Tony Barrow, the Beatlesā first press officer, observed: āThere was a very intimate relationship in Liverpool between the Beatles and their fans. And the Beatlesā fans could actually ring the Beatles. I mean, you just had to look under āMcā in the phonebook and ring Paul McCartney and say, āPlease will you play āSome Other Guyā for us at the Cavern on Friday.āā ⦠Margaret Hunt, who first saw the Beatles perform at the Aintree Institute, decided to look up Paul McCartneyās home phone number and call him. Still asleep when she rang one weekday morning, a message was left for him. Much to her surprise, the call was returned. This first pleasant, one-on-one interaction with McCartney led to several others and, soon after, many with her favourite Beatle John Lennon.
- Christine Feldman-Barrett, A Womenās History of the Beatles (2021)
āPlease will you play āā¦ā¦..ā for us at the Cavern on Friday?ā It makes me so happy this is essentially still a thing! I live near enough to Liverpool to be a regular in the Cavern, Iām obsessed with the place. The artists who play in there now are really good, some of them are VERY good. You can still ask them to play your requests in advance, only difference is itās now messaging on Instagram!

FOOD DISCOURSE: reblog with ur opinions on guacamole, olives, mango, hummus, tomatoes, and cannolis
This. So this. My parents fall into this trap of thinking from time to time too. They always say they didnāt spend much money when they were young, no treats etc., yet I was having a conversation with my mum the other day about what I take into work for lunch with me and she just said so offhand āoh we used to go the cafe down the road every day when I was in my 30sā. And I was like wait whattt??? To which she said āoh it was cheap, it was only just this little cafe, nothing special. But now even just the little independent cafes down the road are expensive. No one could just afford to go there every lunchtime. I donāt have a single colleague who goes out to buy lunch instead of bringing in food from home. Thatās the thing, previous generations did spend money, did buy commodities which could have been cheaper, but they were so cheap already they could afford it and didnāt need to think about it. They could afford the coffee, just as they could afford the house. Just as they could afford to go watch their football team every weekend instead of spending a fortune on streaming the matches because even that is still cheaper than a ticket. Rant over.

kind of obsessed with this comment on a video of āi donāt know (johnny johnny)ā like girl what are you talking about. i love this take though
āWe tried to think of a number to finish off with so I can get out of here and be sick, and we thought we'd do a number of an old, estranged fiancĆ© of mine, called Paul.ā John Lennon, 1974
This continues to be bonkers, by the way. The quote itself, the use of the word fiancĆ©, the choice of song. And the fact that Elton is happily all up in the Lennon-McCartney madness. Then thereās that extra layer of Paul serving as intermediary for John and Yokoās reunion.
These incredibly straight men and their incredibly straight marriage to each other. Tell me more about your engagement, Johnald. When do you consider yourselves affianced?
Robert Downey Jr regarding the Oppenheimer screening in the Hamptons over the summer
Has anyone ever thought, yes each day that passes is another day Paul has lived without John. More than 40 years and countingā¦
But, each day that passes brings Paul closer to the day on which, he believes, he will be with him again.
And yes, on that day weāll all be fucking heartbroken, but surely this will be the only thought which will bring any of us any comfort, right?
Excuse me while I scream into the void
Not to be dramatic, but have I ever told you that I love Paul McCartney? As in, that I utterly utterly adore James Paul McCartney? That I love him to the very marrow of his bones? That I love him from the top of his, once dark brown now silver haired, head to the very tips of his toes? That I love him not in spite of his downright weirdness, but because of it? That I love him so much I no longer know what my joy, or my comfort, are without his music? That I will love him until the last moment I draw breath?
I have?
Well Iām doing it again because I havenāt told you enough.
