"You're not supposed to feel bad for Jax, her backstory is just an explanation for her behavior, not an excuse!"
Meanwhile the framing in the show:
Aww, look at her! Isn't she an adorable girl? Get out of here
Feel sympathy for Jax even though she hurt the person who's hugging her right now (who, mind you, almost died in Jax's arms). Don't have Pomni call Jax out on her bullshit and hug her instead while they both cry. Will Jax show genuine remorse for the things she's done? No. Will Jax get consequences for her actions (death isn't one)? No. Will Jax get a redemption arc? No. Is Jax a well written cautionary tale? No because her story isn't framed as one despite the intent. Will Jax mention any of her victims? Say how much she wishes she had made different choices? Apologize for anything? No, no and no!
Amanda's comment doesn't help either
No wonder people associate Jax with just her transness, draw her like this girly girl and forget the other characters (Jax's victims)
These lines all sound the same 😐
Dear Gooseworx, Jax's choices, not her transness, made her a huge piece of shit.
Jax is a walking talking stereotype.
hypersexualized (the maid outfit. Like, this thing isn't just Goose's private kink, noooo. It shows up in the show multiple times and Glitch makes a lotta cash out of Jax's discomfort)
hyperfeminine (fans usually draw her that way thanks to the bow scene + "Isn't She Lovely?" I don't blame them for portraying Jax as this girly girl because Gooseworx seems to view her that way too. Yeah, and we also have Jax's "canon" transfem look)
violent, abusive and dangerous towards cis women (Gangle and Ragatha, I'm looking at you. But we also have Zooble and Ribbit, a non-binary person and a demigirl. Jax treated Pomni like shit too. She even insulted Kinger back in the pilot and bullied Kaufmo, but we see Jax mostly targeting female or female-presenting characters)
her womanhood is mostly portrayed through stereotypically "feminine" things and colors (specifically, Jax having a purple + pinkish-red color scheme, the bow, the maid dress, her "girly" room, the PINK hue at the end of Jax's life when she "comes out" thanks to "Isn't She Lovely?" contrasted with the night sky being BLUE back in ep 5 when she said how her ears and tail are a pinnacle of masculinity)
has no redeeming qualities (no, seriously. I can't name a single kind, heroic or selfless thing Jax has done. Even Goose called her irredeemable. Honestly, I don't think that only has to do with Jax not wanting to put in the effort to become a better person or at least apologize ONCE, but also with her genuinely having 0 positive personality traits. It's sad. Jax sexually assaulted Gangle in her mind and blackmailed her in the circus more than once. She had keys to everyone's room and gave them no privacy, she figured out Gangle's kinks and private stuff and decided to use that against her. Her behavior drove Ribbit to suicide and she kept mistreating people severely even after finding out about what abstraction is. EVERY TIME, it's her feeling safe and in control > her being a decent person. Jax also contributed to Kaufmo's abstraction. Jax is violent, a cowardly loser, sarcastic in a cruel way, a bully, a liar (her design literally screams "this character is always lying through their teeth"), a person who physically, verbally and mentally abused others, someone who was not only transphobic towards Zooble both in the circus and inside her mind, but has also made fun of him for not being straight and being associated with "queer and gay" things, aka being a bartender and tattoo artist, and someone who was canonically misogynistic both inside and outside the show... you get the idea. Jax never approaches Gangle and tries to make up for the things she's done. She'd rather abstract than live with herself. She's selfish, has extremely low empathy, and we don't even see her do anything nice to anyone. The closest thing to Jax doing a kind deed is when she told Ribbit "I'm glad that I could cheer you up," but: 1) we don't even know how she did it 2) it happened off-screen and 3) based on her and Ribbit's interactions, what I assume happened was that Jax was simply being chaotic that day, so yeah, no sacrifices were made. As long as Jax is in control, it's all good)
we don't know much about jax's human counterpart (All we know is that Leeroy rented an apartment with a friend, got a stable job, pays rent, hangs out with her friends and goes to Riley's queer bar with them. Just because she saluted at her mom (?) while wearing a mailman outfit and has friends doesn't guarantee Leeroy's a good person. And even if she was, she wasn't the one we've been following all this time. Jax is. And Jax is dead. We've also got the "Bury Your Gays" trope here! Woohoo! Not only that, but Lee still boymodes and hasn't transitioned in any way! We don't even see a trans flag on her Instagram profile! And everyone else got a sickly sweet, perfect ending! Everyone except the trans girl who still isn't out of the closet! And when that trans girl's circus counterpart died, the colors were immediately shown to have come back! I'm not denying it's because Caine returned, but the implication is still there, y'know. And THEN! Then, Jax's "living corpse"/corrupted file was put inside a tent doghouse instead of giving it a proper burial, or deleting it and the other abstractions permanently. The suicidal trans character committed suicide during Pride Month, nobody learned anything from her death and, the way things were framed, moved on quickly. No funeral or a proper goodbye scene between the gang and Jax's corpse. Things... things indeed got better as soon as the problematic person was gone, huh. If Jax was still around, y'all wouldn't be able to have your perfect therapy talk ending. Also it feels like Jax's abstraction was given special treatment compared to other abstractions, not to mention that pic of abstracted Jax and Pomni that Glitch posted. Heck no, Jax was a horrible person, show us Kinger and abstracted Queenie instead please. I also don't believe that Pomni would just let Jax walk away after she saw her try to reach out to her. She told Jax "Be here later" and Zooble told her "Hey. That includes you, too. Listen, we're not gonna have you wandering off alone somewhere and abstracting, or something. You're a pain in the ass, but... you're still one of us." Whatever happened to that. It's been days ever since the brain scan reveal guys, y'all had the time to process the shock from that revelation. The only conclusion I can come to is that Jax's safety wasn’t your priority. And Jax... was suicidal. Pomni knew. But walked away from her anyway)

