Time for more worldbuilding now that i have no projects at hand to work on, hereâs some Iedunnoh versions of the classic fantasy goblin and gnome! Many of what one considers the typical fantasy creatures are found in Iedunnoh, however not quite the same, as i put my own spin on them to make them fit the world better. More information about em below~
Goblins
Gejikiieaâ Viphaegiv ( Large Ears Defiled ) Defiled, Demon Omnivorous Swamp & Marshlands Altheris - Poolbog, Snakefen & Marshentide / Hiremyll - Frey / Tuwok - Largas 40 - 60 years Mating Period : Anytime No notable magic capabilities
Known to be the defiled version of the equally small gnomes, goblins are small demons with large ears, eyes and wrinkly skin. They usually come in the colors green, blue, grey, brown or cream, depending on their genes and environment. Their duller colors help the goblin be camouflaged in the damp swamps they live in, blending in with the muddy ground and plantlife. Even if goblins are equipped to swim, with their webbed paws, they prefer to stay on land and only ever tread in water in attempts to escape or to hunt fish.
Goblins, like other defiled fey, are intelligent creatures. They form small villages on any plot of land out in marshes that they can find, where multiple goblins live and hunt together. Inherited from their old fey ancestry they are mischievous and aggressive against others that arenât goblins. Traps are usually set up by them around their villages to keep people out or for their own amusement, many take great caution when traveling through goblin territories.
Mainly nocturnal, goblins have large eyes to see during the night. Their good vision along with their incredible hearing make them able to sense anyone approaching with ease. Because of their small size and stature they rarely put up a fight, but rather run, which their senses make a viable option thanks to being alerted of predators or danger before itâs too late. Many struggle to approach goblins because of this, but goblins are easily brought to a less cautious and careful state when presented with gifts such as food. Meanwhile it is a common activity to lure and capture goblins, it is illegal to keep and own a goblin because of their sentience.
Gnomes
Siphlaâindv Phif ( Soft Round Fey ) Lesser Fey, Fey Herbivorous Forests Hiremyll - Larma, Starma & Spurn 100 - 150 years Mating Period : N/A Possesses magical capabilities
The smallest of the non insect or plant fey, gnomes are easily identifiable by their rodent like appearance and colorful cloth coats. They make their home in deep forests alongside other, bigger fey, normally seen following elves and nymphs for safety. Meanwhile small in stature they contribute to their forest by spreading seeds and tending to the needs of animals, letting other fey see to the woods protection. As they are not fighters nor aggressive like others of their kin, they are rarely seen by people unless they are specifically looked for.
Thanks to their large hind feet they can leap almost twice their height and quickly escape danger. But when walking normally they are forced to waddle awkwardly because of their strange posture, which is often worsened by the clothes they wear that prevents them to put their front paws to the ground. Their long tails allow them to stay balanced when standing and walking, however. If a gnome were to lose their tail they would have extreme difficulties staying upright, making their tails very precious to them.
When a gnome decides to not follow their duty set forth by the gods of nature, like any other fey, it will become defiled. Defiled gnomes turn into goblins, which are shooed away by the other gnomes for their crimes or inactions. Gnomes have a low tendency rate to become defiled, being the second lowest next to elves. Because of their often kind company and simple work, gnomes rarely have a reason to not follow their duties.
Notes: A fey which abandoned their duty or commits crimes against their gods become âdefiledâ, which is a form of corruption which rids them of their connection to the gods. This causes the fey to become a shell of itself, or something new, these defiled fey are refereed to as demons. These demons are their own species and continue to live despite being defiled. A fey which has become defiled may never be âcuredâ of their corruption.
