The Interrogator

Maddie listened silently as the two put on their wealthy, air head show for Hugo. It fascinated Maddie how the simple act of changing the pitch of their voice could make them seem like completely different people. Earlier when 975682 had given Hugo some compliment and even Maddie had been able to hear the man preening, she had been unable to resist laughing. She loved listening to her team work, from a distance, of course. They were all so vastly capable.

Growing up, Maddie had always been the odd one out. Her mind three steps ahead of everyone else. Now, she was a part of a group of people like her, the odd ones out, the best of the best. It was Hugo’s unfortunate luck to be up against them and the Alpha team.

Madeline sat forward, excitement a low buzz beneath her skin, when Riley got access to Hugo’s computer. There was nothing better than getting to sift through someone’s computer. “All right, nice! An unnamed folder should’ve appeared on his desktop when you put the drive in. Open that and a window should pop up. Click ‘Run command’.” She paused, listening to the quiet tapping that meant Riley was working on it. “Okay, the transfer to my computer is beginning. It’ll take a minute.”

Maddie watched as the transfer window popped open on her computer. Some of it appeared to be encrypted but even more of it wasn’t. People were so careless, even these days, with their computer security.

“All right, thanks Riley. I’m good to go. The drive automatically inserted a script that will continue the transfer indefinitely.”

Riley nodded, though pointless since Madeline couldn’t see it. The folder popped up and Riley was good enough at the hacking part of her training that she could download it easy with Madeline’s leading her through her ear. She clicked the command. “Got it.”

Luckily they could hear Hugo in the office outside and they knew they still hard time when they heard the sound of a printer going out there. The computer ran fast, looked like top of the line. It ran fast and luckily Hugo didn’t have any level of protection on the computer that Madeline couldn’t get through just as fast.

Riley was proud of her team. Her partner set Hugo’s phone down just in the same exact place as before once the coping was complete. If this worked out how they planned they would have copies of everything on his phone and computer and every time his phone rang or he did anything on his computer they would know about it. 

When Riley heard Madeline in her ear say everything as complete she quickly unplugged the drive. “You are prefect Madeline. Check the bugs we placed around the place and let us know if we need to sneak anymore.”

“I’m always in the training rooms. Just let me know when and where, or come up to my room.” Luther lives on the ADDT facility, and he has no issue giving out his room number to anyone there. Luther can go from sleeping to a sleeper hold in about two and a half seconds. If anyone could actually break through the security of the ADDT rooms, Luther would be waiting for them, no problem.

Luther takes the offered napkin with a grin, wiping his face off and setting it back down. He would love to train with Riley. Learning even just a little about what she knows would be incredibly useful. Akido and Krav Maga are more about movement and energy flow. Luther’s learned to take an attackers momentum and use it against them in the easiest way possible. Pressure points are a completely different skill set that work in a completely different way.

“Everyone has different preferences, I guess. I know my M40 got some use in the field when an abrupter couldn’t be taken down. Clean shot from one hundred yard away. My fists couldn’t have done that.” Riley’s disdain for guns is clear, and for the most part, Luther understands why. He’s studied for years in the art of self-defense, using his fists to make sure that no one who didn’t deserve to get hurt, did get hurt. But sometimes, rifles are the only thing suitable to get the job done. In those very rare occasions, Luther’s incredibly grateful for his training in those moments.

Riley smiles between bites. “I’ll check training rooms first then.” It would be nice to have someone to practice with in there. Riley normally sticks to herself in training. Then again she normally just focuses on the more grifting type of rooms when she needs to be practice more in the room she actually needs to improve in. Maybe with a training buddy she might actually be more willing to work more in other places.

Most people can’t seem to stand her over the top personality and the fact that they can’t really keep anything from her for more then a few seconds. Then again if people didn’t try to lie around her she would be much easier to get along with she thinks. She shrugs. She gets guns are useful, in very rare cases in her mind. It doesn’t mean that she has to like them.

Luther returns Riley’s high five. He’s used to her antics by now. Although Riley hasn’t been there for long, her personality is eccentric and easy to remember. Their hands meet with a solid smack and Luther is grinning probably harder than he should be. He’ll chalk it up to her positive energy that never seems to disappear.

“I’m not the best with the shooting simulation either. If you ever want a work out buddy, let me know,” Luther offers. Guns are boring to him, but when he has other people there training with him, he can stay in the simulations and on the range for much longer. He usually shoots with Isabella, but Luther will never turn down another training partner. With the amount of time he puts into the ADDT training rooms another friendly face to change it up would be a welcome change. Luther doesn’t care which squad they work for as long as they’re competent. And from what he’s seen, everyone on code midnight missions were the best of the best.

