Frazer Hines:
I think it would mean a lot to Kate Stewart to meet the Doctor who ultimately started her father's UNIT journey. Because of Timey Wimey stuff she can't tell him who she is of course, but she can still show some thanks.
Bonus:
I like to imagine since Donna works for UNIT now, she likes to ask Kate along for lunch occasionally. And I also think 14 wouldn't hear the END of it once she finds out about Jamie.
I do wonder, sometimes, why anyone would assume the Classic Doctors are in any way boring. I mean, take a look at the first three. Behind the scenes they were:
a foul-mouthed former gang member and accomplished flyweight boxer.
an expert swordsman and seemingly unstoppable sex machine.
A MOTHERFUCKING SECRET AGENT WITH A COBRA TATTOO.
Let’s also add the Classic Doctors have this on their side:
* Never allowed a crippling disease to get the better of him, and even when he was suffering quite badly, was sharp enough to tell when some people wanted to kick him out of WHO (The Celestial Toymaker) and out-maneuvered them.
* Saw his passenger ship sunk by Nazis before he had finished growing, and instead of taking a traumatic accounting of the memory, enlisted in the Navy and manned a gunboat.
* Dealt with more crushing personal blows from childhood to his youth than most people will see in their entire lifetimes; remained protective of the weak and helpless, and remained unbelievably generous to friends and family throughout his life.
None of these men were perfect, but they were all admirable and many, many people looked upon them with respect and affection.
Second secret family, ma'am. Second. Secret. Family.

I know other people (and hell, myself) have remarked upon how many signifiers of "The Doctor" were taken from Fifteen, but god. All the things he didn't get. Getting to wear the previous Doctor's clothing/full outfit (Thirteen's got wiped away in an instant, then he only got to wear HALF of Fourteen's), a lack of a proper regeneration episode (no fumbling/healing/half-memoried saving the world that really serves to transition/endear you to the new doctor/show that they can solve problems even when at their weakest/most hampered), no TARDIS of his own (Fourteen got the makeover, not Fifteen), no single identifying Doctor outfit of his own (and on that note, no wardrobe-choosing-scene transitioning him from the last Doctor to the current Doctor), no fighting the Daleks/Cybermen/Master, no companion-lite episode to balance out the doctor lite one...no Doctor needs *all* of these, I could have even gotten behind one or two of them (hell, other Doctors have gotten the same), but the fact that he got NONE of these? I don't want to say that it feels disrespectful, but it feels fucking disrespectful.
A demon that kills people and leaves a funko pop of them in their place.
Sad 15's era flopped this hard, but I'll always laugh at that stupid Beatles song.
I've got a dog, he's called Fred.
My dog is alive, he's not dead.
When doctor who comes back it will be nununuwho
will say though, difference between this wilderness years is that the show is in a terrible place for expanded media if you want to like, push forward with the story. back in 1989 it ended in a spot where you could go on writing new 7th doctor stories but like. where the fuck do you go from the reality war ending
Well that's kind of what NUwho did after the movie, right? We never saw 8's adventures and only saw his reincarnation years later in a short. We didn't see the time war happening on screen either!
There's so much you can write after this to brush it off in classic doctor who fashion. You could even pull off an off-hand joke like
"but Doctor, I think I saw Rose Tyler!"
"Hmm yes so I've been told, very strange, oh look here!"
Or
"Weren't you a blonde woman the last time we saw you?"
"Many such cases, I'm afraid"

Joking aside, I hope the bbc takes this as a lesson that relying on nostalgia all the time isn’t a good thing and they actually start to give new people a chance to tell fresh stories.
there is something so perfect. so emblematic of the pop culture landscape we live in. that for the next however long, the canonical ending of doctor who is that the doctor turns into billie piper for absolutely no fucking reason
the fact that the same man that brought the show back from the dead has also now killed it is absolutely frying me
hey do you remember that really embarrassing “rebranding” of doctor who where they split off the new new doctor who from new doctor who (2005-2022), intending it to be a whole new era of doctor who?
people are going to look back on this and ask, why were there only 21 episodes before an indefinite hiatus?
and we’ll know. we’ll know.
my feeling with regards to the billie piper cliffhanger was like 'well it's stupid but i suppose if this is what it takes to secure the show's ongoing existence it will be worth it'. consequently i now feel comfortable saying: that was simply fucking stupid wasn't it

Seven's speech to Ace that became iconic for its sendoff to Classic Who was so beautifully written and so full of wonder, "worlds out there where the sky is burning, where the sea's asleep and the rivers dream. people made of smoke and cities made of song," is the kind of Weird Shit that Classic Who was built on. It evoked curiosity, creativity, and originality. It made the show feel like it still had stories to tell, that characters still had lives to live. Come on Ace, we've got work to do.
Meanwhile, 15 regenerating into Billie Piper, aka the first black Doctor's exit overshadowed by a overhyped white companion from 20 fucking years ago that the showrunner refuses to get over, is right from the Disney Star Wars playbook of key-jangly nostalgia-bait shit. RTD is so obviously out of ideas that he'll shrink the universe down to revolve around a handful of characters because he thinks the audience is too stupid to move on. What sad fucking ending to this era.
Couldn’t agree more. Love the way you worded this op!
he hadn't even written a script for the special.