I've heard some people say "Isn't She Lovely?" is meant to convey how Jax could have been lovely if she had accepted herself and gotten the chance to live as a girl. I call bs. No, Jax wouldn't have been lovely then either because transitioning and accepting yourself doesn't magically erase the years of abuse others went through because of you
I wanna share my thoughts on every transfem Jax hint that I found in this one comment section on TikTok:
"Jax wearing the maid outfit and getting embarrassed, but saying in her head she likes it in the promos"
I've already talked about my issues with the maid dress, but I'll repeat them: The fact that Glitch is profiting off of a trans character being deeply uncomfortable with wearing a sexualized, hyper-feminine maid dress out in public (that was only meant to humiliate them and be the creator's kink) to the point that it seemed like they were on their way to abstract is NOT a good thing. If Jax was just an average Joe with toxic masculinity, I still wouldn't like it, but Jax being a trans woman makes this whole thing even worse
Why would you do this to your transfem character? Jax is not only poorly written, but also treated poorly by both Glitch and Goose
Also, 1) Can't men like dresses and still be men? and 2) Aren't the promos non-canon? If they're somehow canon, why do we need to look outside the main show for clues/answers, not only on Twitter, Bluesky and Tumblr, but apparently in PROMOS TOO?!
"Bonus art of Jax saying she takes progesterone"
These doodles? That's artwork shown outside the show. It could have also been a callback to the fact Jax was apparently originally a cis girl, or just Goose messing with her OC. By the way, I hate how Gooseworx treats Jax like an extension of herself and a vessel for all her internal issues instead of treating him/her as their own character
"Jax confessing something to her mother that made her mother upset, after her mother kept comparing her with her dad"
Possible deep and personal things Jax could have said:
"Maybe I don't want to be a man at all!"
"I know you'll think I'm a sissy, but.. I'm gay, mom!"
"I don't want to be the kind of man that dad was! It was your fault he left in the first place!"
"I don't want to look like a typical manly man! I like dresses and makeup, mom!"
"Jax blushing when she gets the bow, and Ribbit saying Jax's secret is safe with her"
Say it with me, kids:
Bow ≠ girl!
Bow ≠ girl!
Bow ≠ girl!
We all hate stereotyping objects!
Also Ribbit apparently decided that they should just assume what that "deep and personal" thing was even about instead of, y'know, interrupt Jax and ask him to talk about it: "What... what was that deep, personal thing?" Jax would hesitate but reply: "...I told my mom I didn't want to be a man in the first place." It would have made more sense for Jax to then push her away, since from his perspective, Ribbit DID pry too hard to the point that he ended up revealing his biggest secret. As it stands in canon, the bow can symbolize Ribbit's friendship/acceptance/the fact that Jax is safe to let his guard down and be feminine and emotionally open in front of them. She won't tell anyone about his secret (divorced parents, bad deadbeat dad, emotionally inconsistent mom who Jax had possibly killed)
"Jax saying she's not "a chicken fetus in an egg waiting to be hatched" (this is transgender slang) + many mentions of eggs, including Jax’s peeled self looking like egg yolk"
The "chicken fetus in an egg" line again and eggs in general, huh. Yeah... I thought Goose used that specific wording not because Jax himself was trans, but because Goose thought to herself: "Yeah, I wanna showcase that Jax is more than a jerk and the funny guy, and I'll use a trans slang to convey that message, because why not? There's nothing wrong w/ me using a trans slang in a non-trans context" Not only that, but most people aren't familiar with "the egg" referring to closeted trans people or trans people in denial!
"Jax’s ears getting forcefully ripped off when he gets peeled referring to the first point)"
Can also symbolize his vulnerability being exposed and his "macho man" exterior revealing his feminine, "weak" side
"Jax always getting upset at mirrors and her appearance"
There are only 3 instances where Jax looks in the mirror: the first time, it's after a severe emotional breakdown. He says tiredly "God, you look stupid," and the problem here is that the most logical conclusion to come to is that Jax said this in a "I hate the way I look after a meltdown" way
The second time, he touches his cheek when looking in the mirror after he first enters the circus, paralleling Pomni
The scene reads as "Jax is tired, new to all of this and traumatized, and also it's a Jax/Pomni parallel because they're the main characters" more than "I wish I had spawned as a girl." If the show wanted to communicate dysphoria more clearly, why didn't they have Jax touch his chest, or even his eye, only to look back at Ribbit, notice that, unlike her, he doesn't have eyelashes, and look back into the mirror in disappointment. Have his face STAY heartbroken till the next scene instead of having it turn into a frown like in canon
The third time is right after Kaufmo's death (during yet another emotionally charged moment)
It reads to me as "You're gonna cry after fucking up yet again... all while looking like this stupid cartoon bunny? Just like you used to cry in the real world as a human? You're pathetic."