His food is warm and smells fantastic, and Luther takes a huge mouthful of mashed potatoes. Half of his plate vanishes in front of him in a mostly clean manner. Luther looks up only once with a slightly embarrassed look on his face as he looks over at Riley.

Riley isn’t close with really anyone on either squad yet. She chucks it up to not being there long enough but still she can’t help but be rainbows and smiles to everyone. Her mother use to hate how energetic she was as a child. Riley thinks her personality helps make the job she has to do easier since hardly anything can get her down and with out a smile.

Riley takes a bite and nods. “That would be nice.” She hates guns. Pointless and sloppy. Why take out a gun when the time it takes the other person to do that she can have them disarmed with her thumb so deep in a pressure point they are blacked out? Still, they are necessary at times and Riley is determined to be the best, or as best as she can be, at everything. 

Luther just shakes his head at the mention of Morgan and her food antics. Morgan’s one of the most anti-social people he’s ever met, but the men and women who work behind the food counter seem to love her. She’s got to be charming with someone, he supposes, it’s just strange that it’s them.

“That sounds incredibly painful,” Luther answers with a roll of his shoulders. He can’t even imagine what something like that must feel like. He’s seen pictures of snakes shedding, but he’s never seen it in person before. A snake as big as Riley’s skin probably looks monstrous, too. Whenever she’s at ADDT, Luther can’t help but feel on edge. There’s something about a snake’s eyes that looks too cold for emotion. Maybe it’s because he spent his life around cats and dogs, furry little things that have enough personality and attitude for any person.

“I spent a couple of hours in the training room. It’s easy to loose time there and my stomach did not appreciate it.” His hands rub at his grumbling belly, that lets out another gurgle at the delicious smell of fresh food. “I did break my old record on the melee drill though. By three seconds.”

Riley shrugs. “It’s unconformable, but as long as the environment is set to have a higher humidity it not suppose to be super painful. Now if we did that,” Riley shutters slightly at the though. For someone who interrogates people, sometimes in a semi-unethical setting, Riley was easily grossed out by the strangest of things, like the idea of losing a layer of skin once a month or so.

She lets the conversation go away from the snake She knows people aren’t as comfortable around the creature as she is. Though Riley doesn’t understand what is so scary about, it just as cute as any other pet in her mind, cuter then some also. Still she knows that snakes are not as cute to others as they are too her.

Riley smiles. Before Riley started working for ADDT or even just the CIA three seconds seemed like the smallest amount of time. Three seconds was nothing. Now three seconds could make or break anything. It was the hugest difference when working a mission. She raises her hand up, thought no where near as high as a high five found be if Luther was the one giving it but it was still the same motion. “That is awesome!”

“That, I don’t doubt,” Luther says with a chuckle. He’s never seen the mess hall run out of food, and something tells him it would be a bloodbath if they did, with the way some of his squad mates eat. “You should be more concerned about Morgan. She’s much more likely to eat us out of house and home.”

 Riley isn’t what he expects when someone says hitter. She’s small, both in height and bulk compared to a lot of people in their profession, and she has a sunny disposition that he’s never seen her without. But she’s proven that she can hold her own with the best of them, and her interrogation skills are through the roof. Luther can’t imagine that side of her job. While he functions as an a strategist on the field, Riley can get even the most closely guarded secrets away from people. Luther isn’t one to lie, but he learned very early on not to do so in front of Riley. She has no qualms about throwing your words back in your face, for better or for worse, and Luther would rather refuse to answer than have that happen.

“Where’s the snake?” Luther can’t help but ask. Riley usually has it on her person, and sometimes he’s shocked to see her without it. Whether or not it helps her interrogation, he has absolutely no idea, but the damn thing is intimidating and sometimes puts him on edge. He’s not a snake person, per say. They don’t bother him, and he doesn’t bother them.

“Or her getting the cooks to just save everything for her.” Maybe it was how she grew up. Riley was most certainly nice with everyone who worked with ADDT, but she didn’t get friendly or really talk much to anyone out of the squads in midnight. She didn’t see much of a point in it. Of course Morgan saw a point in it and it was to get what ever she wanted saved for her on busy days. 

Riley sticks out her bottom lip in a sad pout. “At my apartment. She’s in the middle of shedding and doesn’t like to be messed with. Can’t say I blame her loosing a full layer of skin has to hurt.” Riley is pretty sure the sound from the person behind her in line now was disgust to her talking about this is in the food line. Sure most people might not be as hungry after hearing about a snake shedding, Riley didn’t understand people’s problems with them species.
