The WHA Archive is a project dedicated to finding illustrations, photos, GIFs etc of the art of Witch Hat Atelier and Kitchen of Witch Hat in one place whilst retaining original sources wherever possible. It’s currently an ongoing project to locate and properly document the art produced by Shirahama Kamome and Sato Hiromi for all fans to enjoy!
The archive is contained on a Google Drive. If you are reposting this link please do so with discretion - private sharing is fine, but when posting publicly please avoid places where the link cannot be easily removed (e.g. rebloggable Tumblr posts) or may be seen by Shirahama or Kodansha (e.g. tags on Twitter or Bluesky). This drive will be taken down if it's requested by the copyright holders. Let's avoid that, please!
Disclaimer
The content contained within this Google Drive is the artwork of Shirahama Kamome (Witch Hat Atelier) and Hiromi Sato (Kitchen Of Witch Hat). It is uploaded here for archival and reference purposes only and the uploader holds no ownership or copyright of the artwork. On request from the copyright holder(s) any and all artwork herein will be removed immediately.
Do not reproduce any artwork herein for commercial purposes.
Support the official release of Witch Hat Atelier and Kitchen of Witch Hat through the purchase of monthly and volume releases.
A full list of rules for the archive can be found HERE (this can be accessed any time from the Drive’s root folder) - please read the first sections before using the drive.
Please also check the Index for more information; to see background details (including canon information not yet revealed in the manga’s pages) and sources of where each artwork was originally posted!
On Reuploads
Most images on this blog or in the archive are unedited - provided you do so with respect for the actual copyright holders, reuploads aren't much different to the drive itself.
However, where images contain translations please do not reupload these elsewhere without explicit permission from the archive admin and the translators/typesetters.
We also ask that you do not reupload full pages from the Reproduction Selection in any public space, and that you do not reupload transparent or edited scans if your blog is dedicated to those things (i.e. do not pass this editing off as your own).
This blog
This blog will update on major additions to the archive, new posts, and post occasional interesting information on what has been found whilst locating the original sources of official art!
Current focuses:
Reorganising Index and ensuring all artwork is logged; reorganising file locations for ease of use.
Translation of Reproduction Selection
Official Merchandise - locating product photos and digital samples; logging information
Gaps - filling in gaps in collections (e.g. missing volume covers)
If you have a link to any Witch Hat Atelier art that has not been posted, or know of an artwork that needs sourcing, please get in touch via the Ask or Submit box. If you notice mistakes in any of the information presented or have any images in higher quality, please get in touch also!

Exciting announcement - to be published simultaneously in English and Japanese (19th August), an official guide for Witch Hat Atelier! "Archives of Witch Hat Atelier" will include exclusive illustrations, lore notes on elements from the manga, and even a commentary on chapter 1! Shirahama is reportedly self publishing this and there's currently a preorder discount until the 18th of August.
It can be preordered here, and you can also snag some wallpaper downloads while you're at it.
As the release is a PDF rather than a print copy I will not be mirroring this in the archive until there is no longer an option to purchase it - i.e. I will treat it like a special edition artbook. I'll add the purchase location to the text parts of the archive so it can be located in future.
Just found this page recently, and I can't thank you enough! A beautiful treasure chest <3 Thank you sooo much for this!
A little question...are the Grimoire covers added here? I can't seem to find them. Even from twitter I only managed to find a couple of them.
I've been gathering them! (thank you for the additional links in your other message though - it helps to have more than one place I can grab info like that)
Volume covers and getting them all sorted and reuploaded is a big parent project that the grimoires are lined up in - I'm trying to approach them as consistently as I can and my previous collection was... Messy aha.
would you be okay with the archive one day finding its way onto the internet archive (archive.org)? i really love what you've done w/ the drive and want to make sure it stays as a fixture of shirahama's work!
Yes, I should think so! I don't really know how that process works but it would be a nice peace of mind that if I was ever asked to take anything down, there'd still be something archived out there ♥️

I saw the previous ask and remembered I wanted to ask you about also giving some scans to the archive.
