Now as an adult working in security I get SO MANY folks- upper-middle aged mostly- coming to me to 'rat out' people they think are faking it.

I was once sent into a bathroom because a client demanded that the "fucker won't get out, so go drag them out"- I was NEVER going to do that, so I did a wellness check instead. You know who it was? A person recently released from the hospital after a car accident. They had a hole in their skull and major hearing loss. They couldn't answer the owner because they couldn't HEAR the owner.

Another time about a homeless man who got around town by kicking the ground from his wheelchair. "You know he doesn't actually need that thing, his legs work fine, it's just for pity points"- Oh, so he's not paralyzed, his wheelchair is performative? Funny story Dale, I actually know that guy, he was backed over by a truck and has chronic pain from his shattered pelvis. But sure, let's make him stand up and walk everywhere so nobody feels too bad for him and tries to help him or something.

Why is it "unfortunate"`? The number of BBC fics has no influence whatsoever on the number of ACD fics. There's not a finite number of Johnlock fic slots, and by reducing the number of BBC fics you can increase the number of ACD ones. Do you mean those authors should write ACD fics (for you?) instead of the BBC fics they are inspired to write (for themselves)? Even though they haven't read the books or watched any of the ACD adaptations? Even though they don't have the linguistic basis to produce "flowery language and old english"? (Hint: Old English is another language entirely.)

Again, why is it unfortunate? Are all 67,000 BBC Johnlock fics so bad? (Spoiler: they are not.) Even if they were, they would deserve to be posted as much as any other fic.

Unless you mean you have a hard time finding ACD Johnlock fics amongst all the BBC ones but that's what the tag filter function is for (which someone in the comments already pointed out).

I think perhaps what is meant was simply an expression of a desire for more ACD Holmes/Watson fics. But there is no need to diss BBC Johnlock fics as part of that.

It's not unfortunate that people write what they want. It is not unfortunate that BBC fics are abundant. It is unfortunate that there is a lack of ACD fics.

The thing with Fandom discourse like this is that it's easy to get misconstrued and defensive. Fandom and Fanfiction are meant to be enjoyed by both the creators and other people.

We have all have had that moment where we really would just like to find a very specific fic or fic trope. Just because we prefer one thing over another doesn't mean the other thing is any less valid.

Like with your comment about Stucky. YES it's good they have plenty of fics to choose from, but that does not negate that not everyone prefers that ship. It doesn't make either ship any less valid, just that it's not everyone's preferred preference.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and own values. That's what makes Fandom so great! And honestly, what you said came off as more passive-aggressive than what OP posted.

Nothing in the post dissed BBC's sherlock. That's what got my friend into Sherlock. I, however, am the one that introduced them to ACD since I am an English Literature nerd and they wanted to know what i was rambling about.