"Jax complaining that Zooble is upset over their ability to change her body"
The line above can imply how Jax's problem is that he, unlike Zooble, can't accept contradictory parts of himself. Either that, or he's jealous that Zooble managed to solve their main problem (gender dysmorphia), while he hasn't solved his own, whatever that may be
Him saying this could mean that Jax is perceptive and knows stuff about others and how to push their buttons (he did remember that Ragatha's only fear were centipedes, that Zooble wanted to leave their mark in the world, and that Ragatha had an abusive mother)/push them away. Or he wished that he had gotten a more masculine avatar due to fragile masculinity (in a transmasc Jax reading, it makes sense that he'd want to look less "girly" and weak than he was forced to look like)
"Jax having a locked-away section in her mind"
This doesn't point strictly towards him being transfem. That room could have hidden anything behind it: him being trans, him being gay, any one of his deepest fears, embarrassing interests, insecurities, bad memories etc. Again, this is a clue only if you're already looking at the show through a transfem Jax lens
"Having a room that looks like a little girl’s"
I've already mentioned my problems with equating femininity with womanhood, but also... this "proof" of Jax being transfem also works if we imagine him as transmasc (the room reflects his insecurity in regards to his birth sex) or a femboy (the room reflects his insecurity in regards to his femininity). It can also simply mean that he hides his vulnerability and kindness behind cruelty, nihilism and jokes
"She has the colors of the trans or transfem flag in her eyes when she almost abstracts. She also has those colors in her room"
Whyyyyy do we have to pauseeee and search for this stufffff.
My thoughts on the flag thing (again): Blink and you'll miss it moment. When I first watched Episode 7, I didn't even notice the trans flag colors in Jax's eyes, and when I eventually did, I just assumed it was an Easter Egg that Gooseworx put in there because she's trans
My thoughts on the colors in Jax's room thing: You mean the rug and the floor? Again, it feels like you'll only notice the pink, white and blue colors if you're consciously looking for transfem Jax clues, and even then, I've never seen this point brought up before. It wasn't like most viewers were focused on the fact that Jax had almost abstracted, instead on the color schemes in his dimly lit room. Could also be another Easter Egg from Goose
"One of Jax's internal personas always wearing the maid outfit "as a joke" (trans people use this excuse when repressing often)"
Why does the casual viewer or a child need prior knowledge about how trans people act when repressing. The scene can also imply Jax doesn't want anyone to know that he enjoys feminine clothing (while still feeling like a man). And him wearing the maid dress during Zooble's funeral can be interpreted as him genuinely doing that to make fun of them for being non-binary just bc he feels like it/has internalized transphobia unrelated to his own transness because he grew up in a household that was against anything lgbtq related and he picked up on that, consciously or not
In ep 6, Jax's mask of indifference slips off briefly before the creepy grin returns, and, well...
...as it turns out, he never even saw anyone abstract. I thought this was him not only showing genuine anger, but also being honest. But nope. Still someone who lies through their teeth to justify their own actions. What I'm trying to say is that there is always a chance Jax is an unreliable narrator, even in situations where it might seem like he's telling the truth
"I Saw the TV Glow references"
I have no idea what these references are, but why do I have to watch another show to understand the core hidden aspect of your main character
"Goose being transfem and saying Jax is a self-insert"
A thing said outside the show. Also, just because a character is your self-insert, that doesn't mean they have to be based off of you in every way (which Jax unfortunately is, like creator like character I guess. I honestly feel bad that, ever since I've read the Bluesky confirmation about Jax being transfem and Gooseworx's problematic tweets, I can no longer separate Jax from her. Jax no longer feels like her own character to me)
"The song "isn't she lovely" about the birth of a daughter playing over footage of Jax"
Me whenever I'm reminded of how tadc ruined this song's reputation
Not only is the inclusion of it terrible ⬇️
"Isn't She Lovely?" is a song that a Black man sang to his Black daughter when she was born. Using the cover of a non-black man (who's also uh... problematic) and putting it in the context of a "rebirth as a woman" (which in canon changes nothing abt Jax or Leeroy, neither are explicitly revealed to be trans after it) scene doesn't sit right with me, especially since the finale aired on Juneteenth and Gooseworx is racist, just like some of the VA's. I will never forget the "NEGA" situation where Michael and Ashley laughed for a long ass time because someone posted a pic of a black shirt during a livestream with the word "NEGA" written on it in white letters
... but the song can also be about: 1) Jax's feelings towards Pomni. It makes more sense for him to be the terrible one and for her to be lovely, at least in this dynamic (let's just say Pomni's morality is questionable). And just like Stevie Wonder, Jax was (metaphorically) blind and didn't see that he cared about her until he was close to dying. "Less than one minute old" can refer to Pomni being new to the circus and already having made an impact on the other characters, and, in this context, on Jax. 2) When I first watched the movie, I thought that Gooseworx included "Isn't She Lovely?" in the context of Jax’s character IRONICALLY. I thought that we were supposed to laugh at how NOT lovely he is, especially because the montage popped up on the screen randomly. Let's not forget the pinkish filter that was added. I was like: "Haha, Goose is making fun of Jax's fragile masculinity one last time. Rip bozo" I only found out about Jax's transness after the credits rolled
I miss the old, wacky, neurodivergent-coded Caine. This new "normal" guy they replaced him with is bleh
I guess the message is that if you have autism and/or AuDHD, you have to become neurotypical to be part of a group. Never lash out or get too "crazy" again. Apologize if you do and say "Sorry! Force of habit :(" then go back to being "normal"
Thanks for this message, tadc. In other words...