I made a post about the special french event for the release of volume 15 and the grimoire edition of volume 5 and I shared all the scans (and more) I've made of what we got here: https://www.tumblr.com/hrshlandmanhuadonghua/816433139525238784 .
HOWEVER, the quality of the scans are Not Great (imo), the scanner was also weird and didn't really scanned straight (I had to scan the entire space then resize/rotate the pictures myself) and since it was a game thing, there's my answers on it and I don't really have the time/motivation/knowledge to clean those up (but I did remove my personal information from the diploma). I can, however, provide a translation of the French text.
So yeah, in case you find it interesting enough. I can also put them on google drive so it's easier for you to move around.
Oh my gosh!! I do find that very interesting!! I've got no way to access this material myself, and quality is something I'd value lower than just having a copy at all aha!
I'd love to use these - I can have a bash at removing answers myself so don't worry about that :)
If you'd be willing to provide a translation that would be fantastic, but no stress on that ♥
Hello, where can we submit material to the archive? I’ve scanned some art from the grimoire edition, pieces where we only had low quality images available.
Hi there - thank you so much, that would be fantastic to have! If you just let me know which grimoire it is and upload them somewhere I can download them from (like google drive) and pop me a link in DMs or messages, I can get them up in the right place and add you to the credit list for your assistance :D
If you'd be able to number the files in the order they appear in the grimoire (skipping any page numbers not scanned, if there are any) this would also be a big help ♥
I'll be at a convention this weekend (going to be Boiling in London in my Olruggio cosplay, aha) so apologies if I'm slow to respond aha. But this is really awesome of you!
i wanted to say thank you so much for building/maintaining the archive!!! it’s soo helpful and i recommend it to friends all the time for finding wha art:) and it’s always a treat to tell new fans there’s a big google drive of shirahama’s art haha they get so excited
!! That makes me so happy! I started this project to give myself an excuse to organise everything I'd saved so I could find it easier aha, so helping other people too is great.
I'm a little behind on getting grimoire volumes but I do know the majority of the art (though not all!) were also published in previous bonus artbooks. The above came out with the volume 2 limited edition originally!

Hi, the archive has a spreadsheet about translations for the Atelier of Witch Hat Reproduction Selection book. Have these been uploaded? I couldn't find them in the drive. Thank you!
Hi! I've got a few pages that have been typeset that need uploading it seems! Unfortunately it was one of the projects I was struggling to manage so we didn't get that far aha.
Well, I suppose I'm ordering myself a birthday present seven months in advance.
The Reproduction Selection is back in another limited print run (2500). Orders to be confirmed after 1000 copies with pre-orders until 30th June (orders cannot be cancelled after this time). It's a pricey one so consider carefully!
Thank you so much for sharing Shirahama's live blog! (And everything else, I live this blog!)
I am not fluent, but I know a bit of Japanese. Still going through the list, but I think for tweet #2 三角鹿 refers to a "three-antler deer"? 角 can mean angle (like for triangle), but it can also mean horn/antler :> It's hard to tell if this is correct because it's a female 😅
For tweet #4 I think it refers to the layout of the panels in the manga. I googled it a bit and found out that page 13 of chapter 1 was apparently widely discussed online for its original layout, like, the way the panels flow as Coco goes down the stairs.
Okay! I'm done reading the list. Thank you so much again for putting this together! I just have a few more tiny notes :>
#10 the names are correct!
#11 The tweet reads more to me like "Witch/ Pointy hat is here" Same wording as the Sagipen tweet
#12 No real notes just found the wording really cute. Like, not just little Coco but "tiiiny little Coco-chan is so cuuute~!"
#14 She called the sheep "erimaki hitsuji" where "erimaki" is a scarf. I just learned the word can also be used for frill-necked lizards, ruffed lemurs, and ruffs (birds). So the translation might be something like a frilled or a ruffed sheep :>
Thank you so so so much for these notes! I'll add these to the post ♥
I think you might be right about the deer - I was wondering why there was a clarification that the deer was female, but if the name references horns that it doesn't have...!

