Six months ago, we launched our site. It was small, a few bugs here and there, but people liked it. Some of them stuck around, giving feedback and encouragement, and six months on, we’re proud to show it to you once more!

Developed solo over the course of six months, Waterfall is built from the ground up to provide a familiar, functional experience, focusing on creators and community, taking all the good bits from Tumblr and making them worth using, quickly becoming the fastest growing alternative over the last six months!

Waterfall is easy to use if you just want to blog and share neat stuff. If you’re an artist, Waterfall features a constantly evolving system to ensure that you’ll be credited for your work. If you upload art, and someone tries to upload it later? It’s automatically converted into a reblog of your original post. Someone steals it anyway, or you see something that breaks the rules? Don’t worry - all reports are manually reviewed, with an average response time so far of less than six hours from report to the content or blog being removed.

Perhaps most importantly, there’s no company behind Waterfall - it’s fully independent, with no shareholders to please. Just one guy and a couple volunteers keeping an eye on the content. This means no ads all over the place, and no decisions made to sell anything to you. Every single core feature of Waterfall is free, and will be forever, and we’ll never monetise your stuff.

The site is still in development, but we already have a ton of the most important features you could want!

Reblogs!

Sideblogs! Want to keep content seperate? Each has their own follows and likes list. You can also send asks from them instead of your main blog!

Have a blog dedicated to a certain focus as your main that you’ve gotten bored with? It’s easy to switch your main blog to another.

Works on mobile! The browser version has very few issues on mobile, and a dedicated app is under development.

Dashboard skins! Don’t like our colour scheme? Pick a different one. More are on the way, and you’ll soon be able to create your own.

Prevent personal posts from being reblogged just by adding a simple tag (#dnr or #do not reblog)!

Blocking! The system is constantly iterated on as workarounds are found.

Worried the staff aren’t active and don’t know what’s going on? Let’s put that to rest.

A community Discord! Find blogs, report bugs, and get help directly from the staff.

Manual report reviews! Your salad won’t be flagged for nudity.

Active staff and development team! Reports are usually reviewed and acted on in less than 6 hours hours, and bugs are fixed within an average of 36 hours from report to resolution. Patch notes are transparent on what’s fixed, and the kind of reports we get are published every quarter (the latest one is here!)

Commission marketplace! Currently being tested amongst a handful of volunteer artists, you’ll be able to use us to find customers and, optionally, protection against scammers.

Frequent Images! Have a sprite or meme you use a lot? No need to keep reuploading it, the post editor will keep it handy for you.

Comments and drafts!

Queue overhaul! Don’t just post once per hour, control it down to the minute.

Pools! Follow an entire topic instead of just a blog.

Blog Themes! Select users are trying out the beta now.

Polls! No need to link to strawpoll anymore, it’ll be built in to the site.

Like I thought I was just acquaintances with this person because they never told me details about themselves and we just talked movies and writing . But then they made time to have coffee with me and they showed up out of breath because they ran. Like. RAN to be on time for coffee with me?

And I was like “i don’t mind waiting” cause I never want to run

But they said they wanted every minute they could get because I’m so busy usually

Which is when it clicked that I didn’t get how much they considered me a friend because I just straight away didn’t see MY signs of affection in them and went “cool! Casual buds it is.” But now that I’m seeing their signs of affection, I feel a little silly for dismissing them like that even though I felt like we could be best bros.

TOUCH got a bro that likes to give high fives? Back slaps? Are they a hugger? Do they not blink an eye at cuddles?

QUALITY TIME this bro will (as op stated) sprint to spend every minute possible with you. Every second that you guys are together is a declaration of affection.

WORDS does your bro tell you how amazing and great and fantastic and wonderful you are all the time? Guess what…?

GIFTS do they buy you coffee? Snacks, energy drinks, spot you at the restaurant? Did that one key chain remind them of you? Ding ding!

ACTS are they always doing things for you? Ie: Nah bro, I got this, I can do that, need me to get anything for you, I can help with…?

Doing stupid or clumsy things because you forgot to pay attention to the real world again; walked into doors, burned your food, maybe ran a red light…

When someone is having feelings in your vicinity, you are having those feelings right along with them, even if you don’t know them or why they’re upset

Myers briggs is too often used to stereotype people, put them in boxes, and dismiss them as always having a certain set of strengths and weaknesses.

Despite their cognitive functions, people have the ability to work on their strengths and weaknesses. So if you meet someone of a certain type, it’s not a given that they’re going to be amazing at X but have the terrible flaw of Y.

Michael Pierce says something really important to consider at the start of all of his videos; “I aim to describe the core of this type’s profile as an individual just as capable or incapable of becoming a hero of the history books as any other personality”. He emphasizes that you can’t judge someone’s character based on their type, you can only understand how they think. Situations that people are in, personal experiences, and even other genetic psychological factors make all the difference in the world.

A common misconception with MBTI is that people of the same type must have the same personalities and behave in the same way. MBTI describes thought process, not personality. The only thing people of the same type must share is the same cognitive function stack; but even then, they may use their functions in slightly differing ways. 

To show just how different people of the same type can be, we decided to use our ENFP friends as an example.

Dear Tumblr, this is a special operation. We are going to purge the porn bots that follow us. 

Porn bots often have real looking usernames. The reason for this is because those usernames once belonged to real users. Bots hijack usernames as soon as it becomes available (Usernames become available if you change your username or delete your blog). They do this because the username (domain name) has more ‘authority’ than a complete new username. Porn bots rank higher in Google and other search engines because of this higher authority. It also makes them look more real.

But don’t be deceived. Let’s purge those bots! 

How to tell if a blog is a bot:

First go see who follows you on Tumblr. 

A blog is a porn bot when:

their profile picture is ‘sexy’ (and sometimes their username and description are the same)

They have links on their blog (if they follow you and have links: 10000% bot)

*Do not report empty blogs. There is nothing to report them for and chances are they are normal users that don’t use Tumblr after they created an account. 

How to purge a porn bot

Desktop

Go to their blog

Click on the pawn/human icon

Click ‘Report’ –> ‘Report spam’ (do not report for sensitive content; porn is allowed on Tumblr)

Click ‘Flag & Block’

Mobile App

Go to their blog

Tap the pawn/human icon

Tap ‘report‘

‘Report spam‘

Please, report all the porn bots that follow you. Please reblog this post a few times until September 10! We need to act quickly, because chances are, bot owners will stumble upon this post and then start to mass unfollow or mass delete all the posts on their blog so we can’t identify them, only to start again when the coast is clear. Going through your followers and reporting the bots only takes five minutes and it’s going to have such a positive impact on the community. Your help is greatly appreciated! Let us all UNITE.