When Ribbit opens up to Jax and tells her about their Mormon parents, Jax doesn't react at all. She doesn't say "I'm sorry" or even "That sucks" or anything like that. Instead the scene plays out like this:
Girl, not everything is about you, have some empathy. And even if Jax did feel bad for Ribbit, we don't get to see her face so... we can just assume
These are messy thoughts straight from my notes, but I've gotta talk about this:
The last episode is called "Remember," probably alluding to Pomni's name meaning "remember" in Russian, but I also have other interpretations based on my rewrite. 1) Jax finally remembered who she always was, she also remembered her past instead of burying it and finally embraced it 3) The cast ends up remembering Jax for all she was and could have been in life, too, not just before death
By the end, everyone thinks "OK, we've all completed our arcs and stuff, but we just found out we're brain scans and not even human. Now what?" Then they decide to still give nihilism meaning, and guess who symbolises nihilism?? Jax!
Jax is the only one who fully embodies the "nothing matters" mindset. In ep 8 she was like: "You can't get mad at me for trying to screw you over, so what if I could have trapped us all in the circus because I panicked for my own skin and pressed the wrong button, nothing happened, things turned out fine." Her mindset is literally "give up, everything is worthless, why preserve humanity and hope in a digital world that has no consequences, we're just a buncha cartoon characters"
Nihilism is gone by the end of the show (aka Jax dies) but walking through Jax's mind teaches them all that Jax was wrong, that humanity is worth preserving, that they have each other and that they can embrace both the life they know Jax will never get to experience, and Jax herself. BUT nihilism will always be present in some way even after Jax is gone; she will live on in their memories and her face will always be on the mural. And every time they think of her, they will be reminded to appreciate each other and life itself despite all the hurt and pain and feelings of hopelessness
Pomni, Ragatha, Kinger, Zooble and Gangle gave Jax hope. But she also gave them hope back, just in a different way
Imagine if this was the tadc we had gotten

How Gangle should have acted while trying to paint Jax's mural:
In my rewrite, even after the gang manages to make Jax feel whole for a brief time before she dies, her bad actions are still visibly going to affect the others, especially Gangle. I feel so bad for her. Girl deserved to have a real crashout over Jax instead of Zooble just walking in and saying all ChatGPT-like "Having some complex thoughts huh Gangle"
Jax is a terrible transfem representation. There, I said it. Just to be clear, if you relate to Jax and find joy or comfort in her story, more power to you 👍 I don't want to take that feeling away from you. Now...
Let's address the elephant in the room first. Femininity doesn't equal womanhood. A bow, a cute "girly" room, a "feminine" color scheme (purple and pinkish-red), liking dresses and wearing an eyeliner (god I hate the maid dress sm but I'll talk abt that later, but I've just noticed how it has a heart-shaped pattern on the chest area so... heart = girl?) and the final scene between Jax and Pomni having a pink hue to it are just not it, Goose.
Being a woman has to do with how you feel on the inside, not how feminine you are. I hate that Jax is flattened into either this "girly cutie pie" or a hottie by the fanbase now that we know she's trans, when she's a frickin mess of a character, full of self-blame and self-hatred that doesn't only have to do with her gender identity
I don't think it's illogical to say Jax had mommy and daddy issues even before she discovered her gender identity. When it comes to how Jax feels about Kaufmo and Ribbit's abstraction... well, I'd rather have her feel immense guilt because she genuinely cared for them both despite everything (I want Jax to be more than her transness and selfishness!), than for THIS to be her train of thought: "My friends are dead because I'm a girl! I couldn't accept it then, and I can't accept it now! It was all my fault because I'M A GIRL! Me being a girl is not only the main thing "wrong" with me, but also the root cause of all my problems!"
Transition wouldn't have fixed Jax because what she really needed to get better were self-acceptance, self-forgiveness and self-love. That's why I want to put the whole cast in Jax's mind in my rewrite. She needed them all to become whole, even briefly, before death
I want Jax to be a complex, fucked up woman with real depth and a capacity for change that she never took, not a hypersexualized, hyperfeminine trans girl. A woman is a woman regardless of her appearance, voice or interests because she knows deep down she is one! Jax's problems were deep and internal, yeah, but imo, her main issue was her belief that every part of her (including her mistakes) was wrong and unloveable. Jax spent the entire show fragmented instead of whole, meanwhile the others managed to overcome their issues. That's why I think it would be a good idea to have Pomni, Ragatha, Gangle, Zooble and Kinger all try to help Jax one last time so she can finally accept and forgive herself
And as we can see from Goose's confirmation post, Jax would have still kept thinking inappropriate things had she transitioned i dont think it's even possible to have your avatar permanently altered and your voice changed in the circus but ok ("I think my 2 friends who I've mistreated in canon are destined to fuck each others' brains out"). Not to mention her design is hyperfeminine and doesn't fit TADC's vibe. That's not Jax. She looks like Octavia from Helluva Boss
The fact that Glitch is profiting off of a trans character being deeply uncomfortable with wearing a sexualized, hyper-feminine maid dress out in public (that was only meant to humiliate them and be the creator's kink) to the point they seemed like they were close to abstracting is uh... certainly a choice. And not a good one. If Jax was just an average Joe with toxic masculinity, I still wouldn't like it, but Jax being a trans woman makes this whole thing even worse
Why do these two scenes have to parallel???