Lots of very beautiful anime visuals - promotional and production related - have been shared on twitter. But I'm in a bit of a bind for what to do with them!
Do they belong in the archive? Absolutely. Accreditation and indexing will be different to the illustrations Shirahama posts, but they're part of the art of Witch Hat Atelier!
Is that much more risky than the Archive's current content? Very much so. Even the manga cover designs as a bit dicey when it comes to copyright, so adding these visuals to the same space could risk the whole thing getting a takedown request (which I would comply with).
Does anyone have any thoughts about this? I could simply mirror them on this blog - it's not ideal though. Or could have a separate location for anime related images?

Spoilers below the cut for Episode 1 of Witch Hat Atelier!
[Original Tweet]
ENG: The crouching animation is so good... The way the dress spreads out in the water and the hand gestures are just insanely great...! As a gesture fetishist, I end up grinning like an idiot whenever I see wonderful everyday acting...
ENG: Pointy deer* (female) and the bride butterfly~! The animals are so full of life, it's the best of the best...! The animals in the pointy world are a little different from real-world animals in various ways. Be sure to pay attention and check them out!
NB: These two animals are with Coco at the spring - the deer-like animal she speaks to, and the glowing butterfly-like creature.
TN (paraphrased from chocomichi): *The proper noun for the deer here might be "three-antler deer". 角 can mean angle (like for triangle), but it can also mean horn/antler :> It's hard to tell if this is correct because it's a female. (wha-archive: this would make the clarification that the deer is female make more sense!)
3. [Original Tweet]
ENG: The scenery is beautiful... The weeds growing over the old stone walls and the undulating terrain of the hills are so nice...! A background you want to walk into is a good background! The village where Coco and the others live is in a hilly area, so there isn't much flat land, huh
ENG: It's a Pegasus carriage~! The exciting yet gentle atmosphere of the song is wonderful! The flute sound is so cute...! The staircase scene that caught your attention in the original episode 1 has been arranged into a layout without any awkwardness, which is great...
TN (wha-archive): ENG machine translation named the carriage "feather carriage", this has been updated to reflect the naming in the dub.
TN (from chocomichi): I think [this] refers to the layout of the panels in the manga. I googled it a bit and found out that page 13 of chapter 1 was apparently widely discussed online for its original layout, like, the way the panels flow as Coco goes down the stairs.
5. [Original Tweet]
ENG: Coco's house is designed as an easy-to-understand tailor shop, but it's also a second-hand cloth dealer that takes in items unwanted by traveling merchants who cross the mountains, and a used clothing shop where travelers who have crossed the mountains can buy clean clothes to enter the town
NB: This is information we didn't know from the manga!
6. [Original Tweet]
ENG: I really love this series of hand gestures from here on...! Hands of people who work are truly wonderful, right? I just want to keep watching them
NB: There are a series of very detailed movements from Coco here as she finds and prepares Qifrey's fabric, so this most likely is referencing that sequence here (please let me know if there's evidence to the contrary in the original Japanese).
7. [Original Tweet]
ENG: Qifrey's soft smile is so nice...! His voice is gentle and wonderful too... When you add the colors and voice, it really gives off that otherworldly vibe of a mage, doesn't it? Like, in a good way, he doesn't quite blend into the village's everyday scenery or life...
NB: I think this reaction to the way he speaks as he praises Coco's work as an artisan.
8. [Original Tweet]
ENG: I love the pop-up book-like expressions! And the colors during the flashbacks to the festival are just so beautiful...! It really makes me feel like I can imagine how exhilarating the encounter with magic must have been for Coco
NB: Referring to Coco's walk home from the festival and the glowing path fading...
10. [Original Tweet]
ENG: The village headman's son, Tanaru (black hair) and Kamura (blond hair), are the village's mischievous rascals and Coco's peers and classmates. Coco and the other village children are learning reading, writing, and basic arithmetic at the village headman's house from Tanaru's mother.
