Hey, this is Em's TGCF sideblog! I reblog TGCF posts here, but the intent is for me to be doing my fair share of posting too. What am I posting? Uh:

-When I can find the words for them, I post meta. I've made a few I'm proud of, like how the backdrop of the novel is a recently-unified China, or that whole entire timeline I made;

-Headcanons/assorted thoughts;

-Weekly polls, for a while! Real classy stuff to gauge fandom opinions and knowledge with, like "when did the Shi siblings ascend?", "was Jun Wu following Xie Lian?" and "Do gods poop?"

-Fic! Check out my AO3. I'm in a writing drought at the moment, but if you ask nicely I'll do my best to answer any questions people have about my fics, so long as the question isn't about my upload schedule.

To think that Xie Lian lived for centuries without anyone to talk while collecting scrap after his last fall, just to be ignored by the other gods in the spiritual communication array whenever he tried to start a conversation after his last ascension. And then Hua Cheng finally finds him and not only answers TO him but also remembers everything is said BY him, as if every word spoken by Xie Lian was worthy of his complete attention and not a mere pause in his own speech. Was in such simple details, — like being truly heard — that a man whose existence had always been about what he could or couldn't offer others, finally felt like he existed in himself, just as if who he is was more important than the state of him for the first time.

Also the fact that Xie Lian didn't freak out in that floating coffin after spending a century buried alive in one really speaks a lot either about his ability to just "whatever" his way through any situation OR the tremendous amount of trust he has in Hua Cheng.

Imagine you're put in a similar situation to that of the excessively prolonged torture you suffered through and you're just "ah shit got a boner." I love him.

Gonna blame the incompetent government for the fact that they allowed people to come and pray to Xie Lian BENEATH A COLLAPSING BEHEMOTH OF A TOWER instead of organizing an evacuation of the disaster zone. Hell, in the time all these people were swarming around like brainless idiots, they probably could’ve had a few people go into the tower and start clearing out important relics! Xie Lian was holding that tower for a long ass time!!!

Once again, people prioritizing praying to be saved over doing the bare minimum to save themselves.

I guess some people stay with the idea that Xie Lian was in the wrong because that's how the in-universe tradition portrays him and they just ignore all the stuff in the book that challenges this idea. But tbh, when I read the prologue that calls him a fool and say how he saved a child from splattering into the ground and his response to being told this was wrong actually was "it's the heavens who are wrong" I was ride or die for him, I was like okay this guy is literally right and everyone else is just and idiot

So the reason I’m anti-Yong’an is because I hate people who refuse to aim at the right target and target any and everyone to vent their anger on when it’s not those people’s fault. The capital didn’t cause the drought, didn't kill their families, and didn't traumatize them, and the people of the capital weren’t the only ones at fault for the Yong’an people being expelled. Plus, the expulsion was nowhere near them being turned out to die, they just refused to leave, themselves. And let's not even get into the fucking Human Face Plague.

The reason I’m becoming anti-capital is because I hate a people who can’t make decisions for themselves but wanna play the blame game when someone makes the decision for them. Everybody wants to rely on Xie Lian to find a cure while they sit back and and do nothing else but cry for him to save them. When he "does nothing" (according to them), then he's abandoning them to their desperation, but when he does make a decision, then they're angry because they didn't like the outcome, despite him already warning them not to take his drastic measures as surefire solutions! They want him to carry them through adversity like they're babies, worry- and responsibility-free.

And Hua Cheng was absolutely right about both groups: the first group needs to learn how to identify their actual enemy rather than attacking their benefactor for having the misfortune of failing to “adequately” save them, and the second group needs to take their own lives into their own hands rather than waiting docilely to be saved and complaining the whole way about not being saved “quick enough.”

Honestly Xie Lian to me is the biggest proof that they are no bad ideas only bad executions because he is pretty much perfect and always right, which isn't usually appealing in a main character and yet he's still a 10/10 character and the blorbo of all time because MXTX is good enough to pull that off

Epilogue: A Long Year

Summary: Hua Cheng and Xie Lian enjoy a well-deserved break from all their remaining troubles.

This chapter runs short enough that normally I'd call it a mini chapter. Regardless, it is the end of the fic, and that does deserve a final illustration. <3

Thanks so much to everyone who read along as I was posting! Even tho I left you on some terrible cliffhangers! So brave! So powerful! Your comments and enthusiasm really helped fuel me through the process. Considering my ADHD ass, it really is a miracle that this got finished at all.

If you were patiently waiting to binge a finished fic, that's also completely valid, and here you go! Godspeed bc its like 400k words.

There will be at least two more full-sized (though still significantly shorter and more concise) fics to come in this fic series as I tie off the loose ends (Shi Wudu and Jun Wu, respectively), but this is also a good comfortable place for me to just stop and take a nice break from it and explore some other fic ideas for a spell. I don't think I'll ever post a fic in progress ever again tbh haha. The fear of falling off the wagon and leaving readers afloat is too much for me. 😂

Lang Ying really got some goddamn nerve releasing a PLAGUE of the desecrated corpses of HIS people onto the citizens of the imperial capital, then turning to Xie Lian and going, "Hm, I guess you're promise to continue bringing rain to Yong'an was a lie, huh?" Like bitch, YOU'RE THE REASON HE PHYSICALLY CANNOT BRING THE RAIN!!!!!

Also, how tf would YOU know whether or not it's still raining in Yong'an? Cause the evil entity that told you to desecrate the corpses of YOUR PEOPLE, including your son, told you that, too? And this is the reliable source???