When I first watched Episode 7, I didn't even notice the trans flag colors in Jax's eyes, and when I eventually did, I just assumed it was an Easter Egg that Gooseworx put in there because she's trans
The same goes for the "chicken fetus in an egg" line. I genuinely thought Goose used that specific wording not because Jax himself was trans but because Goose thought to herself: "Yeah, I wanna showcase that Jax is more than a jerk and the funny guy, but I'll use this trans term because I'm trans myself and this is gonna be a fun Easter Egg haha"
I mean, if feeling like a girl was apparently always the biggest aspect of Jax's character, why be so vague about it? Most people aren't familiar with "the egg" referring to closeted trans people or trans people in denial! It feels like Goose just wrote this show for herself and didn't stop to think that hey, maybe my audience won't pick up on this stuff unless I'm more explicit about it, especially since there are a lot of kids in the TADC fandom
And of course, there's Jax's head being shaped like an egg and us only seeing the "yolk" underneath in ep 8
Goose, you've gotta get it into your head that many people are unfamiliar with what any of this stuff even means. That includes boymoding
No, Jax isn't fucking lovely, she's a terrible, selfish and cowardly person, and the audience shouldn't be gaslit that she was ever lovely despite her trauma. Not to mention Jax literally called herself a terrible person like a few lines before that. And if the montage was meant to say "Jax could have been lovely if only she had gotten to live openly as a woman," uh... nope. Jax needed to sort so many internal things out first. Transition doesn't magically fix things
"Isn't She Lovely?" is a song that a Black man sang to his Black daughter when she was born. Using the cover of a non-black man and putting it in the context of a "rebirth as a woman" (which in canon changes nothing abt Jax or Leeroy, neither are explicitly revealed to be trans after it) scene doesn't sit right with me, especially since the finale aired on Juneteenth and Gooseworx is racist, just like some of the VA's. I will never forget the "NEGA" situation where Michael and Ashley laughed for a long ass time because someone posted a pic of a black shirt during a livestream with the word "NEGA" written on it in white letters
I hate that we never get to hear Jax talk about what she actually likes and dislikes. Does she genuinely love guns (according to ep 6) and safaris (according to ep 5)? If fans REALLY wanna remember Jax fondly, why does it have to be JUST as "the trans girl"? Why don't we learn a single thing about Jax aside from her being trans, which was confirmed on Bluesky??? This girl never tells us anything about her interests or... anything, really. We just get a tone-deaf TikTok montage and KABOOM! she's gone. Reduced to atoms. Okay, Goose. Go off.
I've been thinking about this and uh... if Jax secretly wanted to be a girl, then why doesn’t he react at all to being called "Jaxy boy" by Gangle, "Bunny boy" by Zooble and "Evil bro" by Pomni?
We see his mask break briefly when he thinks about Kaufmo's funeral, Kaufmo and Ribbit, and when Ragatha talks about him corrupting Pomni
Another way to communicate he's transfem is making him jealous of seeing Pomni for the first time because she spawned as a feminine character. Have Pomni bump into Jax like in the original pilot, but then make him walk away angrily and show him observing her from a distance with a scowl on his face, unlike the other characters, (including Kinger, let's not forget him), who'd be welcoming. I think this is a good way to establish that Jax is different from the others in some way (with the later reveal that both he and Pomni are mcs now making more sense)
Other rewrite suggestions:
Add a tiny pair of eyelashes to Jax’s design (I got this idea because I remembered the design of Usopp from One Piece and then I remembered TADC ep 5 where Jax is implied to enjoy anime) but keep his male-sounding voice (bonus points if he's also voiced by a trans woman, but I don't think this is necessary, since him being voiced by a cis man could reflect the expectations Jax’s parents put on him to be a man). This way, the design communicates that he's a woman deep down (eyes = windows to the soul) who's been forced to sound like a man. The eyelashes would also solve the "every person's character design shows who they really are no matter how much they try to hide it" issue I have with Jax's design. Because purple and red being "feminine-coded" colors is stereotypical. And here's the thing I've just noticed: Jax's head IS shaped like an egg, especially with his head being yellow like yolk when his skin is peeled off. But like... how did Caine understand this metaphor and create Jax's avatar this way because he's "an egg"
Have Jax's torture scene be him getting his "bunny suit" peeled off along with the eyelashes, only to reveal a pair of eyelashes still present underneath. The message becomes that he can't escape who he is no matter how much he tries to hide it
Don't make merch or joke about his gender dysphoria. Treat this topic with sensitivity and respect, especially if you wanted the show's finale to air during pride month AND have the closeted trans character commit suicide
Make Leeroy, Jax’s human counterpart, a woman. Or put "she/her" on his profile page. Or slap a trans flag on there somewhere
I wouldn't include the bow on Jax's mural because I'm not a fan of objects being gendered (pink is for girls blue is for boys... nah)
Paint Jax's regular face (with the still present eyelashes, ofc) and have the others go from he/him to she/her after Jax tells Pomni before his death that he's sorry for everything and how she wants to be remembered as the girl she always wanted to be
Do NOT, and I repeat not NOT keep the abstracted characters as animals/fish in an aquarium to be admired by the still alive (lucid) characters. That's dehumanising. Have Caine either delete them all, including Jax, or put them in the cellar as a metaphorical burial ceremony. I don't want the trans character or anyone else to be treated like zoo animals especially bc Goose said how the idea was for abstraction to be a metaphor for suicide. She said that outside the show btw... sigh.
