*I have deactivated all socials, now it’s time to deactivate Instagram. I have a beautiful and funny personal story about meeting the lovely Tracy Chapman on the streets of San Fran, a moment I will never forget and will share when I return to tumblr. I deeply love that she doesn’t have socials or a smart phone--this sweet essence is very clear in her aura as well. I went 2 years without a smart phone and had an old school land line and a cute hot pink vintage rotary phone instead and it was THE most elevating time of my life. I am gearing up to spend 8 days in a warm place--not a lot of time, but I'm so grateful. :) Take care of yourself. Get outside of these phones and machines sometimes and place your anointed hands into the earth, representing those acts and aspects of the divine in practice. Then find something new to laugh about. Welcome in your beautiful breakthrough and elevation. Everything is possible. If you enjoy my work, you may want to read some of my latest posts and shares on my forthcoming books posted—they will be archived soon, then put your hands in the earth🥰🖐🏿. :) Blessings to our earth/nature/breath/hands/hearts/lovemaking/recipes made from scratch/laughter/vulnerable sounds/prana/art/music/projects/love stories... Bless the lives being tragically and senselessly taken…let all of the disregard for human life ignite your tears ….AND your fire. Blessings to the Congo, Sudan, and Ethiopia as well. And many blessings to those of us who are doing great work on a highly evolving path. One loveliness! #themelodyoflove

I'm so gutted by this man's passing. He was so young and still had so much to give this world.
Just thinking about this song as my introduction to the phenomenal D'Angelo. I remember seeing this video quite young for the first time and I was so confused at first because I had never seen anything like it before. The song was breathtaking, the image was jarring but absolutely stunning.
When I was mature enough to understand the words, I remember thinking "this is how I want a man to feel about me!". He did something that was very rare in his time- present love making as an act of submission and not conquest. I loved the POV of the state of mind and not centering on the act itself. He made male vulnerability beautiful and sexy. It was groundbreaking for his time and circle and he suffered greatly with his mental health for it because people had only the worst take aways from this video.
Anyway, I've been listening to his songs today since hearing about his death and I couldn't help fantasizing (cos I'm so sydcarmy pilled ofc) about this song as the needle drop for when sydcarmy finally have a proper love scene. It would be the perfect song for them. It's so soulful and playful and heavy and meaningful. It's how women want to be seen sexually, not as an abstract object but as a full person that needs to be poured into and submitted to as well.
And it's so Carmy!
Imagine if every lover looked at you this way!
RIP D'Angelo. You were such a gift to music and to this world.

D'Angelo
I didn't realize how sad I was about D'Angelo's passing until I realized how much his music is connected to the memories and experience of self in my life. D'Angelo's music and then the birth of Neo Soul helped me realize that I was a lover, a yearner and that sh&t was alrrrright. I loved that for me. I remember when the Untitled video debuted and when I got older, I decided to search for older music D'Angelo may have had and came across the Brown Sugar (1995) album. Now, I had heard Brown Sugar before on BET Midnight Love and/or BET Cita's World (). The way this album emotionally awakened me in such a beautifully musical and meaningful way. I remember teenage me getting my mother to listen to "Sh*t, Damn, Motherf*cker" because I love how he had written the song! I still remember how I felt with the reveal of the events of the song and how I had not heard something similar at the time. The way my Christian, conservative, Haitian mother earnestly listened to me describe the song, listen to the song and show interest was something I think helped me realize how open my mom really was to me growing as a person. The way I'd sing "Alright" when I felt overwhelmed in a relationship sense or how "When We Get By" or "Cruisin" made me yearn for smooth, peaceful, love. You couldn't convince me that I wasn't an actual background singer for "ME and Those Dreaming Eyes"! 🤭 I have so many memories related to his overall music but I play songs from that brown sugar album everyday. Every day, a little sprinkle of hope towards a future where life is peaceful with my loved ones and self-actualization is happening. I've always been thankful to D'Angelo for stretching my musical taste and introducing me to some sounds that I had not heard and/or considered. Neo-Soul as a genre is so beautiful and allowed me to also articulate my feelings. RIP to a Michael Eugene Archer aka D'Angelo, who loved music, loved sound, loved expressing himself through his art and loved black people.
"The music business is a crazy game, especially for somebody like me who is really a purist about the art. Trying to balance the pressures of commercialism, it's a tightrope. It's a fine line between sticking to your guns and insanity."

People need reflection.
I regret not having more time with you. Your undeniable beauty and talent were not of this world, and a presence not of this world needs protection in a world that covets light and the anointing of God. You sir, moved us, stirred us, inspired and even intimidated others to action with your genius. Thank you for being a beacon of light to a generation and beyond who had no remembrance of the legacy that preceded us. Thank you for charting the course and for making space during a time when no similar space really existed.
You imaged a unity of strength and sensitivity in Black manhood to a generation that only saw itself as having to be one or the other. It is my earnest prayer that you are in peace, far away from selfishness, fear and/or controlling interests. Far from possessiveness, far from greed, far from manipulation, far from exploitation, far from intentionally designed chaos and that you Brother are in peace, in bliss and in eternal light and fulfillment with our Father in heaven. I Love you and I miss you. May God grant peace and shelter to your family, true friends and genuine appreciators, Brother, King.
