Episode 1 ("Somewhere Safe"): Right after fighting the sea serpent, Suki and Katara have a heart to heart about the risks they are taking in guiding the refugees to a safer place. Suki playfully says that even the "monsters" (literally, in this case 🐍) they fight are "good" b/c it's all a part of the process of keeping people safe/helping them. Katara seems to agree and smiles/looks up when the word is mentioned. She finds it amusing and also true. It's worth the risk to fight monsters if it means helping people.

Episode 7 ("Something Broken"): After taking on the role of a vigilante, Katara faces the consequences of helping people (under a guise) by being locked up by the Dai Li with Zuko, who she perceives to be a "monster" (metaphorically, in this case 🎭). He's instantly hurt by being called this term, and Katara seemingly regrets it almost immediately. To be fair, she's speaking in anger and has every right to because Zuko keeps choosing to push people away and make "monstrous" decisions. Katara holds him accountable for his actions, as she should! She's fighting a metaphorical monster on behalf of all the people that's been hurt by the Fire Nation (and Zuko's family). Except this time, instead of physically fighting the "monster", she actually tries to understand him. She's sympathetic and compassionate, and so is Zuko. And of course, as we all know, he betrays her in the end. Instead of continuing to be a protector of the Painted Lady, he becomes the very monster he's supposed to be fighting (like in his fever dream).

It's the fact that we see Katara and Zuko learning the EXACT techniques they will eventually use to save each other in Book 3. The Agni Kai is going to be epic. I, personally, cannot wait!