No edit/montage of Jax right before her death. Let her honestly talk to Pomni instead about herself, her feelings, likes, dislikes. And don't make all of them "feminine"! If you must put a song in, don't use Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely" because 1) No, she isn't, and the audience shouldn't be gaslit that she ever was despite her trauma 2) This is a song that a black man composed when his black daughter was born. Using the cover of a non-black man and putting it in the context of a "rebirth as a woman" (which in canon changes nothing abt Jax or Leeroy, neither are explicitly trans after it) scene doesn't sit right with me, especially since the finale aired on Juneteenth
Ribbit doesn't have to put her bow on Jax's head to symbolize transness because the audience would have already picked up on it long ago
Have Jax explicitly say smth like this to Ribbit: "The deep, personal thing I told my mom... was that I never felt like a man at all." The word trans doesn't have to be explicitly uttered, but you should still make it clear
Have a funeral for Jax where all of her victims talk about her and her mistakes and how much she's hurt them. That would give Jax's victims closure + screen time and not make it seem like this entire movie was all about Jax and no one else
Make the ending somber at first, then happier as the cast learns to move on from Jax's recent death and find closure. Don't make the circus instantly return its colors as soon as Jax explodes in white light (dies). I don't like what that implies
Man, it would be so cool NOT to turn Jax into a stereotypical, girly, misunderstood, innocent (Trans) Girl ™ Like get this woman out of this show her character's been destroyed too
And please Gooseworx, don't post a confirmation where Jax says how Ribbit and Pomni should f*ck each other's brains out after saying how transitioning would have fixed her. No, it wouldn't have fixed her. Imagine if, instead, Jax doesn't die while having a panic attack and instead learns to love herself, even the male voice Caine gave her, because it was all a part of her all along. That would also tie in with Jax being jealous of how Zooble could learn to accept all of themselves back in episode 7
I actually want ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about Jax to change on the outside (her appearance will stay the same from the beginning of the show until the end, her eyelashes will remain and so will her voice) because all she ever needed to do was learn to accept, forgive and love herself for who she was on the inside in spite of the abuse she's gone through, the guilt she always felt for driving Ribbit and Kaufmo to abstraction (suicide) because of her own personal issues and potentially killing her mother after she reacted badly to Jax coming out to her! The scene where Jax is just standing there with his clothes constantly changing (there's even one where Jax looks like a static TV screen which I interpret as him feeling empty on the inside, like he feels disconnected from the world and his own body/self) would then send the message that she could have been ALL of those parts of herself (the masculine, the feminine, and the in-between) all while living authentically as a girl
When Jax said "There's nothing more to me" and then we see that he has a yolk-like humanoid body underneath, I interpret how he thought that all that "Jax" was was the girl he tried so hard not to be and shame tied to everything he's ever done and is
But if you know who you are and were (even if it was someone who wasn't a good person) and fully embrace both, then no outside physical "stagnation" can take that away from you, and you can finally grow, make amends and move forward. But Jax realized all that too late
What just hit me is that Jax's arc has pieces of Pomni's (feeling like nothing), Ragatha's (having an abusive mother), Gangle's (masking), Zooble's (body dysmorphia), Kinger's (losing someone you loved) and Caine's (wanting to be loved) there's also the fact jax is "the funny one but not really" like kaufmo and comes from a conservative family like ribbit and the culmination of her story was, to me, supposed to be learning to integrate all of them into one "you" at least for a short while... except that TADC didn't go that deep. The show just gave us a TikTok montage and called it a day
Everyone in the cast who isn't Jax should have gotten their own fully fleshed-out arc before the finale btw
Jax failed to live as a whole person and died without getting the chance to put the life advice the others gave to each other into practice, but all the other characters/survivors, all the other "pieces" can still come together as a group and create one whole that Jax no longer has a chance to be within herself
Imagine if everyone (after their character developments that happened in earlier episodes) had gone inside Jax's mind to try to save her. Zooble did say Jax was still one of them in ep 8, and Pomni knew she might not be there later in the same ep. Then Jax could have finally learned to accept all of herself (Pomni is hope, Zooble is acceptance of identity, Gangle is emotional honesty, Kinger is grief, Ragatha is (self) compassion. Together, they "reconstruct"Jax as a whole person)
Meanwhile, in the void, Caine (who I think tadc wanted to parallel Jax) would be having a moment of realization that he did many horrible things and instead of pulling the Blue AI out of his head, he'd learn to accept himself as a whole being just like Jax, and once he rejoins the group, he'd stay the same, just more considerate of others and less selfish
The fact that a transmasc reading is also possible in Jax's case is bad if there's supposedly only one intended interpretation (personally I don't like characters that are supposed to only be read one way but it's Goose' show so she can do whatever)
