ok im going to bed it's been an honour posting with you all tonight 🫡
if we really are going into crazy weird publications wilderness years 2.0. well i'm no professional writer but does anyone feel like canonising the eggling jamie cinematic universe
anyways, I'm still so angry over that Deadline article about Disney nuking Ncuti Gatwa's era of Doctor Who because of "woke" (not even kidding), because they received "overwhelming" feedback that the show was "too woke" for international audiences. It will never not piss me the fuck off how woke was/is literally aave for being politically aware that's been so co-opted by white establishment conservatives that this bastardised co-opted colonised concept of "woke" is now weaponised against Black people, people of colour and other marginalised people to justify casting us down and out. A literal fuckinf alien was played by a Black gay actor and old white people lost their shit and now a 60 yr old show is basically dead because some white people hated they weren't being directly pandered to. I'm never not gonna be pissed the fuck OFF
Hey, people in the comments who said I was wrong about the show being dead because I could see the writing on the wall months ago....well, now there's the official announcement. I really hope that no one ever forgets that Doctor Who was cancelled because of anti-Blackness, racism, and corporate greed.
anyway we're all watching ark the animated series together after this right. right. if you guys like main characters actually from all sorts of times and places & different languages being spoken on screen & time travel & scifi-fantasy & weird anti-war/anti-capitalist messaging & jacobite characters called jamie & lesbians & found family & also dinosaurs then you would love ark the animated series i promise. david tennant is even there

atp i think my dr who wishlist is:
- trans presence not just on screen but behind the camera and especially in the writers' room. so much of thirteen's gender stuff on screen actively gave me the ick & i think that could be solved by getting a little nonbinary with it
- let the show be really properly global. yeah yeah it's a british treasure. whatever. i don't care. this show is so unique in being able to do anything and go everywhere and ALSO having such a global audience. acting like it's so universal in its love for humanity and then barely acknowledging the existence of most of the planet can only work for so long
- if the budget is going to be big then at LEAST blow it all on practical effects. this is something i do have to praise the rtd2 team for tbf
- companions that aren't from contemporary britain. please. i think this kind of speaks to point 2 again but it just feels like the bare minimum
- longer seasons. enough said.
- you know what i just keep coming back to point 2 here. maybe it's because i got into doctor who around series 7-8, when the fanbase felt SO global, when they had the actors and the creators going on world tours to promote it, when some of the most iconic fanart-turned-official-art was done by a chinese-american artist. the show felt..... big. not in the sense that it's audience was big, but that its scope could keep on growing, that it had room for everyone. the most perfect version of doctor who that lives in my mind belongs to everyone, not just one country or one type of person. it should have a little bit of us all in it. that's where the magic is.
inspired by this post by @the-macra:
I’m sad about Doctor Who but it will be back. It is in the best way possible the cockroach of British television, it will never truly die
There’s some sort of irony in the fact that the people who successfully revived Doctor Who in 2005 have also ended up being the ones to make its future uncertain all over again

i'm so glad i'm here to experience wilderness years 2.0 with you all
Do you reckon Christopher Eccleston payed an Etsy witch🤔
Joking aside, I hope the bbc takes this as a lesson that relying on nostalgia all the time isn’t a good thing and they actually start to give new people a chance to tell fresh stories.
Now that RTD is gone I think Ncuti should get a do over season
the whole dash is posting doctor in distress i'm glad we have one joke
