MOR headcanon 1: a quattro mani
Since back when they were children, Nannerl and Wolfgang used to play the fortepiano a quattro mani, four-hand, just for fun. It was a game to them, and also, when Leopold’s lessons happened to become too tedious or heavy, a way for them to amuse themselves and quickly find joy in making music again. They started with musical compositions they knew and then improvised on them, at first with Wolfgang always following his sister’s lead, then eventually both on the same level. They made up new themes and literally threw those at each other, challenging one another. Often, it ended in laughters and in a mess of dissonances, backbeats, and general chaos that had Leopold arrive from another room to check what on Earth his supposedly musically inclined son and daughter were doing.
When they are adults, whenever Nannerl comes to visit him and Constanze in Wien, Wolfgang insists they play together like they used to, and when they do it’s like they’re children again, they can remember every theme they invented, even the silliest ones.
They have a great time, and Constanze loves to watch them.
