dear parents,
take children’s panic attacks seriously. they aren’t “fake”, they aren’t “forced”, they aren’t “ridiculous” or whatever the hell you try to say. kids feel intense emotions too. stop invalidating them
My parents were the source of said panic attacks. They would abuse me and then mock my reactions to the abuse. Sick, twisted and beyond the pale. They took nothing I did or said seriously unless they decided *I* was being abusive toward them. All of my reactions to their abuse were punished and pushed through their distorted lens. I was raised in insanity.
a lot of people are under the impression that mental hospitals have "modernized" and no longer use violent or neglectful tactics. others are aware it still occurs, but think it must have been justified, if a helping professional did it.
but if a middle schooler is freaking out in public because someone was refusing to let her call her father for help, should the response should be restraining the child and breaking her wrist in the process?
if a teenager is sobbing hysterically in an alley, should they be publicly shamed? should anyone who attempts to help them be physically prevented from doing so?
if a severely ill adult needs emergency medical care, should they be left in a room alone for hours on end and denied care for days?
no?? then why is it okay in a psych ward? every time you justify abuse and neglect of patients by clinicians under the pretext of it being "for their own good", this is what you are endorsing. THIS is what they use that rational to do. these are all real things i've experienced (either first or second hand), and it's only one example from each ward.
this happens all the time. these sorts of things are being done to people in psych wards right now. no matter when you're reading this, it's happening, now. it's been happening for centuries. stop excusing it.
dear fellow autistic people: if you consistently come out of doctor’s appointments feeling emotionally (and sometimes physically) hurt, but you feel bad for feeling hurt because “the doctors were being nice”, the doctors were not being nice.
this is something I had to learn the hard way. doctors often dress up their words all pretty so you can’t sue them. I, for a long time, mistook this as genuine kindness. It’s not. It’s just being professional. even if they didn’t call you a slur or anything that doesn’t mean they weren’t ignoring your needs.
trust what your body and emotions tell you. if you are feeling hurt, there is a reason, and you need to listen to it. please listen to it.
“When you're privileged you have just a little more than the lower class, the bossman allows you to do a little more, that's all. So you don't see yourself as oppressed as the next brother or sister; you have a little more leeway. You are permitted to have a few more luxuries.
In that case you try to assimilate, you try to be like the boss. But with this kind of mentality there's no way possible that you can make a revolution.
An effective revolution depends upon the lower-class people in this country." - Lessons from the Damned

yall are so fucking weird about gnc people. a woman wears a suit and she's "conforming to the patriarchy". a man wears a skirt and he's Secretly A Trans Egg. have you considered It's Fabric
Y'all understand that it is a patient's right to refuse treatment, yes? You understand that this extends to psychiatric treatment? That there is something deeply troubling about immediately dismissing a patient exercising their right to refusal as Symptoms™? It's very important to me that you understand this.
I feel like kids would be less "loud/annoying/tantrum prone/whatever the complaint about them is this week" if they weren't forced to live in a world that doesn't treat them like human beings and constantly forced to obey the whims of other people with no consideration for their own thoughts and emotions. And if they weren't actively conscious of this. Blaming kids for occasionally breaking down over their treatment is like blaming women for yelling at their abusive husbands or crying about the sexism inherent in society. It's "the women's disease/hysteria" but directed at children instead of women.
Even if they have genuinely loving families that don't neglect them, which is rare, children are still put under constant abuse from every other aspect of their life. They're living on ultra-mega-hard-mode. Emotions are understandable.
I also completely understand people who can't be around loud children, or who hate it when a kid breaks down crying or screaming in a store or a restaurant. I hate it when a kid breaks down crying or screaming in a restaurant or store. Like, that's not an unreasonable feeling to have when someone is making an uncomfortable amount of noise. I get it. You don't want that kid to be crying or screaming any more than they want to be doing it.
These kids didn't ask to be forced to sit in a fancy restaurant in uncomfortable clothes around people they don't like eating disgusting food for hours. Those kids didn't ask to be hauled around a supermarket looking at things they're not allowed to have. That kid is crying because they're in a situation they don't want to be in, and they probably didn't have any say over how they got there. They've been forced into Situations for probably their entire lives, and sometimes they snap and have breakdowns. Breaking down after the level of constant psychological abuse inherent in modern childhood would be considered normal and understandable for any other age group, but when children do it it's considered irrational and bothersome and annoying. I get that empathy and compassion are hard, we're all suffering, but maybe for once try to have some instead of just writing the suffering of children off as too annoying to deal with.
“psych ward patients aren’t prisoners! don’t let them treat you like one!!”
quick, define incarceration for me
It feels like the vast majority of people I meet are unable to conceptualize any struggle/"abnormal" character trait without medicalizing and pathologizing it.
At this stage in my life, it's completely alien to me, and it makes me deeply sad. The worst part is that there's rarely any malicious intent behind it. They simply don't realize how harmful the rhetoric they're feeding into is. These are people who genuinely suffer, but are so unwilling to accept that their suffering isn't a random fluke of their biology—it's a product of the world we live in, which is governed by cruel and inhumane norms.
I don't blame them. Capitalism is so soul-crushing that it's easier to say "maybe I'm the problem." I can understand not wanting to look the reality of this world in the eyes.
But it's hard to imagine genuinely being friends with someone who's fully bought into the propoganda that any deviation from the norm is a sign of inherent brokenness. Even if they don't mean any harm.
And the vast, vast majority of people believe this.
It really makes me feel like there's no place for me.

