My one and only happy memory from my childhood is of staying out late with some kids I didn't know and never saw again after that evening. I must've been 10 or younger, but it was the only time my family let me stay out late and play, like actually have fun and be a kid. We were pretending to be pirates and the swings on the playground were our boats and ships and, as the sun was setting, the feeling of sailing off into the night on the darker and darker sea was so vivid.
