a  smile  finds  its  way  to  his  face,  fully  prepared  to  see  his  favorite  pair  of  brown  eyes  looking  up  at  him  as  the  door  opens.  and,  well,  there  certaintly  is  a  pair  of  brown  eyes  looking  at  him  !  his  stomach  drops  and  he  looks  like  he's  seen  a  ghost.  “STEVIE.”  eyes  immediately  look  for  the  apartment  number.  surely  he's  just  walked  to  the  wrong  door,  despite  knowing  the  way  to  winnie's  with  his  eyes  closed.  because  surely  his  EX-GIRLFRIEND  wasn't  in  winnie's  apartment.  “what  are  you  doing  here  ?”

she's barley awake. the best part of the day already far behind her. her head is still throbbing from a few drinks too many the night before, and so when she hears a knock on the door, her first instinct is to ignore it. but against her better judgment, something compels her feet to move. the face she sees is the last one she could ever expect. the sight of him lands like a punch to the get, threatening to knock the air clean out of her. but she does her best not to let it show. can only hope the look in her eyes isn't betraying her act. fingers tighten around the edge of the door, a weak attempt to keep herself grounded. guilt creeps up on her, hard and fast, further pushing her own self-narrative that she is, in fact, a fucking piece of shit. just like her father. but instead of expressing the sorrow she feels for the way she left things, she simply says, " last time i checked, i live here. " her head shakes, searching for something — anything to give. " what are you doing here ? " as quickly as the question is asked, it hits her. winnie. she swallows down. " she's not home. i don't know when she'll be back. "