Seeing people I know and like using AI is making me understand the protagonists of those old time sci fi dystopia's.
"Oh I don't normally use AI, I just wanted it to plan my trip"
You lived on this planet for decades, you know what you like, there are hundreds of websites where you can type into any search engine " things to do in [area]" and have at least a hundred different options.
"Oh I only use it so I can figure out what to make during the week with what I have"
The most popular website as you type in "recipes" into google have sections where you click dinner- quick and easy and those usually rely on staples + 1 or 2 items. I found 30 recipes on chicken alone.
"I had a writing idea, so I typed a few sentences into Chat GPT and I was able to write 20 pages with it."
Youdidn'twriteit.Youdidn'twriteit.youdidn'twriteit.youdidn'twriteit.YOUDIDN'TWRITEIT.YOUDIDN'TWRITEIT.YOUDIDN'TWRITEIT.
I don't want to buy mass-produced garbage from a big box store so I go to etsy but half of etsy is now dropshipped mass-produced garbage or AI slop so I go to the local arts and crafts street market but a ton of those booths are also selling the same generic plastic objects or identical stickers or 3D printed dragons so WHERE do I buy real trinkets and art from sincere freaks
You cite food, shelter, and medical appointments as evidence of "good parenting".
In any functional society, these are not "extra credits"; they are the baseline legal requirements of a guardian.
Providing calories and a roof does not grant a license for physical and mental attacks, nor does it buy immunity from the consequences of those attacks.

i dont think any mental disorder categories are 'real' but the one that offends me the most is PDs. what do you mean someones personality is disordered. what do you mean you can just 'tell' in the first five minutes if a person has this. why are most of the people diagnosed with B/PD AFAB. what's that about

"what if someone regrets transitioning" if you are 18 or over in free country usa you can walk into any tattoo parlor and ask for a tattoo that will be on your body forever and ever and ever and they will give it to you with the understanding that if you dont like the result or you regret it later that's your fucking problem and not theirs
The worst punishment for my narc mom is that she can’t hide the fact that her daughter doesn’t speak to her lmfao. I don’t even have to do or say anything to anyone. The fact that her daughter is never at any events makes it so hard for her to keep up the facade. It also doesn’t help that her main identity in life is being a stahm so it’s not like she can lean into any other accomplishments. It’s gotten to the point where she tries to avoid social events cause she doesn’t want to get questions about her daughter. I know it eat her up inside cause all they care about is social recognition. A narc will neglect their kids and choose the validation of strangers over family. Well then go ask your friends to drive you to your doctors appointment then.
