I've been thinking about this and uh... if Jax secretly wanted to be a girl, then why doesn’t he react at all to being called "Jaxy boy" by Gangle, "Bunny boy" by Zooble and "Evil bro" by Pomni?
We see his mask break briefly when he thinks about Kaufmo's funeral, Kaufmo and Ribbit, and when Ragatha talks about him corrupting Pomni
Another way to communicate he's transfem is making him jealous of seeing Pomni for the first time because she spawned as a feminine character. Have Pomni bump into Jax like in the original pilot, but then make him walk away angrily and show him observing her from a distance with a scowl on his face, unlike the other characters, (including Kinger, let's not forget him), who'd be welcoming. I think this is a good way to establish that Jax is different from the others in some way (with the later reveal that both he and Pomni are mcs now making more sense)
Other rewrite suggestions:
Add a tiny pair of eyelashes to Jax’s design (I got this idea because I remembered the design of Usopp from One Piece and then I remembered TADC ep 5 where Jax is implied to enjoy anime) but keep his male-sounding voice (bonus points if he's also voiced by a trans woman, but I don't think this is necessary, since him being voiced by a cis man could reflect the expectations Jax’s parents put on him to be a man). This way, the design communicates that he's a woman deep down (eyes = windows to the soul) who's been forced to sound like a man. The eyelashes would also solve the "every person's character design shows who they really are no matter how much they try to hide it" issue I have with Jax's design. Because purple and red being "feminine-coded" colors is stereotypical. And here's the thing I've just noticed: Jax's head IS shaped like an egg, especially with his head being yellow like yolk when his skin is peeled off. But like... how did Caine understand this metaphor and create Jax's avatar this way because he's "an egg"
Have Jax's torture scene be him getting his "bunny suit" peeled off along with the eyelashes, only to reveal a pair of eyelashes still present underneath. The message becomes that he can't escape who he is no matter how much he tries to hide it
Don't make merch or joke about his gender dysphoria. Treat this topic with sensitivity and respect, especially if you wanted the show's finale to air during pride month AND have the closeted trans character commit suicide
Make Leeroy, Jax’s human counterpart, a woman. Or put "she/her" on his profile page. Or slap a trans flag on there somewhere
I wouldn't include the bow on Jax's mural because I'm not a fan of objects being gendered (pink is for girls blue is for boys... nah)
Paint Jax's regular face (with the still present eyelashes, ofc) and have the others go from he/him to she/her after Jax tells Pomni before his death that he's sorry for everything and how she wants to be remembered as the girl she always wanted to be
Do NOT, and I repeat not NOT keep the abstracted characters as animals/fish in an aquarium to be admired by the still alive (lucid) characters. That's dehumanising. Have Caine either delete them all, including Jax, or put them in the cellar as a metaphorical burial ceremony. I don't want the trans character or anyone else to be treated like zoo animals especially bc Goose said how the idea was for abstraction to be a metaphor for suicide. She said that outside the show btw... sigh.
No edit/montage of Jax right before her death. Let her honestly talk to Pomni instead about herself, her feelings, likes, dislikes. And don't make all of them "feminine"! If you must put a song in, don't use Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely" because 1) No, she isn't, and the audience shouldn't be gaslit that she ever was despite her trauma 2) This is a song that a black man composed when his black daughter was born. Using the cover of a non-black man and putting it in the context of a "rebirth as a woman" (which in canon changes nothing abt Jax or Leeroy, neither are explicitly trans after it) scene doesn't sit right with me, especially since the finale aired on Juneteenth
Ribbit doesn't have to put her bow on Jax's head to symbolize transness because the audience would have already picked up on it long ago
Have Jax explicitly say smth like this to Ribbit: "The deep, personal thing I told my mom... was that I never felt like a man at all." The word trans doesn't have to be explicitly uttered, but you should still make it clear
Have a funeral for Jax where all of her victims talk about her and her mistakes and how much she's hurt them. That would give Jax's victims closure + screen time and not make it seem like this entire movie was all about Jax and no one else
Make the ending somber at first, then happier as the cast learns to move on from Jax's recent death and find closure. Don't make the circus instantly return its colors as soon as Jax explodes in white light (dies). I don't like what that implies
Man, it would be so cool NOT to turn Jax into a stereotypical, girly, misunderstood, innocent (Trans) Girl ™ Like get this woman out of this show her character's been destroyed too
