one time i was making potato soup and i needed broth for it but i was out of broth. but in my dog food cabinet there was a carton of chicken broth that i had bought for my dog. now the box did say HUMAN GRADE and the ingredients were just bog standard chicken broth. it did say something about joint health for dogs on there. but the ingredients were normal. i even compared the ingredients list to some normal person broth and they were the same. so i did put dog broth in that soup and it did taste completely normal. but i did use the dog broth.
'being secular does not automatically make you progressive and being religious does not automatically make you conservative', i say. everyone boos, but i know I'm right

Jesus fucking Christ. In the US they’re separating the MMR vaccine into three different shots?? Let me tell you fucking something: YOU CANNOT GET THESE AS SEPARATE SHOTS IN THE US! It is physically impossible to get these three shots separate.
So I guess kids are just going to get measles, mumps, and rubella now! Even though we have a perfectly good MMR vaccine for all three-in-one! Fuck Trump. Fuck Kennedy. Fuck Bill Cassidy and any of these republican dickheads who aided and abetted this grievous wrong to the future of America & all the children who WILL be affected by this. Goddamn monsters in charge.
wait, are the shots only effective when theyre together? /genuine questions
No, it’s just that the vaccine is only available together because the diseases have been eradicated for so long, we straight up do not make them separate anymore. Which also means that when people do get these diseases it’s gonna be a lot harder to treat and a lot easier to die.
It should be noted that this whole "get the shots separately" thing comes directly from the scam that andrew wakefield lead in the UK in the late 90s, and the effective birth of the modern anti-vax movement. the entire point was to scare parents into getting separate vaccines - which was a more expensive option that wakefield stood to profit from.
the theory behind it was that the measles in the MMR vaccine would leave trace amounts of RNA in the intestines(none could be found when this was tested), which would then turn into "morphine-like substances"(no specific chemical named or found), causing non-specific colitis(bowel issues of varying kinds) which would then, somehow, cause Chron's Disease. that last part got changed to "it causes Autism" later on. Wakefield has since lost his medical license, as it was found that, among other problems, he and his team medically abused children to try and create the evidence to back up their claims.
This is, at this point, a very old method based around lies meant to build up a scam using children as props and tools. It should be called out as such.
Not only is MMR only offered as one injection, but very often pediatricians are offering MMRV (MMR and Varicella (chicken pox)) as a single injection because the vaccine is safe, effective, and when you ask, "would you like one fewer needle today?" most parents (and patients) give an enthusiastic "Yes!"
And these shots are normally given at visits where other shots are being given as well. Splitting up an MMRV makes a visit that could have three injections have six instead. How well do you think the average four year old is doing when you're coming at them with your sixth needle in two minutes? Like, a good nurse can probably get through the first two before most kids have processed that they're really not happy about a situation, but I guarantee 99% of kids will be actively struggling by the time you're on needle number 6, and that just sucks for everyone. The kid is upset, their parents are upset, the nurse is wishing this was not how their day is going.
And if you don't want your kid getting all those pokes at the same time, your only other option is to break up the vaccines. Which means more trips to the doctor, which creates a scheduling burden on the parents, and teaches the kids that going to the doctor hurts. And no one benefits! Technically the doctor can charge an administration fee for each shot, but they'd really give the combo vaccines instead - the money isn't worth the hassle this creates.
I know I don't know nearly enough about medicine to be a decent Secretary of Health and Human Services, but I could do a better job than RFK Jr.

Idk personally i prefer them, at least I already know to be looking out for pedestrians coming up to a crosswalk. The ones that get me are the "midblock walk out from between 2 parked cars into a major road, usually without looking".
Where's that post about it being my right to dart out from behind parked cars like a deer

oh my god I just saw the cutest thing in the world. little Black girl with beads in her hair for the first day of school and the beads were pink then silver then a bunch of yellow then beige then grey to make them look like pencils 🥺🥺🥺 brb I will draw an artist’s rendition

personally I am of the opinion that vegans who are like “the way our food system currently works under capitalism on a large scale is exceptionally cruel to all animals including humans and is not sustainable, so I’m doing what I can to make the most ethical choices available to me about what I eat and encourage others to do the same” are generally very reasonable people who I agree with in spades. but vegans who seem to think human beings are not themselves animals who are ultimately also part of the food chain but instead some kind of other paternalistic higher entity that can never engage in ethical and sustainable hunting practices (and especially the fringe I’ve seen who think other carnivorous animal predators are also evil and need to be eliminated) are people I regard as foolish at best if not actively anti-indigenous and racist

When people argue that food from Chinese and Mexican restaurants in the US are not 'real' representations of that culture's cuisine ignore the historical reality that these dishes were developed by diasporic communities striving to recreate the flavors of home with available resources. Such criticism frames adaptation as a loss of authenticity, rather than recognizing it as a sincere and evolving expression of culture by people separated from their homeland.
Also it just overlooks the fact that large parts of the United States literally used to be Mexico. Like yeah, chinese-american food is a diaspora cuisine and it's awesome.
But Mexican-american food is "regional cuisine that often began developing in what used to be part of Mexico/Mexican territory and continued to develop after the borders changed."
Some of it isn't "striving to recreate the flavors of home." Sure, maybe like, Mexican food in Chicago is about that. But I'm from Arizona. My family is from Tucson by way of (Tucson being annexed) and then Sonora & Chihuahua. We're not trying to recreate anything — because Tucson is still in the Sonoran desert.
This is a map of the Sonoran desert region:
I've helpfully marked Tucson.
Just to be clear, it takes an hour and 20 minutes nowadays to drive to the Mexican side of Nogales. You could walk the journey in a little over 27 hours. So obviously less than a week on horseback.
What I'm saying here is that the "diaspora" is maybe implying that Mexican-american cuisine largely developed with huge geographical distances or lack of access to Mexican cultivars or something but like.
Here's a map of New Spain in 1819:
Here's a map of the War:
I'm just saying that a lot of Mexican-American food is literally just food and culinary traditions that Mexicans were eating in northern parts of Mexico/New Spain.
It might shock people to learn, but there were Mexicans living in Mexico. And parts of Mexico are now the United States. And those Mexicans, if they stayed, are now Mexican Americans, and our culinary traditions have undergone normal growth and innovations over time. Mexico-mexicans also had normal innovations and growth in their regional cuisines as well! That's just how time and increased access with faster transport works. I have met a lot of people from Mexico who seem to think the second they're in San Diego instead of Tijuana, that the food is no longer authentic Mexican food and...it is baffling to me. It's an invisible line in the sand.
The border is not actually an impenetrable wall. The food doesn't become inauthentic at border patrol checkpoints. Those didn't even exist not that long ago.
It's authentic to something that isn't strictly about citizenship and documented nationality.
Of course! This is a great addition. It's crucial to remember that not all 'ethnic' food in a country comes from diaspora. Some of it is simply the native cuisine of land that was annexed.
im realizing very fast that people do not in fact know that sometimes things in stories suck on purpose and it sucking is the point
"this story is misogynistic!!"
>looks inside
>about the pressures of societal misogyny and how its bad
