Au where Stone ends up in a full body cast instead of Robotnik after the 2nd movie (and Ivo takes care of him). Stone keeps thinking that he'll be abandoned because he is now useless but Ivo reassures him he's not~
Stone waking up just as the mech is exploding. Him seeing robotnik say his goodbye to a golden? Sonic and falling backwards. Stone determined to be useful (he has to be useful otherwise why would the doctor keep him, he's already failed too much since the doctor came back he has to prove he's worth keeping) jumps after the doctor to tackle him midair and manages to change their trajectory enough that when they hit the ground (him on bottom of course he has to protect the doctor) it's at an angle. He hits hard, doctor cradled in his hold as best stone can, and feels...what feels like everything snap before it all fades out in terrible agony.
He drifts off hoping he succeeded at least in preventing the doctor from serious injury and pleased to have served him for at least this long.
Stone briefly waking up to bright lights and frantic words, mumbled and jumbled too much to understand, and hands shaking and nervous while red eyes glow and watch on only to fall asleep once more.
Stone waking up again to find himself in darkness trapped in what feels like a plastor cast unable to move unable to talk eyes hurting to move and seeing his doctor watching him from a bedside chair before administering pain relief and sending Stone back under.
Those first few weeks just repeating that scene until his jaw can move a bit and he apologizes to wasting the doctor's time as best he can with an uncooperatrive tongue.
Robotnik looking so mad so enraged for a split second before just giving him another dose even as he tries to say he doesn't deserve it.
Stone drifting off before seeing robotnik chuck his chair at the wall enraged that his agent thinks he'd leave him after everything he did.

I thought they have Stone looking into project shadow more. Like I know the mention of the project in the after credit scene was to be like oh we have shadow next move but I thought with Stone overhearing about it he'd look into it.
Kinda thought Stone would be looking or have found shadow to use against Sonic under the manipulation of this fuck hurt the last robotnik you know the family of the people you loved most?
Definitely thought Gerald would have died by then to add further fuel to shadows desire for revenge.

Just some persephone and hades coded stobotnik shit under the cut
Stone being a young agent and full of life smiling such a pretty smile always smelling like flowers only imperfection the dirt he has stuck under his painted nails.
One of his first missions is in Greece and it goes to shit immediately. The other agents, older more experienced, present watch as this green barely graduated agent looks so at home among the carnage he's causing and yet still smiling so softly.
One agent to break the tension calling him persephone and Stone laughing and asking if that means he should be wary of pomegranates.
The name sticking throughout the years (the dirt long gone from his nails but followed by how easily he disappears in the foliage as if the trees themselves are hiding him, the scent of flowers faded but his victims can taste it as they draw their final breathes and he stands over them, that smile still so pretty and soft but uncanny in the dark).
Laughing every time a green agent gets dared to give him something pomegranate related and never accepting.
Walters seeing this unflappable agent and thinking maybe this is the kind of agent robotnik needs. Walters sending in the transfer orders and not thinking about it further.
The whispers of sorrow and worry that follow him as he packs his stuff and heads to the lab smile still place never failling.
The lab being dark and lonely and sad and the man inside just the same but better at hiding it (not really not to stone) and Stone deciding this place while dead and lifeless is still a garden of sorts and he's always been good in a garden.
Robotnik opening up to Stone, because while it's different Stone and him are the same in a way and robotnik has been desperate for someone to see the world like him even if he doesn't say it, and giving Stone a gift as thanks.
It's nail polish but more than that it's pomegranate red and Stone accepts it and spends his lunch break painting his nails in the new shade.
Years pass and gun tries to bring Stone back into the fold but he always returns to robotnik before long as if drawn as if trapped nails always that same shade.
And then the doctor vanishes and they try to erase him try to pretend he never was there. And Stone smiles and laughs and the lab deploys poison gas killing the scientists sent to steal his work with Stone watching breathing fine. The lab is empty and Stone is gone when they finally clear the fumes.
The doctor returns smelling of fungus yet no worse for wear and Stone is relieved. He stays by the other's side as he seeks the master emerald and stays even when it all goes wrong and the damned hedgehog throws them both to the ground. He stays by the other's side surrounded eating pomegranates as the doctor recovers and stays until he's thrown away left behind and forced to watch his love join the stars.
They don't talk about robotnik he's not real was never real but they mention Stone's name even less. Because mentioning his name gets his attention. He'll find you if you speak it and you don't want him finding you. Only Persephone is mentioned in the faintest of whispers as they watch the world fall to flowers and robots.
Whispering of the myth of the dread queen who was known before his love. Who was feared before his love stole him away. Who will be feared long after his love has been forgotten again.
And the world fills with the scent of pomegranates as it burns.