And please Gooseworx, don't post a confirmation where Jax says how Ribbit and Pomni should f*ck each other's brains out after saying how transitioning would have fixed her. No, it wouldn't have fixed her. Imagine if, instead, Jax doesn't die while having a panic attack and instead learns to love herself, even the male voice Caine gave her, because it was all a part of her all along. That would also tie in with Jax being jealous of how Zooble could learn to accept all of themselves back in episode 7
I actually want ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about Jax to change on the outside (her appearance will stay the same from the beginning of the show until the end, her eyelashes will remain and so will her voice) because all she ever needed to do was learn to accept, forgive and love herself for who she was on the inside in spite of the abuse she's gone through, the guilt she always felt for driving Ribbit and Kaufmo to abstraction (suicide) because of her own personal issues and potentially killing her mother after she reacted badly to Jax coming out to her! The scene where Jax is just standing there with his clothes constantly changing (there's even one where Jax looks like a static TV screen which I interpret as him feeling empty on the inside, like he feels disconnected from the world and his own body/self) would then send the message that she could have been ALL of those parts of herself (the masculine, the feminine, and the in-between) all while living authentically as a girl
When Jax said "There's nothing more to me" and then we see that he has a yolk-like humanoid body underneath, I interpret how he thought that all that "Jax" was was the girl he tried so hard not to be and shame tied to everything he's ever done and is
But if you know who you are and were (even if it was someone who wasn't a good person) and fully embrace both, then no outside physical "stagnation" can take that away from you, and you can finally grow, make amends and move forward. But Jax realized all that too late
What just hit me is that Jax's arc has pieces of Pomni's (feeling like nothing), Ragatha's (having an abusive mother), Gangle's (masking), Zooble's (body dysmorphia), Kinger's (losing someone you loved) and Caine's (wanting to be loved) there's also the fact jax is "the funny one but not really" like kaufmo and comes from a conservative family like ribbit and the culmination of her story was, to me, supposed to be learning to integrate all of them into one "you" at least for a short while... except that TADC didn't go that deep. The show just gave us a TikTok montage and called it a day
Everyone in the cast who isn't Jax should have gotten their own fully fleshed-out arc before the finale btw
Jax failed to live as a whole person and died without getting the chance to put the life advice the others gave to each other into practice, but all the other characters/survivors, all the other "pieces" can still come together as a group and create one whole that Jax no longer has a chance to be within herself
Imagine if everyone (after their character developments that happened in earlier episodes) had gone inside Jax's mind to try to save her. Zooble did say Jax was still one of them in ep 8, and Pomni knew she might not be there later in the same ep. Then Jax could have finally learned to accept all of herself (Pomni is hope, Zooble is acceptance of identity, Gangle is emotional honesty, Kinger is grief, Ragatha is (self) compassion. Together, they "reconstruct"Jax as a whole person)
Meanwhile, in the void, Caine (who I think tadc wanted to parallel Jax) would be having a moment of realization that he did many horrible things and instead of pulling the Blue AI out of his head, he'd learn to accept himself as a whole being just like Jax, and once he rejoins the group, he'd stay the same, just more considerate of others and less selfish
Jax is a terrible transfem representation. There, I said it. Just to be clear, if you relate to Jax and find joy or comfort in her story, more power to you 👍 I don't want to take that feeling away from you. Now...
Let's address the elephant in the room first. Femininity doesn't equal womanhood. A bow, a cute "girly" room, a "feminine" color scheme (purple and pinkish-red), liking dresses and wearing an eyeliner (god I hate the maid dress sm but I'll talk abt that later, but I've just noticed how it has a heart-shaped pattern on the chest area so... heart = girl?) and the final scene between Jax and Pomni having a pink hue to it are just not it, Goose.
Being a woman has to do with how you feel on the inside, not how feminine you are. I hate that Jax is flattened into either this "girly cutie pie" or a hottie by the fanbase now that we know she's trans, when she's a frickin mess of a character, full of self-blame and self-hatred that doesn't only have to do with her gender identity
I don't think it's illogical to say Jax had mommy and daddy issues even before she discovered her gender identity. When it comes to how Jax feels about Kaufmo and Ribbit's abstraction... well, I'd rather have her feel immense guilt because she genuinely cared for them both despite everything (I want Jax to be more than her transness and selfishness!), than for THIS to be her train of thought: "My friends are dead because I'm a girl! I couldn't accept it then, and I can't accept it now! It was all my fault because I'M A GIRL! Me being a girl is not only the main thing "wrong" with me, but also the root cause of all my problems!"