In a transmasc Jax reading, the egg represents his secret vulnerability just like the dialogue suggests in ep 6 but also has a trans undertone to allude to the fact he is, in fact, trans. His room is girly because Caine found out from his mind file that Jax's biggest insecurity was him having once been a girl. He genuinely dislikes anything "feminine" like maid dresses because it reminds him of who he used to be. Ribbit putting the bow on Jax's head signifies that she accepts his past as a girl. Jax explains how he was never "man enough" and you can come to the conclusion that's true because, well, he didn't use to be a man at all! He was a "sissy," "weak," "not strong enough," and even though he was assigned female at birth, his mom still treated him like he was his dad before Jax snapped and told her: "Well maybe I want to be a REAL man, mom!" Then she laughed and hugged him, Jax got scared and pushed her away. Then later, when Pomni finds Jax playing the piano and chained to it, it can simbolize how he was forced to play the piano (perform femininity though he was still compared to his dad because Jax was the only other person besides his mom in the house; Jax kept refering to everyone as just stereotypes because he was once just "the girl," and ever since his dad left, he was "the replacement man who was never a real man"), a typically feminine instrument. We know Jax in the show liked guns and mentioned once how his mom would make meals out of exotic animals (that I assume his dad hunted?) That's obviously not something a conservative family would want their daughter-turned-son to be into. "Isn't She Lovely" in transmasc Jax context could refer to the shy, timid, kind girl he used to be + signify Pomni's acceptance of his former identity. We know "Evil Jax," Jax's clone, shares the same traits (and in this interpretation represents Jax when he was an innocent girl), and since Jax wanted to kill him, the last scene can be a contrast to him finally embracing this femininity. Leeroy in the outside world looks skinny and feminine because he's biologically still female but presents himself as an emo guy with long hair. It's his style. He also goes to Riley's (Zooble's) queer bar because that's where he is accepted. He's even himself in the outside world! Under this reading, I still don't like the use of Maid Jax to mock Jax, and how things wouldn't be explicit either, but my point is that the text itself shows that multiple readings of Jax's character are possible.
There's also this one that I had written on YT before the theatre release:
Considering how Leeroy was always expected to be the strong male figure in the household ever since his dad left, I wouldn't be surprised if Jax's big secret is actually being a femboy. That would definitely be a big deal for someone in his situation. Leeroy's mom, who missed her husband a lot, saw his dad as a manly man with anger issues, and when Leeroy supposedly told her about his feminine interests and love for cute things/dresses, and/or was vulnerable in front of her in some way (maybe abt missing his dad or being afraid he is/will become like him; vulnerability is often associated with femininity and we know Jax has some kind of difficult relationship with it), his mom laughed at him at first because she refused to believe her son wasn't actually the manly man like her ex husband was. She initially didn't want to admit Leeroy wasn't his father, but then regretted it and hugged him. Assuming Jax is meant to be transfem, it's weird how Pomni didn't tell anyone about this so they could at least respect Jax’s hidden identity. Everybody inside the show still refers to him as he/him, and in the merch store, Jax's also referred to as he/him. I've been thinking about this a lot, but maybe the bow scene with Ribbit was meant to be a callback to how Gooseworx originally intended for Jax to be a girl. We also have that one scene where Jax is shown in a soldier uniform, a maid dress, and many other outfits. I choose to interpret it as him struggling to accept that all parts of him ARE him: the feminine, the masculine, and the in-between. That's why he was jealous of Zooble. Leeroy struggled to escape his father's shadow because he was taught that he was only allowed to be the "masculine, strong guy" his dad was. I believe "Isn’t She Lovely" has many different interpretations (a transfem one, a transmasc one, some say it represents Jax's secret vulnerability, his feelings towards Pomni...) in the context of Jax’s character, but my favorite one is that he only had less than a minute to live as someone who's embraced his soft heart/femininity/vulnerability. He is finally honest and vulnerable for once and admits to himself that he's scared to die without jokes or sarcasm, and his "I hate you" to Pomni was him trying to be as genuine as he could, too. Unfortunately, we never got to see the version of Jax who could say "I love you" to someone. I think he did learn to accept himself, but not love himself. Jax's biggest fear (as revealed in the Caine torture scene, at least how I interpreted it) is that all his traumas, parts, pain, problems and regrets will be laid bare in front of others, especially his 3 best friends (Kaufmo, Ribbit, Pomni), and that he will be shamed for all that he is. He kept insisting he was an archetype ("the funny one"), just like how I assume Leeroy always thought he couldn't be anything other than "the manly one." Jax's biggest wish was to just be Jax without fear that his angry side (I like to think Leeroy's dad represents toxic masculinity) will harm others like it had harmed Leeroy's mom (who represents the femininity/vulnerability that Jax thought he had killed, literally and metaphorically. That's why he kept being cruel over and over again, until Pomni gave him his gentleness back at least for a little while before his death and made him open to love again. I genuinely think Evil Jax represents who Leeroy once was). Without feeling like he needed to push others away/torment them because he couldn’t stand being himself. And he WAS himself for less than a minute, as the song lyrics go, before he was gone.