NB: New information about these characters! The anime is definitely showing us more about Coco's life before she became a witch - a very clever change. (Tanaru and Kamura are the machine translated proper nouns)
11. [Original Tweet]
ENG (from chocomichi): Pointy hat/witch is here
JPN: とんがり帽子来た
12. [Original Tweet]
ENG (emphasis from chocomichi): Tiiiiny little Coco-chan is so cuuuute~!
JPN: 小っちゃなココちゃんかわいいよ〜!
NB: Only 3 apples tall.
13. [Original Tweet]
ENG: If someone tells you not to look, well, of course you end up wanting to look, right?
JPN: 見ちゃダメって言われたらね そりゃ見たくなっちゃうよね
NB: This is why I have to ban myself from social media when I'm avoiding spoilers myself, aha.
14. [Original Tweet]
ENG: A delicious-looking collar roll sheep** stew and bread~! The scenes with Coco and her mom that have been added from the original, I love them all...
TN (from chocomichi): **She called the sheep "erimaki hitsuji" where "erimaki" is a scarf. I just learned the word can also be used for frill-necked lizards, ruffed lemurs, and ruffs (birds). So the translation might be something like a frilled or a ruffed sheep :>
15. [Original Tweet]
ENG: Sajipen has arrived
JPN: サジペン来た
TN: From Anonymous - this is referencing a particular type of pen nib that's popular with manga artists for particular line types. With guidance from the anon I looked into it - it seems to be very beginner friendly since its line width is consistent (rather than varying by pressure, which is useful for more dynamic line width).
16. [Original Tweet]
ENG: In this world, papermaking is thriving. Nine times out of ten, it's the fault of the mages
JPN: この世界では製紙が盛ん。十中八九魔法使いのせい
NB: Given Coco is using a lot of paper in this scene, I wonder if paper is especially accessible in the world at large compared to settings with similar technology? Or if technology/magic has accelerated in this particular field because of the demand? We take it for granted in our modern world but it's a laborious process!
17. [Original Tweet]
ENG: Pounding heart...
JPN: ドキドキ…
18. [Original Tweet]
ENG: It's magic, it's magic, it's real magic~! Super excited Coco-chan is so cute
JPN: 魔法だ魔法だ本物の魔法だ〜!大興奮のココちゃん可愛い
19. [Original Tweet]
ENG: The music that gradually builds up is so cool...!
JPN: じわじわ盛り上がる音楽が格好いい…!
NB: You may have noticed, but this episode was very reserved with its use of music: it only starts when new magic enters Coco's life! There's already recurring themes/motifs in the music so lots of thought has been put into its composition and placement.
20. [Original Tweet]
ENG: Coco-chan...! That's no good...!
JPN: ココちゃん…!それはダメだ…!
NB: Coco-chan! That's no good!
21. [Original Tweet]
ENG: Qifrey is such a fun person to watch with this gap between kindness and intensity, right?
JPN: キーフリーはこの優しさと激しさのギャップが描いていて楽しい人ですね
22. [Original Tweet]
ENG: Terrifying but beautiful... aah...
JPN: 恐ろしいけど美しくて…あああ…
23. [Original Tweet]
ENG: The contrast and the wavering lines are just too beautiful. Even though it's a scary scene, I can't look away... Uwaaaaaah~~~~
JPN: コントラストと線の揺らぎが美しすぎる 怖いシーンなのに目が離せなくて…うわあああ〜〜〜
24. [Original Tweet]
ENG: The dawn of despair and hope, the first page of a book, the beginning of an adventure... the greatest prologue...!
JPN: 絶望と希望の朝焼け、本の1ページ目、冒険のはじまり……最高のプロローグだ…!
25. [Original Tweet]
ENG: It was over in the blink of an eye—it was amazing...! Thanks to readers all over the world, it became an anime! Yay! Every Monday at 11 PM, Coco-chan's adventure begins right here. Looking forward to your support from now on...! And get this, you can watch episode 2 on Netflix and Abema too... You can even see the OP and ED on streaming! Amazing! Take care!