Transition wouldn't have fixed Jax because what she really needed to get better were self-acceptance, self-forgiveness and self-love. That's why I want to put the whole cast in Jax's mind in my rewrite. She needed them all to become whole, even briefly, before death
I want Jax to be a complex, fucked up woman with real depth and a capacity for change that she never took, not a hypersexualized, hyperfeminine trans girl. A woman is a woman regardless of her appearance, voice or interests because she knows deep down she is one! Jax's problems were deep and internal, yeah, but imo, her main issue was her belief that every part of her (including her mistakes) was wrong and unloveable. Jax spent the entire show fragmented instead of whole, meanwhile the others managed to overcome their issues. That's why I think it would be a good idea to have Pomni, Ragatha, Gangle, Zooble and Kinger all try to help Jax one last time so she can finally accept and forgive herself
And as we can see from Goose's confirmation post, Jax would have still kept thinking inappropriate things had she transitioned i dont think it's even possible to have your avatar permanently altered and your voice changed in the circus but ok ("I think my 2 friends who I've mistreated in canon are destined to fuck each others' brains out"). Not to mention her design is hyperfeminine and doesn't fit TADC's vibe. That's not Jax. She looks like Octavia from Helluva Boss
The fact that Glitch is profiting off of a trans character being deeply uncomfortable with wearing a sexualized, hyper-feminine maid dress out in public (that was only meant to humiliate them and be the creator's kink) to the point they seemed like they were close to abstracting is uh... certainly a choice. And not a good one. If Jax was just an average Joe with toxic masculinity, I still wouldn't like it, but Jax being a trans woman makes this whole thing even worse
Why do these two scenes have to parallel???
When I first watched Episode 7, I didn't even notice the trans flag colors in Jax's eyes, and when I eventually did, I just assumed it was an Easter Egg that Gooseworx put in there because she's trans
The same goes for the "chicken fetus in an egg" line. I genuinely thought Goose used that specific wording not because Jax himself was trans but because Goose thought to herself: "Yeah, I wanna showcase that Jax is more than a jerk and the funny guy, but I'll use this trans term because I'm trans myself and this is gonna be a fun Easter Egg haha"
I mean, if feeling like a girl was apparently always the biggest aspect of Jax's character, why be so vague about it? Most people aren't familiar with "the egg" referring to closeted trans people or trans people in denial! It feels like Goose just wrote this show for herself and didn't stop to think that hey, maybe my audience won't pick up on this stuff unless I'm more explicit about it, especially since there are a lot of kids in the TADC fandom
And of course, there's Jax's head being shaped like an egg and us only seeing the "yolk" underneath in ep 8
Goose, you've gotta get it into your head that many people are unfamiliar with what any of this stuff even means. That includes boymoding
No, Jax isn't fucking lovely, she's a terrible, selfish and cowardly person, and the audience shouldn't be gaslit that she was ever lovely despite her trauma. Not to mention Jax literally called herself a terrible person like a few lines before that. And if the montage was meant to say "Jax could have been lovely if only she had gotten to live openly as a woman," uh... nope. Jax needed to sort so many internal things out first. Transition doesn't magically fix things
"Isn't She Lovely?" is a song that a Black man sang to his Black daughter when she was born. Using the cover of a non-black man and putting it in the context of a "rebirth as a woman" (which in canon changes nothing abt Jax or Leeroy, neither are explicitly revealed to be trans after it) scene doesn't sit right with me, especially since the finale aired on Juneteenth and Gooseworx is racist, just like some of the VA's. I will never forget the "NEGA" situation where Michael and Ashley laughed for a long ass time because someone posted a pic of a black shirt during a livestream with the word "NEGA" written on it in white letters
I hate that we never get to hear Jax talk about what she actually likes and dislikes. Does she genuinely love guns (according to ep 6) and safaris (according to ep 5)? If fans REALLY wanna remember Jax fondly, why does it have to be JUST as "the trans girl"? Why don't we learn a single thing about Jax aside from her being trans, which was confirmed on Bluesky??? This girl never tells us anything about her interests or... anything, really. We just get a tone-deaf TikTok montage and KABOOM! she's gone. Reduced to atoms. Okay, Goose. Go off.