It doesn't make sense for the song "Isn't She Lovely" to symbolize Jax realizing his gender identity for the first time because, if we assume him feeling like a woman was his big secret, then he had already let Ribbit know about that years ago, even if he was vague about it. She picked up on it, thus putting the bow on Jax's head to make him feel more like the girl he wishes he could be. He does talk about having told his mom "something deep and personal" after all
However, it also doesn't make sense for the song to symbolize Jax finally accepting his gender identity for the first time not to mention that calling him "lovely" is just not true. Not only that, but it's also hypocritical, since he calls himself a horrible person that he is just before that, because both he and his human counterpart continue going by he/him pronouns, there isn't a bow painted on Jax's mural (if it's meant to symbolize his transness, it should have been included), and the only thing we learn about Leeroy is that he goes to Riley's (implicitly queer) bar, but that doesn't confirm him being a trans woman. He might still be questioning, while Jax never got to explore himself.
I've heard people say Pomni never started referring to Jax as she/her or told others about his secret because she didn't want to out him before he was ready but... if abstraction is a metaphor for suicide, then Jax is well and truly gone. Shouldn't he at least be remembered for who he truly was? Wouldn't putting the bow on Jax's mural be a gesture that would prove that Jax's fear of being made fun of for who he was never came true and that he was, in contrast, fully accepted despite everything?
As for the pronouns argument... I think Pomni and Jax should have had an actual conversation in regards to his identity instead of us being shown that cringe montage and for the love of everything please leave one of black people's iconic songs intact and remove stevie wonder's "isn't she lovely." if they really had to include a song in that scene, why didn't they write an original song??? Imagine if Jax had said something like "Please let them know who I really was. I know I don't deserve it, but... even if I was a terrible person, I just want to be remembered as me."
In ep 6, Jax tells Pomni: "I'm just a misunderstood little chicken fetus in an egg that needs to be cracked open. Well, I am NOT! I do not care about you, or ANYONE ELSE in this circus in the slightest! End of story!" I've only recently learned that a "chicken fetus in an egg" is a term trans people use before coming out or when they're questioning. But the sentence that comes after the egg one makes it seem like, in Jax's case, cracking an egg open refers to how he doesn't want Pomni to know that he DOES secretly care about others even if he pretends not to
Maybe have him later say: "I'm exactly who you think I am (you see me as a man, and I'm lying to you when I say that's my real self)" instead of "There's nothing more to me" bc based on context it makes it seem like he meant "I'm just a jerk, the funny one and nothing more, so stop trying to see the good in me"
I haven't seen anyone mention this, but 90% of people who see Jax's human counterpart, Leeroy, will call him an edgy emo guy. The same goes for the "cracking the egg" line I talked about. The issue I have with both of these trans-coded moments is that only a minority of people will see them as trans-coded, while the implications will fly over the majority of people's heads. Seriously Goose, stop queerbaiting and be explicit! That's the only way to get the message across TO EVERYONE!
Personally, I like the "Jax told his mom that he wasn't sure if he wanted to be a man in the first place" interpretation more than him telling her "I 100% feel like a woman!"
Then there's Goose's tweet about how there are aspects of himself Jax's not ready to address when somebody asked her why he found the maid outfit so embarrassing even though he looked good in it let's be honest, jax was only put in the maid outfit bc that's goose's kink. and so is lobotomy This could refer to him feeling like the opposite gender, sure, but it can also refer to Jax still being a softie at heart (my interpretation of Evil Jax is that it's who Leeroy used to be and was mocked for being like by his mom, which is why Jax wanted to kill him), him being vulnerable/secretly caring about others, him being a coward instead of the macho man he wants to be seen as, him actually liking being submissive/feminine...
Under the transfem interpretation, why force Jax, a closeted trans woman who still goes by he/him pronouns, into a maid dress, which IS something he might want to wear in public, BUT isn't ready to do yet? Why make merch of the transfem character in that same maid dress afterwards if they are embarrassed about feeling exposed? Jax felt so ashamed that his pupils looked scribbed, just like Pomni's in the pilot, when we all thought she was close to ABSTRACTING (aka metaphorically committing suicide)
The maid outfit feels more like a joke/Goose's kink/fanservice, especially based on the descriptions of Maid!Jax:
"Jax in a maid outfit. We didn't ask for this - it's just democracy manifest."
"Do not feel any embarrassment when wearing your Maid Jax T-Shirt. Embarrassment is for Jax, and look what happened to him (he got put on a t-shirt)."
"The Maid Jax pin, for when you want to display that blushing bunny but also be a little discreet ✨The Maid Jax pin comes with a swinging feature allowing you to swish his skirt! He hates it!"
"Tea time with Jax: comes with a mug, a coaster, and an overwhelming sense of regret."
"We're just going to put this Maid Jax animatez here, nice and slow. Whatever you do with it is your business, we're not here to judge."
What I'm curious to know is if Jax himself is meant to be a transfem character, or if Goose simply wanted to tell a trans story/her own experiences with her identity struggles through Jax, without committing to making the character himself canonically transfem. Did she choose Jax to tell this story because he's her self insert and she relates to him most? Because if Jax himself is meant to be transfem rep... why not make that explicit in the end in some way so everyone in the audience would be able to know with 0 ambiguity? Why tailor his storyline in a way where only trans people would be able to pick up on it? I don't like using the term queerbaiting but this seems like it

Ok, buddy. Guess we are.
so wat would u say 2 someone who related to angel dust? i respond to trauma the same way as him
I already answered this one. You can relate to him if you want to, obviously. I just think his character overall waa poorly executed, but you can disagree
