She mentions she first felt signs of it ten years ago, and at the time, her doctor said it wasn't anything to worry about.

Which may have been true. Repetitive motion injuries worsen over time. Ten years ago, that tingle could have been something that could be dealt with with rest. But she--like a lot of us, myself included--ended up ignoring it until there was a physical symptom she could not ignore.

This post is a reminder to take breaks, stretch, and if you feel pain from stitching, talk to a medical professional. Get exercises the first time and do them. Follow the instructions. Better to not stitch for a few weeks than to need surgery in a a few years from trying to ignore it.

If you are an artist, your body is one of your tools. But especially if you crochet or knit or hand sew, your body is one of your tools. You have to take care of your tools.

When You Look at Dr. Grace

Grace hunches in and says, "Guess I was bullied a lot growing up, haha-" Carl cuts in. "So was I." Grace: "What? Really?" Carl pops Skittles in his mouth as he replies, "I grew up fat and black, I got my fair share of shit. Sure, it got to me, but I came around to the idea that those teenage dipshits were wrong about me. What's your excuse, man?"

Grace says uncomfortably, "I never- Uh. I, well-" Carl looks very unimpressed and says, "See? You're doing it again. Say what you mean to say." Grace slumps. "I guess I never thought about it that way." Carl: "Yeah. I know. That's why I said it. Get out of your own damn way."

We see the first panel in color: Grace floating outside the Hail Mary, surrounded by the red glow of Astrophage, as Carl says, "And once you do that? Hoo, man. You'll be unstoppable."

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a mission he doesn't remember volunteering for. Alone on a ship scaled far too large for a borrower, he has to try to figure out why he's so far from home, and what he's supposed to do. On top of that, he needs to figure out why this mission is so prepared to have a borrower on the crew--standing at only six inches tall, it's easy to think none of this was meant for him. And yet, everywhere he looks he finds evidence that whoever built this ship built it with both humans and borrowers in mind. An impossible task looms over him. A scientific mystery has somehow sent him hurtling through space, impossibly far from any other human or borrower, and it's on him to surpass an extinction-level threat that doesn't care how big someone is. It will end the world all the same if he doesn't do something about it. But, despite what he thinks, he's not alone.