Villain Stone who wants revenge. Who so badly wants to make those furry brats pay for ruinging his life from the second they met. Who wants to bring his doctor's dream to life because it's all he has left of the man he loves.
But I also want stone to be terrified.
I want this man who had worked with robotnik for years who knows how smart and dangerous his love was to feel legitimate fear of these aliens because despite how "cute" or "innocent" they look they still didn't blink when sending a man do his death either by stranding on a world unknown to be habitable or by drowning in a toxic river.
I want Stone to consider himself so inadequate compared to the doctor and fearing that should he confront these things directly he will die without any chance.
I want Stone to take this fight from the back. Metal sonics to attack up front and distract while he's over here in the background planting bombs poisoning wells whatever.
I just want a villain Stone who after all this bullshit trauma with these aliens is too terrified to face them directly but still wants them to suffer.
And I want him taking the subtle background method to work.
After all team Sonic works best when the target is upfront and direct against them, like how both robotniks fought them.
But to do it from shadows? To have a big bright shiny distraction of metal Sonic invasion all the while things are falling apart from seemingly nothing? That would be hard to fight.
Just just the seen of the whole team weak injured pinned from an attack they never saw coming because they thought they already won and then there's a video of Stone (hands shaking even as he clasps them in front smirk showing teeth like a threat eyes desperately trying not to dart around stay focused on the camera their not near him they can't find him he'll ran once their dead just in case) wishing them a good death and that he hopes they scream.
if parks and rec was still being made they’d do a bit where ron swanson has to wear a pronouns name tag and it’d just be “???/???” And it’d cut to a talking head of him going
“I’ve been a fool all this time. It’s bad enough the government knows my name, but now they want to know my gender? So I’m not letting them know my preferred pronouns. As far as I’m concerned, no one in this building should refer to me at all.”

He tries to turn around and walk back into his office, but Leslie starts crying and saying Supportive Things about how proud she is to see him exploring his gender and immediately switches to they/them; she instructs Ben and Ann to do the same. Donna and Chris go for she/her, for different reasons.
Tom assures Ron that he will use only the slickest, coolest, dopest designer pronouns; he sweeps in the next day and announces that he's put together a powerpoint of the most stylish and fashionable neopronouns to come out of Milan this season. The powerpoint includes the scarf, cologne and sunglasses that pair best with each option. Jerry is the only one to attend this presentation, which leaves him even more Big Confused about the whole thing than he already was. In Jerry's efforts to clumsily be an ally, he keeps accidentally "misgendering" Ron four different times in four different ways in every interaction and apologizing elaborately for every single mistake, thereby inadvertently doing the best job out of any of them at fulfilling the brief.
Andy does not know what a pronoun is, but in the spirit of himbo helpfulness, he's made a list of Words that he knows Ron likes, such as "sandwich", "woodworking", and "bacon". (Ron snatches it, tears it up, throws it in the trash, and sets the trash basket on fire, and firmly instructs Andy to never again mention anything that Ron likes while inside a government building.)
April, of course, keeps using he/him until Ron calls her into his office to re-explain the strategy of Operation: Muddy The Waters, whereupon she blinks owlishly at him and says, "I mean, isn't that just what they'd expect you to do if you were trying to hide something from the government? If you exclude one pronoun, then they know that's the one you care about. You have to double-bluff them." Ron squints at her for a long moment and says flatly, "Hm. Go back to your desk." The camera stays on Ron watching her through his window as his voiceover says, "April is a valuable employee. I look forward to one day when she leaves this hellhole and uses her strategic genius and insider knowledge to tear down the government."
I hope that should Stone be in movie 4 (and I really hope they wouldn't toss him) that he is taking up robotniks mantle like he did in the prequil comic. That he, in his grief, is going to bring the doctor's perfect world to life in his honor even if he has to drag the rest of the world kicking and screaming and dying to do it.
I want a stone who mourns but remembers perfectly clear what robotnik would want done in his behalf and doesn't stray a step further.
I want a stone who while bitter at the tricolor freaks for leaving him behind to die in the cannon and accepts that it was robotniks choice and that he saved the world for Stone.
Therefore Stone will take what he has been given and he will crush those little brats with a maniacal laugh as homage to his love.
Because we've seen grief causing one to do things the dead wouldnt want, we've seen it causing one to hide themselves away, but what about grief where your dedicated to the persons memory and you follow their legacy?
I'm still not over one of Trump's lawyers going to court this past week to defend Trump's executive order against "gender ideology," only for the judge to ask very plainly for the lawyer to explain what gender ideology is and the Trump lawyer to respond "its whatever the president thinks and I'm loathe to speculate what exactly that could be" and the judge was like are you fucking kidding me you're a lawyer and you can't explain things your client has said to a judge???
Au where Gerald was smarter and not completely blinded by grief and when he sees that his grandson, the last of the robotniks beside him someone who was alone who is desperate for family in a way Maria never was (in a way that Maria would have been heartbroken had she known her cousins fate), has something going on with that assistant of his (his grandson is definitely fruity but the Greeks were somewhat too so as odd as he finds it he doesn't completely despise the idea) and realizes that it might interfere with his plans if he doesn't take it into account.
So he does.
He compliments and tolerates ivos clinginess while also trying to bring Stone into it. At first under the excuse of getting to know ivo better from the man that knows him best but then as a weird sorta supportive sorta judgemental relative would to their family members boyfriend when trying to make friends.
Stone is weirded out but ivo latches onto it because this is grandpappy liking Stone and Stone is his favorite human so that's a great sign right. Cue Gerald lowkey telling shadow to keep Stone close and safe because they need him to keep ivo on their side.
So when the crab floods shadow grabs Stone and takes him with to the robotniks and the four of them end up on the cannon.
Up for debate if robotnik would still wanna save the world if Stone was by his side instead of on it or if he would just wait long enough for shadow to be gone before telling Stone that maybe it's time for grandpappy to take a nap.

