DID YOU DO THE THING?!

      Sara didn’t understand what was going on with him. He was looking at her was unusual. She couldn’t put her finger on it. There was something almost like desire for a flicker as her pinky flared to life with a fire that was almost painful but then coursed through her veins with something that licked down her veins. Her brow trickled with confusion which he answered with French— of course. However, when she glanced down, she did see something odd— where their line had usually been stable it flickered to the size of a cord, larger than she had ever seen, but then it flicked back down to a thread. A thread she found familiar.

      “What exactly is your issue this time, Frenchman?” She couldn’t exactly understand why he had just cried out in displeasure, but she figured it had something to do with her current state of arousal and annoyance both in equal amounts. He was cute, but got, he’d never made her heartbeat accurate with his stupid accent.

        “Timelines crossing?” She picked up on him and the importance of the scant English he offered. “So, you’re from my… future?” She frowned puzzled. “But that doesn’t explain why you’re so upset about this.” She tilted her head from one side then the other as the watched him, “Why would you want to see future-me instead of me-me.”

                                 Dreaded questions he knew no time traveler should answer but he couldn't help it, wouldn’t dare lie to his own soulmate ( or anyone for that matter ) so once he got ragged breaths under control a long look was cast around making sure they were far away from the rest of her team.  ❝  Mai oui, of course!  ❞  She should’ve expected the change as soon as her eyes found him and yet it seemed like something he would need to explain. But maybe, all of this was too hard to believe, a relationship like theirs was unusual even for people like them. He couldn’t even stay angry at her these days, instead, with a softness to his voice he continued explaining what little he knew for a fact about them.

                                  ❝  Mademoiselle, your future you ‘as chased me for a long time, our relationship is very different now, mon oisillon.  ❞  The endearment was unnecessary but something the Frenchman added to make it clear just how different things had turned out from where she was in her timeline. The agitation still moved his limbs, made him fidgety as he had spoken with his arms moving in wide gestures. No matter how gentle he could play himself down, the disappointment of seeing her and knowing she wasn’t his Sara still sat deep.

Thank god the other didn’t seem angry that he was late, because it was kind of his thing, speed or not. In all honesty, he was nervous too. Nervous about being on a date for one – it had been awhile, since the coma took nine months away && all of a sudden metahumans were the biggest thing in his life. But he was also nervous because it was a guy, && he hadn’t been out with a guy since college. Thank god Linda was on his side though, even if she didn’t know he was the Flash, she knew he needed a break, && this was that MUCH NEEDED break. 

Barry shook Frankie’s hand firmly, a grin still on his face simply out of giddiness. “If that’s all Linda told you about me then I hope I’m making a little bit better of a first impression.” He joked, laughing && ducking his head. He was planning to be on time, but then a thief had decided to start his heist across town, so he’d made it quick, leaving the criminal tied up for Joe. He could like && call that a case though, it wasn’t like being the Flash was something he would share on a first date ( or ever ). “Not a detective- I’m a CSI! I deal with all of the fingerprinting && DNA testing, all the fun parts really. I’ve always l o v e d science too, so applying that to help people is something I love.” Without even meaning to, the speedster was beginning to ramble, sitting up in his seat, leg bouncing as he did. “My foster dad Joe is the detective, he && I work together. He didn’t really want me to be a cop, but… I don’t know, I’ve ALWAYS wanted to help people, especially now. There’s been a lot of weird stuff happening in the city too, so I’ve got my work cut out for me.” Metahumans were public knowledge now because of Everyman, the shapeshifter, but it wasn’t something he wanted to go around advertising when he was doing his best to put as many of them away as possible. 

“Sorry- I’m rambling.” A laugh passed his lips, looking over at the other man shyly.

                                The handshake lasted longer than usual, something he made sure of seeing as the greeting was already a vital part of even blind dates. So far it went well. Granted Barry had been late and they had been at it for not even two minutes but Frankie’s growing interest burned inside of his chest as he leaned forward, head resting on his hands and with fascination in his eyes he listened to the other one’s rambling. It was rather endearing actually, as much as the Frenchman himself was easily excitable he didn’t tend to just bubble up with information like that not even when directly asked.  ❝  Non non, don’t worry. I ‘ad asked, remember?  ❞  Laughter accompanied his words and woven into the syllables like a waltz was his mirth accompanied by the expectation of wanting to hear more.  ❝  You seem passionate about it, oui? I think that makes you cute no matter ‘ow much you’re rambling.  ❞

notes come softly, like echoes on the wind of a song LONG PAST DUE. at first, he wonders if someone’s chosen lullaby for ringtone TO IGNORE. but linoleum beneath feet seem too bright & & he realizes there is NO MELODY & & the world has b r o k e n around him. squeezing eyes shut, ley lines shudder through sensitive bones / / the dead SCREAM but silence yawns louder / / smoke burns nostrils —

& & then it’s over. ( passing like a heartbeat ).

grocery cart smooth & & cold underneath his hands, jug of milk TOO WHITE against the other items in his cart. he has to heave a relieved sigh & & promises to text lydia later about the episode. ( she’ll know what to do ). either way, he feels cold all over there, anxious to feel the warmth of the sun on his skin & & REMIND HIMSELF OF HUMANITY. of course, that’s when he recognizes the clerk at the other end of conveyer belt & & he forces himself to relax.

“don’t you ever not work?”

                              Customer service grin in place, in an episode of perfect calm the criminal, watched struggles unfold. Swayed still but a moment longer and he would’ve reached out. Stood up and went over so nimble fingers, long and thin could’ve supported the man, instead - a wave, friendly and non-threatening just like everything else about the arsonist and indeed, the man came back. Forced relaxation was met with bubbly excitement, the kind a child had for friends it didn’t saw often enough - as if nothing happened. 

Simon couldn’t help but smile at that. What a thought. A chuckle slipped from his lips as he shook his head. “No, just someone who always ends up coming in on my shift. He’s always got a new set of injuries. He’s— very crude.” The young doctor took a pause, a moment to think before glancing back at the other. “—- I’m sorry, I-I’m talking too much again, aren’t I?”
