christmas is in 3 days what the fuck? what the fuck?? what the fuck??????????????
Because treating people fairly often means treating them differently.
This is something that I teach my students during the first week of school and they understand it. Eight year olds can understand this and all it costs is a box of band-aids.
I have each students pretend they got hurt and need a band-aid. Children love band-aids. I ask the first one where they are hurt. If he says his finger, I put the band-aid on his finger. Then I ask the second one where they are hurt. No matter what that child says, I put the band-aid on their finger exactly like the first child. I keep doing that through the whole class. No matter where they say their pretend injury is, I do the same thing I did with the first one.
After they all have band-aids in the same spot, I ask if that actually helped any of them other than the first child. I say, “Well, I helped all of you the same! You all have one band-aid!” And they’ll try to get me to understand that they were hurt somewhere else. I act like I’m just now understanding it. Then I explain, “There might be moments this year where some of you get different things because you need them differently, just like you needed a band-aid in a different spot.”
If at any time any of my students ask why one student has a different assignment, or gets taken out of the class for a subject, or gets another teacher to come in and help them throughout the year, I remind my students of the band-aids they got at the start of the school year and they stop complaining. That’s why eight year olds can understand equity.
I remember reading somewhere once “we should be speaking of equity instead of equality” and that is a principle that applies here me thinks
HAPPY INDIGENOUS PEOPLE’S DAY!!!!
Repeat after me: you are not obliged to love your family. You are not. If they don’t have respect for you, if they make you feel inferior, if they bully you, ignore you, abuse you in any way: you are not a bad person for not loving them, or not wanting to stay around. You dont have to do any of those things. You can go and build a family with the people who truly love you and respect you. Okay? Stay safe, my darlings.

remember when we were kids and we would write “new years revolution” by mistake maybe this year it shouldn’t be a mistake
someone: They/them as a singular pronoun just isn’t grammatically correct. same person: but to each their own me:
can I have this on a t-shirt
Do you ever start to like think or miss an ex best friend and then you’re like “yikes, let’s not” because they fucked you over and emotionally damaged you in some way cause same
“Hey guess what”
“No you have to guess”
Flush them all
THIS!
This is the election that counts. Start educating yourself now on who will be campaigning to be your congresspeople/governor/etc.
Register to vote NOW. Don’t wait. You can do it any time.
This is the fight we need to win. VOTE VOTE VOTE
Also…reminder to pay attention to all local elections and VOTE. These elected officials are the people most likely to directly impact your life in the short term.
This has to start now. Right now.
Get your birth certificates. There may be a fee or long wait times. Make sure you get a certified copy.
Make sure you have ID. Dig into your state’s laws and the whole Real ID thing, because (and sorry I can’t research this now, but pneumonia) I believe there are certain states whose driver’s licenses don’t qualify for Real ID.
Make sure you’re registered to vote. Google it. Follow the instructions for your state.
Know where your local polling place is or find out if you can vote by mail.
Vote in ALL your upcoming elections. Yes, that means the little ones for city council or dog catcher or whatever. Vote those racist, homophobic, bigots out at every level.
They’re like weeds. You can pull up every visible bit, but if you leave one tiny segment of root, they’ll just come back.
To quote Mira Grant, rise up while you can. Because the Republicans are way the hell worse than zombies.
Damn skippy! My mantra all year has been “Come on, 2018…”

google just made me so emo
oh my god I can’t stop crying
From a strictly marketing standpoint. This is the best ad of all time. Like…well fucking done Google.
I’m not crying you’re crying
I’ll just leave this here
You can’t be serious… that shit is soooooo unsafe for the patient and taxing on nurse 😩
As a nursing major this hurts me. It’s already hard enough taking care of someone who cannot take care of themselves but NOW we don’t have the materials needed to administer care. This pisses me off 😒
Man what the fuck
He’s telling the truth, I currently work at a hospital and there is a nationwide shortage of IV fluid bags. So bad that they’re referring to alternative methods like medications that can be administered orally or like the post above. Smh
Not to mention the shortage of antibiotics
WTF??
Some 40% of drugs and supplies used in the US were manufactured in PR. Drug shortages were predicted after the hurricane and now they are starting to happen. Since PR doesn’t seem to be considered to be part of the US by this administration, help to fix it has been short and late in coming, which means that drug shortages will only get worse.
Are we great yet?
in the children’s hospital i was rotating at we weren’t changing central line tubing (lines that go.. directly to your heart, as in, not something you want infected) for six days instead of 3 due to shortages
what the fuck
this is sort of horrifying
More than half of my clients have had to have their entire medication regimens reworked. Medication regimens that they had been stable and supported on for months or years. Medication regimens that had helped them steadily improve and progress in their lives had to be thrown out the window and completely started over by trial and error again because their medications are no longer available.
People are dying in Puerto Rico and people are going to die on the continental US as well.
Merck’s main manufacturing facility is in PR, if you want a name.
The FDA actually put out a press release on this today. Apparently it’s not just the IV bags, but the fluids as well that are in short supply. There’s a (worryingly long) list of drugs and related paraphenelia experiencing shortages [here].
Press release was 1/5/2018

I saw this tweet and really needed to share it.
No offense to Oprah, but people work their entire lives to build a resume and set of skills in public service. Billionaire celebrities, no matter how much i like them, shouldn’t get to leap over all that effort and experience. It’s a hard job, the hardest job in the world if you’re doing it right, it requires experience.
Pure creativeness and absolutely hilarious.
I’m fucking WHeEzing okayyyyyyyy