Au where a grieving Stone who thinks the love of his life is dead (he's not but shadow just ditched him at a hospital and it's taking time for robotnik to be healthy enough to leave so he can't come back immediately) manages to create dimensional travel to other universes to see if nothing else a version of his love alive and well.
And he does. He sees so many versions of robotnik (boom, x, modern, to name a few but also variations of them and others) and while he loves them because they are ivo they're not his ivo so he never takes it further than just talking to them, encouraging them, maybe helping a teenie bit with a scheme or two.
Unfortunately for Stone with the other eggs either coming from a universe where he doesn't exist, or never met Eggman Stone just doing this is enough to make a lot of them fall head over heels.
And he doesn't notice because he doesn't tend to stay in each universe for long periods of time. He keeps jumping from one to another and maybe back again but never there long enough for whatever Eggman is there to be direct enough for Stone to figure it out through his grief.
Cue when Stone eventually comes back to his home dimension with his robotnik finally recovered enough to find him their teary reunion is interrupted by like ten other Eggman who managed to track down Stone and want him to come back with them and are willing to fight about it.
Love virus au where robotnik was a little more aware of his own feelings and Stone's but was too scared to speak them out so he built an A.I. of himself where he could program all his feelings into it in the hopes of hearing and seeing a version of himself confess these emotions and mean them would give him the courage to do the same.
Unfortunately he had a contingency in place that when he went missing the first time (movie 1) the A.I. was kept seperate from anything that Stone would get because even robotnik was aware enough that if he went missing or science forbid actually die the last thing Stone needed was a fake version of him confessing and instead quarantined to the mainframe of another base.
And double unfortunate that after Sonic 2 robotnik didn't have enough alone time from Stone to find said A.I. so it continued to languish and slowly corrupt.
All that to say when Stone grieving and pathetic shows up at a base he halfway remembers robotnik having in the area he is completely taken off guard by the smitten A.I. running the place. Taken off guard enough he doesn't notice it turning the base from a safe hideaway to a glided cage until its too late.
And now that it's sure it's precious gem is kept safe....well robotnik always did like the idea of giving Stone an empire.