”you say Jax is bad Transfem rep cus your a misogynist and want trans women to be perfect!” No. I say Jax is bad Transfem rep because I don’t want my trans sisters to be depicted as abusive and predatory towards women when that’s the EXACT narrative used to justify anti-trans laws. But no I’M clearly the bigot here and no the raging self admitted misogynist and racist who made the show in the first place

“But Jax lost someone close to-” So, did Kinger (and the others implied as well)
“But Jax was suicida-” So, was Gangle
“But Jax was trans and suffers from body imag-“” So, did Zooble
“But Jax had an abusive mo-“ So, did Ragatha
Trauma can explain but does not justify being an abuser. All these characters dealt with similar shit and never made it anyone’s problem by hurting others. Stop defending Jax over the choices the character did not have to make.
reblog to give a trans woman a yummy burger
glad i reached my target audience of ppl showing love to their trans gfs/wives through the power of burger
okay so since making this post i've become the target audience
so Many people are dumbing down jax to “trans girl” and acting as if her only violation was being trans and not embracing herself sooner. yes it’s a tragedy but she didnt only harm herself… she abused everyone else … the whole time. all the time. constantly. like i feel like some of you guys didn’t watch the show.
what i never understand with "misunderstood characters" is that.
they're literally never misunderstood. people try to help and understand them all the time. they just usually don't want that.
that's not being misunderstood, that's being difficult bc you wanna be broody and edgy and sad to justify making everyone else's life difficult on purpose.
the only characters i've seen that are misunderstood are women that don't fit into the mold sexist people ( commonly men ) want them to fit, disabled characters, and genuinely kind-hearted characters who are somehow always believed to have ulterior motives.
but the ones that are claimed to be "misunderstood"? we get it. the other characters get it. you're not misunderstood, you just refuse to help yourself and make it everyone else's problem.

Notice how the only man who is completely nice and doesn't harm any of the women or have any malicious intention towards them is immediately killed in his debute episode, gets lobotomized and only used properly for 2 episodes before getting completely forgotten both by the fans and the show...

I only have a week to make my goal anything helps!
i could still really use the help!!
As a suicidal person I care about Gangle's mental health more than Jax's and I always will. Sorry not sorry
Sincerely, saying you hope you die on a TADC comment section is a very ineffective cry for help. You will die, someday, whether you like it or not or want to or don’t. You should disengage from things you don’t like and invest your limited time on Earth in things that you do, even if you have to try a lot of different things to find anything good. No one ever got happier arguing about TADC.
what?
i hate the way fat antagonists have their weight moralized and used as a metaphor for greed and corruption and i hate the way it's overcorrected into fat people being "soft squishy friend-shaped cupcakes who look like they give incredible hugs" and i long for the day we have nuanced, interesting, and complicated fat characters and most of all i long for the day people are normal about fatness

"It doesn't help your credibility to exaggerate, most employers wouldn't literally work you to death" like, I used to work in distribution. If booking a truck driver for back to back shifts until they fall asleep at the wheel, crash, and die counts as being worked to death, I have personally met employers who've worked employees to death and gotten away with a slap on the wrist. It may not be universal, but it's a hell of a lot more common than a lot of us would prefer to think.
Death by spreadsheet is an acceptable degree of separation for most in middle management. They can sleep at night without guilt for what they've done, because the system charitably setup twelve degrees of separation between their choices and the real-world harm. But do not be fooled, their choices set that harm into motion. Without their reckless disregard for human life, the harm would not be done.
I used to work at a TV station in Ohio. On weekends, we only had an 11pm news broadcast. Not much happened on weekends, ya know? I worked Monday-Friday 9-5, but someone on the weekend shift quit, so I also had to come in at 9pm on Sat/Sun to work the 11pm news. It was brutal. I worked seven days a week, even if two of them were ~3hrs.
This was a particularly bad winter. One Saturday, we had a level 2 snow emergency: That means you should only travel if you absolutely must. Like, it's not uncommon for cops to pull you over in level 2 emergencies to ask where you're going and why. It is genuinely dangerous to drive in that much snow.
I told my boss as much, how I almost crashed on the way home at 12:30am after a news broadcast. I told him I would need to call off if there were a snow emergency again during a night snow.
He told me, point blank, "If you ever call me about the goddamn snow, I will take it as a call of resignation."
And that was that! The very next Saturday, snow fell again. It was a level 2, but would become level 3 by sunup. Level 3 means driving is literally illegal except for ambulances and snow plows. I stared out the window, watching the snow, and I had to make a choice.
"Will I die for this? Will I kill myself to keep this job?" I made $11/hr.
Yes, managers work you to death. That's their job.
Every single labor protection is written in the blood of those who were literally worked to death, and business owners and profiteers would claw those protections back with glee if they could. They will squeeze every red cent from your body if they are allowed, and write off your death for an insurance payout that they'll try to pocket for themselves while hiring your replacement for half the pay they gave to you.
i KNEW someone was gonna make this joke about jax and like. i love y’all. your heart is in the right place. She doesn’t apply I’M SORRY TRANSFEMS DESERVE WELL WRITTEN REP
