The dead cannot cry out for justice. It is a duty of the living to do so for them.

Ava Coleman was raised by her maternal grandparents from the age of three as her parents were in dire straits and unable to care for her. She saw her parents often, but more often than not, they were gone on business trips in hopes of making it big with their inventions. Eventually, her parents stopped coming back, assuming it was better to leave her with her grandparents than keeping up her hopes of them reuniting and giving her a big home with a white picket fence.
To fill the giant hole in her heart, Ava spent most of her time with books. Her favorite place was the medical and science sections in the public library. She would spend hours and hours there, sometimes staying until they closed and returning early the next morning to pick more books up. It was there that she decided to become a doctor to help and save others. After one of her long days studying in the library, she was approached by a taxi driver who offered her a ride home.
Following that ride in the big yellow taxi, Ava learned the existence of an organization that metaphorically and literally put out fires. The purpose of the organization coincided with her desire to help others and she found herself at the VFD Headquarters when she became a full-fledged member. It was there that she met her beautiful wife, Sybil, and made many more friends and allies. After the VFD lost several beloved members, she returned to school to become a medical examiner in hopes of finding answers and closure for people. Nearly a year after her wife’s mysterious death, she’s still searching for her own answers as to why and who could be responsible.
Widow of SYBIL HOLLOWAY
Ava met Sybil at a social event at the VFD Headquarters and it was love at first sight. They both enjoyed spending time together and soon became engaged. They had plans to start a family, which have unfortunately fallen through.
Enemy of LAUREN VALENTINE
Ava never liked the Daily Punctilio, but after the death of her wife, her dislike for the newspaper became a deep hatred. Her hatred in particular stems from Lauren’s article about Ava being a prime suspect.
Colleague of ADAM SEONG
Adam and Ava have a healthy respect for each other that has developed into a friendship. The two work well on cases together and sometimes get lunch or coffee to break up their long days at work.
Ava’s reputation was somewhat damaged after the death of her wife. At first, the media mourned with her, but they soon became skeptical and rumors had it that she was the one who murdered Sybil. Even after she was cleared by the police, people are still weary of her.
Ava moved into a new, smaller cottage by Lake Lachrymose after Sybil’s death as the penthouse felt too big and lonely.
Ava’s commonplace book is covered in notes surrounding Sybil’s secret work and mysterious death. She continues to investigate the death even though she was forbidden from looking into the case.
