tomorrow is ramadan. your eating disorder will not magically disappear in ramadan.

allah will not hate you if you relapse in ramadan. be it that you faint or you binge, if you need to break your fast because of your eating disorder THEN YOU BREAK YOUR FAST.

You are not supposed to fast when you are sick. YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO FAST WHEN YOU ARE SICK. IT IS HARAM TO FAST IF YOU ARE SICK BECAUSE IT BRINGS HARM TO YOUR BODY. If you start feeling horribly sick and you know, you haven’t had sufficient suhoor or iftar for a few days or anything of the sort, it is okay to break your fast and even go to the hospital if you need to.

habaybi that have eating disorders, PLEASE take care of yourself during ramadan. It is a month of cleansing and forgiveness, so forgive yourself if you relapse. You can always redo your fast after ramadan.

okay so like. anon firstly i just wanna say that you are a gem to science. I want to study you. like. pls.

so next point. racism....is tea? faking a nationality....is tea? also as an actual real indian person right here no im not digging out past dirt because lindsey's actions have genuinely hurt me. i literally almost never get proper representation in media— so to see an artist you used to love so much just literally mocking you like that? It is hurtful. The one time you actually get talked about out there and its not even proper representation, its your favorite artist chasing clout. It is mockery in the sense that she thought it was okay, that pretending to be a minority especially back then at like 2013 or something would get her attention. she was out there tweeting that she was an indian and an orphan as if she wanted this weird fucked up sympathy from her fans by being a minority. And no that will never be okay. Ever. Even 20 yrs from now ill be holding lynz way accountable for this.

Okay. Then let’s do something constructive about it.

Note: I personally think looking toward a celebrity / rock star / influencer / fandom BNF for performative allyship is a waste of time. I think there’s a lot of nuance lost in generational and life experience gaps and I’m not going to engage in that conversation.  

What I want to do instead is focus on what I can do for myself and my local community to take active steps in making the alt music scene are more inclusive and less racist space. I’m a big believer in building up and supporting your local music scene as much as possible, so the (totally not comprehensive, but def a starting point) list I’ve curated below will reflect those core values I hold for myself.

BROADLY, QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF:

What POC artists are you listening to? Are you buying their albums? Buying their merch? Requesting their songs at your local radio station? 

YOUR LOCAL MUSIC SCENE:

When shows return post-pandemic - will you go see any local POC artists? 

Are you able to use your contacts to help these artists books shows? 

Maybe request the local music club to book certain bands? Show promoters will listen if there seems to be enough interest for them to make money on ticket sales/door fees. (You can usually google your local music venue + booking to try and find this information)

College music stations - if you’re in a college town - there’s a great opportunity to get involved (esp if you’re a student) with helping curate what music gets put in rotation.

Are you able to host a show? House shows are the ULTIMATE music scene DIY - if you’re in a position to offer up your house/space as a venue for bands to come and play, why not make a point to seek out POC artists and have them be part of the line up?