More on that little westobotnik end of the world story we seem to be crafting
Robotnik and wesker granting all the luxury they can to Stone when they finally get him out of the wastelands and they expect him to immediately go back to the agent they had before who followed them with stars in his eyes and a yes on his lips to any request of theirs. Afterall surely their puppy of an agent just went a little feral because of having to be a lost stray so now that he's back with them he'll revert back no issue right? Just a day or two to adjust back and everything will be perfect.
Of course this is the denial talking.
Stone accepts the luxury with grace but then once it's done and he's "settled" they watch as he just exists in their presence. His eyes no longer sparkle like they used merely following them in a disinterested haze. When spoken too he answers not clipped or rude but simple and emotionless. He follows their requests but there's no care to it anymore he's just a dog following orders knowing it's only a matter of time before he's sent back outside for good.

I can't stop thinking about this omg 💔 this is so good but so sad 😭 the two supervillains just can't understand what's wrong with their agent. what if they run him thru physical tests with no explanation, making him run the gauntlet. He must be sick, it must be a mutation of the virus.
Stone does what they tell him without question, but he thinks it's because he's never good enough for them, he's waiting for the moment he will eventually be abandoned again. It's not a sickness, it's heartbreak.
Ughhh when will they come to understand each other 😭 wesker and robotnik are so dumb they do not pick up on what stone is going thru
Honestly I was worried it didn't send there was some weird lag but I couldn't remember enough of what I typed to try again.
And yessssss Stone taking whatever test they put him through as just further proof he's not what they want that he's still not what they want he'll never be what they want so he waits and he waits and finally maybe he's just that tired or maybe he wants to bite back for once but he asks wesker (he can't ask the doctor he can't that hurts too much at least there's a little disconnect with wesker) when they'll have enough data and he'll be sent away again.
Wesker surprised but putting to use what little social abilities he has to use he asks what Stone means (subtle he has to be subtle their puppy has been so skiddish) only for Stone to laugh it all off with something sounding deader than the world outside and telling wesker playing stupid is unbecoming.
Aaaah 💖 I like the idea that stone can't bring himself to approach robotnik directly, there's too much history, too much mess and pain 💔 it makes sense he'll go to wesker instead.
We need to write this fic for real I need it so bad😭
Aaaa that last part knocked me outttt I love it wesker likening stone to their skittish puppy brought home from the pound.
Wesker's brow furrowed and he cocked his head to the side in confusion. "Sent away... I don't follow. What-" he paused, making an effort to keep his voice level and without suspicion. "What exactly do you mean by that?"
Stone laughed, hollow to the core. "Playing stupid doesn't suit you. Sir." He added flatly after a beat.
For a moment Wesker thought Robotnik had lied to him, lied to Stone and felt premature fury rising. No, no, there must be some misunderstanding, it was all Ivo's idea in the first place. What the hell was Stone talking about? Wesker frowned, growing more frustrated. All this work he'd done to harness Stone's loyalty, all this space given and resources spent, Stone should have had well enough time to adjust. No answers from their exhaustive testing...and still there was something very wrong.
To just come out and say it. They're scientists. They're curious by nature. It makes sense they want to study how their former experiment has been behaving in this new extreme environment they've created. To release but study from afar and see how he reacts.
He could accept it.
It hurt. It burned some days to know nothing he allowed them to do was enough to keep him. But he understood. He understood so he played by their rules. He survived. He survived and survived.
And survived
and survived....
And he thought....he thought maybe when they found him with the rest of the failures... When they stepped before him badniks glowing in the light and the darkness wesker keeps close out to loom...he thought maybe it was over.
That the testing was done.
That they got the data they needed. That the experiemnt...that he....was coming to an end. That they were there to clean up.
He understood.
He's always understood so he didn't fight.
He just closed his eyes, so tired from the colors that he's still not used to, bowed his head and waited for the end.
But instead...instead they bring him back.
Back to the lab, bright and beautiful and clean so fucking clean he missed everything looking whole, to get a new baseline.
Oh sure they fed him and dressed him in nice things and didn't argue him just laying on the bed but it doesn't change what they really wanted.
And he's tired. He's tired because he knows once the final test is done they're just going to send him back out there. Alone. All alone fucking again so he can survive and they can study. And he...
He...
He doesn't want to.
He understands. He does. But he's tired. He's so tired and it's not fair and he was human once. Not anymore, they saw to that, but he was once. And his mind still likes to pretend to be one.
So yes, he'd like them to stop playing stupid. To stop pretending they brought him back inside because they missed him. To stop pretending he's ever been anything other than a passing fancy to them. To....to just stop.
Because the sooner they do....the sooner he can rest...and maybe...if he's allowed to dream...maybe there he can believe their lies.
